Coffee and Rugby
George Gregan - How a rugby star swapped sport for coffee shops

Good luck to him. As he says, you can only trade on your name for so long before you need to show you are worth the money. Australia is one market Starbucks couldn't crack because the independent coffee shop culture was already too strong. Seems a bit more interesting than a Nando's franchise.
Coffee is one of Kobus Wiese's business interests too:

Matt Stevens and Lee Mears have Jika Jika Coffee, although they did close one of their shops in Bath. Their website says they have one left in the city and another in London.

Chris Robshaw has a coffee shop too:

It's a cross code thing:

Re: Coffee and Rugby
The Brand appears to also be in the coffee business.

Re: Coffee and Rugby
Used to be common for former French internationals to open bars and restaurants. Any new rugby entrepreneurs around on that side of the water? Perhaps someone doing a clothing brand like Wilko? In England, Fran Cotton and Steve Smith set up Cotton Traders, which does decent business for a company set up initially to sell rugby shirts.whocares wrote:The Brand appears to also be in the coffee business.

Yep nothing high profile but the usual bar/restaurant business. From the top of my head Poitrenaud, Garbajosa, Pelous, Servat, Michalak are all in that type of thing and that's just in the Toulouse area. You can add Trevor Brennan as well.

Re: Coffee and Rugby
Good article about Gregan and his wife. I always thought him a good leader and he made one of the real gracious comments about that 2003 RWC final match. I was glad he and Brumbies won the Super Rugby title the next season. Seems to be living a good life.
