SURREY HAVE NAMED AN UNCHANGED THIRTEEN MAN SQUAD FOR THE ROYAL LONDON ONE DAY CUP GAME AGAINST THE DERBYSHIRE FALCONS AT GUILDFORD ON SUNDAY.
The Surrey squad to play the Derbyshire Falcons in the Royal London One Day Cup at Guildford on Sunday 2nd August :
Gareth Batty (capt)
Zafar Ansari
James Burke
Rory Burns
Sam Curran
Tom Curran
Steven Davies
Jade Dernbach
Ben Foakes
Tim Linley
Jason Roy

poor old viscount chosen for the squad yet again with no chance of playing.
even though we have won the last 3 neither wilson or foakes are doing enough to deserve a place
third degree deserves a chance

Re: SURREY vs DERBYSHIRE FALCONS ROYAL LONDON CUP
Both Harold and Foakes aren't playing well enough but That's All does have some CC runs behind him and 44 in the Yorkshire match. Plus he scores at a quicker rate, has looked the nimbler gloveman and has age on his side.
Wilson is an underrated CC performer and adds another level headed leader to an inexperienced side, but he is coming off a torid T20 run for both Surrey and Ireland having been given the chance to bat up the order.
That spot should be going to Burns who deserves to be getting more 50 over exposure now.
1.Le Roi
2.Interesting
3.Sanga
4.Third Degree
5.That's All (wk)
6.Ansari
7.Burke
8.Curran minorly snr.
9.Pitt the even younger.*
10.Batty (c)
11.Dernbach
* I thought I'd throw in a Blackadder reference

126-1 off 25, a great platform has been provided by the top three

Sanga goes for 111 , 244-2 off 37.1 . If we get this right from here, it's close to 400, if we get it wrong, it's nearer to 300.

100's for Davies and Sanga, Sanga going from 50 to 100 in around 25 balls
Well played gents, Guildford I hope you're there today to witness such beauty

Hmm, tailing off a bit here. 274-4 with about 7 overs to go. We need a bit of pinch hitting to boost the final total up to well over 300.
Meanwhile, no sign of Wilson in the top 6. Do we need that kind of specialist w/k when we have Davies, Sanga and Foakes on the books?

The continued inclusion of Wilson in the 50 over side is truly baffling

Listening to the commentary, it doesn't sound the easiest of pitches to score quickly on....so it looks like a really good score from the lads...and I am confident of another 2 points...we really are playing well at the moment....if that has not jinxed things, nothing will

What's really encouraging is that we now have 5 youngsters capable of changing the course of a game with bat and ball - four of them genuine allrounders: Le Roy #ansariforengland, Curran Major and Minor, and Burke.
Better still, all have made significant contributions in at least one of our 50 over wins so far.

Just caught up with this match. Another excellent result. Davies really is in superb form. Remarkable bowling from Burke - considering he had been languishing well away from the Somerset first team for some while, he is proving an excellent signing.

Re: SURREY vs DERBYSHIRE FALCONS ROYAL LONDON CUP
back from guildford excellent batting from davies and kumar seem to get into a pickle when kumar got out third degree struggled hence why senior curran pushed up to 5
the pick of the bowlers were burke and jade who deserved a wkt he beat the bat on numerous occasions and on another day would have had at least 3
also the glove work by wilson was exceptional great catch to get Godleman when he was going the wrong way and a excellent stumping of hughes
it's that whats proving saving his place

He was wearing them in the nets but reportedly Stewie threatened to drop him for Pitt the glint in the milkmans eye unless he got changed.

Re: SURREY vs DERBYSHIRE FALCONS ROYAL LONDON CUP
Onto the cricket, a good win with much of the praise rightly going to Sanga and Interesting for their centuries and Burke for his 5 for.
Given how quick many, myself included, are to criticise Surrey signings in recent years I think it is only right to offer due praise on this occasion. Burke was signed having struggled for first team cricket at Somerset and many of us raised an eyebrow given Jewell had just been released. He has put in some excellent performances however and is fast developing into the bowling alrounder and hard hitting lower order batsmen this squad needed.
Also very pleased to see Sanga proving to be the overseas signing we searched for unsuccesfully for a fair few seasons.
Finally if Davies keeps up this form then I really hope that his decision to give up the gloves doesn't make it impossible for him to return to the England set-up as a batsmen.

kingcarlossaid (of Burke): '...is fast developing into the bowling alrounder and hard hitting lower order batsmen this squad needed.'
That puts him arguably alongside both the Curran boys and Zafer. One of the reasons we are so dangerous in 50 overs cricket is that we bat so deep and have plenty of front line bowling options. Even nicer that so much of this talent is at the front of the career.

Re: SURREY vs DERBYSHIRE FALCONS ROYAL LONDON CUP
Agreed on that Simon.
Sam Curran is probably a bit away from the all rounder moniker but he has the potential. I wouldn't be surprised if we see him kept down the order focusing on his bowling for few seasons however.
It's great to see Tom Curran being entrusted with more batting duties. Although it was done in fairly desperate circumstances, seeing him open in t20s shows how highly regarded he is. Similarly with being promoted up the order yesterday.
Pretty much every strong county squad I can think of down the years has had a fair share of multi faceted cricketers in it - many of them often underrated and overlooked by fans whilst performing key roles. If this crop of youngsters can develop into those sort of players then just maybe our brave optimism for the future of this squad will finally be well placed.
