Welsh World Cup Squad part 2
First topic message reminder :
Anyone else think Ll Williams and Anscombe did well when they came on? Would definitely take them over Phillips and Hook at the moment.

Re: Welsh World Cup Squad part 2
I see Cory Allen has slipped under the radar without any involvement, why is he that good having played for a poor defending Cardiff team?
The other selections look sensible with the selected squad, I prefer any flyhalf over Priestland but Anscombe is injured.

It looks like we have lots of cover for the wing but light for centre, I assume North may be pulled over as centre cover if Roberts or Williams get injurered.

I am guessing that as Allen has he edge over Tyler Morgan in terms of experience is what got him the nod.

Cory Allen has barely played for the Blues last season, he was injured. When he is fit and playing he is a very good defender

I rate Allen but was a bit surprised he got nod over Morgan due to his lack of game time. Surely he must start against Italy on the weekend.

I assume he will play against Italy, seems a little unfair on the cast off's resutling from the first Irish game, Allen has been selected without 1 minute of play is my point.

It does seem unfair, but there you go. Bedford's right that he has more experience than Tyler Morgan, which may have tipped the balance. My concern is that we're already down one first-choice centre before the tournament even starts, and I'd have liked a player in the squad who's actually played some rugby recently to step in if needed.
Cuthbert had better score some tries this World Cup, because he does chuff all else for the team. England and the Wallabies will be targeting him in defence because he's all at sea most of the time.

Gats,
"Alun Wyn should only be out for a couple of weeks but you never know with medial stuff. Luke Charteris got a bang on the leg and Bradley Davies played his first match for five and a half months against Ireland.
"We might have to have some tough conversations with the second-rows because if you are ruled out for a couple of weeks then you will probably be replaced."
Is he seriously suggesting replacing AWJ?

I cant think of another reason to include Dominic day other than an injury to AWJ

I assume he means if they are injured during the world cup, otherwise he just wouldn't have names AWJ. If Ball get injured playing against Fiji they are hardly going to give him 2 weeks to recover when they have 4 locks and may need replacements in other areas.

The direction of the tackler, and the position of the tackled player, left the tackler no option but to tackle him side on. If the tackler targeted the knee then it was a poor tackle because he missed! His tackle impacted well above the knee.
Just unfortunate.

From what I can see there's definitely case for it being off the ball, but I believe it was accidental.

It's off the ball, but it's committed. As for the shoulder into the knee bit, Lydiate will have to learn to tackle a new way too then.
It's clear as day, the tackler is committed.

If AWJ is injured. why select him in the final squad?
Surely he cannot be that bad. so what is all the fuss about?
And it looked like a fair tackle to me.

Guys, has anyone had a look at Uruguay yet?
I've watched both their games on the Japan tour and things look dire for them. A 40-0 loss and they never looked capable of scoring, never mind competing. They were lucky that Japan looked barely bothered, on these showing you've got to believe Wales, England and Australia might be posting scores of 90-130 points.

In the last WC Faletau played in every game and it looks like he will be asked to do the same again this year.
If not who is the likely alternative to start or cover at No8?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Welsh Uruguay team looks like this:
15 Liam Williams - if fit
14 Hallam Amos
13 Cory Allen
12 Scott Williams
11 Alex Cuthbert
10 Matthew Morgan
9 Rhys Webb
8 Taulupe Faletau
7 Justin Tipuric
6 Sam Warburton - wont need Lydiates tackling
5 Luke Charteris
4 Bradley Davies
3 Tomas Francis
2 Ken Owens
1 Paul James

Re: Welsh World Cup Squad part 2
The disadvantage of playing Uruguay is that we have no points barometer on which to measure so we will have to go flat out to score as many as possible from the start. The BIG BIG advantage now however is that with fingers crossed this is the only game we'll be without AWJ which in essence would be a god send.

Re: Welsh World Cup Squad part 2
Look, I'm Welsh and all this but most are you are forming an opinion off what are two poor quality links. From what I can see, the Irish bloke is running in a kind of scrummaging position early on to make a tackle and won't see if AWJ has passed on or not. So from that, he is committed to a tackle whether you like it or not. He doesn't hit on the knee as some suggest and it looks like the only reason AWJ actually injured his knee is due to the way he lands.
Can any of you actually say that Cement Head wouldn't have mentioned it if there was anything in it, particularly given his keenness to be honest/mischievous with the media?

Exactly. If Gatland thought one of his key players had been deliberately injured weeks ahead of the World Cup, he'd be fuming and we'd all know about it.

"Scarlets prop Rob Evans is still training with Wales today despite being left out of the World Cup squad.
Evans, 23, was one of seven players dropped from the national squad by coach Warren Gatland."
I am guessing he may be in as a loosehead this weekend against Italy...

Probably just injuries BW. Don't forget the vast majority will be in the match day squad so we're only talking 2 or 3 and we only have 2 hookers which is high risk IMO

I don't see the point either. It's like a consolation prize for those players, and it makes you wonder why they bothered scheduling a warm-up game after the final squad selection if they're not actually going to select from that squad.
