First topic message reminder :

Has anyone a better chin than McCall?

Chuvalo, McCullough,Margarito,Lamotta etc could take some beating but I get the impression you would need to shoot MCall in the head to put him down. Probably take two bullets as well.

It was a p!ss take. Ron Stander had a great chin. The problem was he coukdnt box and his defence consisted of his chin. Not sure if he was ever knocked out.

Stander was KO'd by Shavers, I think; he was also battered and stopped by Frazier (highly forgivable in both cases). However he was also floored three times and stopped by a guy called Jeff Merritt. Tough bloke, Stander, but not quite a Chuvalo.

Stander was never KO'd, and Stander beat Shavers by KO *

I've just watched Chuvalo vs Foreman and, without a shadow of a doubt, he has the best chin I've ever seen.

Tragic guy but an inspirational figure. Google him - I'm sure he lost his wife and kids in tragic circumstances.

Bit like lamotta, chuvalo got battered from pillar to post regularly in a long career and never showed any of the signs of being punch drunk you would expect. He talks quite eloquently about why he thinks he had a good chin, neck strengthening exercises he did etc.

That's an interesting interview that one Milky, he goes into quite a lot of depth about how he trained to a) take a punch and b) limit it's impact just like Lamotta. For one of boxings nicest guys he's been dealt a crappy life littered with family tragedy but still finds the positives and gives talks on suicide and drug abuse.

I remember Calzaghe's fight with Sakio Bika. Calzaghe was getting butted and elbowed left right and center, and to this day the scar he has under his eye is from a headbutt off Bika, not once did he go down though, now that was taking a beating and coming out with a win.

Calzaghe is some fighter. You only realize how good someone is after they retire.

Can't believe theirs no mention of Hagler, only dropped once in career took some good shots off Hearns and not many middleweights would have took that assault in 3 round fight. Jonh Mugabi who was regarded by many as the biggest puncher of the 80's, Hagler stood up to him.

Hagler one of the best ever. Probably tops the list of last thirty years or so. Duran(yes I know he was sparked off Tommy,) Duran, Chavez, Artur Abraham off the top of my head.

Forgot Eubank, he had a chin too.
