I think it's Brian eno. But that doesn't help. Must end in "he knows, he knows, he knows" but can't figure it out!

Probably required the musical knowledge of Jeff combined with Windows' premiership knowledge.
Good weekend? Finally got to rest this weekend so just watched the match with a few beers followed by a team night out. The over 30's shamefully lost the pint downing competition....

Not a bad weekend at all cheers sean, obviously another bad week for the mighty Dinno but hopefully they will come back stronger for it.
I chilled on friday, had a suit fitting for a wedding on Saturday, followed by my first visit to a Toby Carvery, then chilled Sunday...

True story Jules, just invested in fibre broadband, so hopefully be more up to date with D-List deaths.

Tough game again rick, our lack of goal threat is a serious issue. Spent the weekend trying to persuade TSMR of increasingly irresponsible ways to blow the redundancy money.

Couple of big signings needed I think Jeff...
Do any of them involve pilgramages to the venues of obscure 19th century fights?

No Rick, but I like the idea. They have mainly thus far involved expensive restaurants/weekends away or 4k curved TV's

I'd heard they were a bit..... A guy from work gave me a voucher and the ex nearly died when I asked if it was worth going. She can be a snob though

My mate showed me his on Friday. He spent a while flicking through the channels to try and find a channel that would show off its quality. I was underwhelmed.

I dare say I would be Sean, but am a bit of a geek when it comes to that stuff. My issue is my old TV is only about 18 month old and is still as good as I really need so the upgrade is completely unnecessary.

I am in the same boat Jeffers, my current smart TV is nearly 2 years old, and you can pick up a 4k for around £600 so no excuses, plus I play a lot of 1080p games on PS4 so need a high frame rate, and you are looking at a jump from 200Hz to 500hz which will make a difference...
Though 8k is here so go for for 8k curved OLED...

I don't play games, but do watch a lot of films. Truth is I don't really need the upgrade, but I want one, which should supersede any considerations about need or the sense in spending so much as far as I am concerned.

Pretty much Jeff no point in watching grainy pre-war footage of Gentleman Jim Corbett if you can't do it in HD.

If you don't need an upgrade Jeff, why do you want one? I think you need to question your entire value structure. I'd hate to see you get sucked into the idea that constant technological advancement is necessary for personal happiness.

Look Jules, I know a new TV will not fill the gaping chasm in my soul, but I have money burning a hole in my pocket and if I don't act quickly TSMR will spend it on something dull and practical.

Samsung's ultra high definition curved TV is a thing of beauty. Pity it's wildly out of my price range.

By coincidence Jeff, I have just sold 'Two Hundred Pharaohs, Five Billion Slaves' - a book that "examines the rise of the international bourgeoisie and the creation of their world of intense leisure shopping". Don't be a slave Jeff!

Why don't you agree to pay the credit card off, then use said card to make a large purchase... Win, win...

I need the tracking device Superfly, she is never in. On the plus side I finally finished my Kennedy book. Two and a half month that took me. Might write a thread about the assassination on the off topic section to wind one two up.

You should now read one of the conspiracy books for balance. Can't remember which one I read but it was reasonably sensible. Focussed a lot on the Officer Tippet killing to suggest that if it could be shown that Tippet wasn't killed by Oswald then there was at the very least, strong evidence to show that Oswald wasn't acting entirely alone.

Sorry Sean. Was full of good intentions, then realised there was a patch of grass in the garden that I hadn't watched grow for sometime.

If you know the name I'll give it a go. The Bugliosi book is brilliant. The section on the film JFK is hilarious. He absolutely slaughters it.

It's in a cupboard somewhere - I'll try to dig it out. I seem to recall that it was written by an English journalist. He does give Jim Garrison some credit as being earnest but I seem to recall him saying that Garrison's conclusions were fatally flawed.
There is some fanciful stuff in it about a picture showing someone wearing the same shirt as Oswald being seen outside the ground floor of the book depository as the motorcade went past, but generally I remember the book as being quite sober. Mind you, I was about 21 when I read it so anything short of alien abduction was going to be sober.
I tend to think the theories that involve Oswald being one of a multiple number of shooters are much more believable than those which suggest he didn't fire a shot at all.

Re: The Culture Cup Round x - Adam is a naughty naughty boy
Garrison really does not come out well from Bugliosi's book. The evidence he had on Shaw was, according to him, embarrassingly thin on the ground. There are even people in his investigative team of the opinion he knew Shaw was not involved but thought he was worth prosecuting just to get the various conspiracies theories in the public domain. If you are persuaded by this argument it is pretty shameful behaviour for a DA to prosecute a knowingly innocent man, whatever the overall reason for doing so.
