How cool is that

Just seen on our club's social media that Howeller is up at the Club at the moment and has gone out for 9 holes with 3 of our promising young juniors. Wonder how much they realise how lucky they are. He's always been supportive an encouraging to our juniors as he came through the same path.

Clearly it must be rubbing off as well as we have 3 juniors in 3 different age groups heading to St Andrews next week as they've qualified for the national finals of the wee wonders. That's down to a dedicated and enthusiastic coach but Howellers encouragement is very helpful icing on the cake.

He seems like a very nice bloke.

Probably partly due also to the personal investment guys like you, JAS, put into the place. His engagement reflects well on all of you.

Apparently Jason Day provided a strapped for cash golf writer with around 40 new shirts after learning of the fellows plight.

What's he going to do with 40 golf shirts? What a bizarre gift.

Also, They weren't exactly his shirts; and they were unused but hardly "new", as the only reason Day unloaded them on the poor hack was that they bore an out-of-contract sponsor's name. Nice gesture but actually cost Day nothing.

Sounds an unlikely story. Why would Jason Day have 40 (forty) shirts on him?

As Kwini said they were shirts that bore the name of a previous sponsor. Day is said to have noticed that the guy always wore the same couple of shirts and asked him why he did this. When he found out why he told the guy to come and find him at the next event/later in the week and gave him the shirts. So the "only reason" he gave them to the bloke was to provide some shirts for him to wear.

It may have cost him nothing but it is a vastly preferable act to donating to the GOP which most of the tour seem to spend their spare cash on.

Was the journo wearing Golf Shirts to go to work in? SOunds like the sort of FKW you see at golf events.

I wear a shirt and trousers, just as I would if I was a golf reporter/journo. I wouldn't wear Golf Shirts if I did his job, and I wouldn't wear an F1 drivers suit if I was an F1 reporter.

As mentioned in original post of the 3 kids off to St Andrews next week, one of them (an 8 year old) is in Italy playing the Venice Open this week and is lying joint first going into the final round, doing himself and his club proud. :-)
