The forgotten Brit
Anyone remeber Alex ''the dstroyer'' Stewart?
Born in London to Jamaican parents Stewart went on to represent JA in the '84 Olympics. I remeber him being beaten up by Holy after living up to his moniker the destroyer by blasting out 22 victims and making a name for himself. Holy really battered him tho and it seemed to go down hill from there.
Stewart fought a few good names but after Tyson slapped him in 1 round back in 1990 Stewart folded career wise. Koed by a young prime Moorer in 4 rounds Stewart went on to fight a last chance saloon type of fight against 40 odd year old George Forman. Forman put him on his back twice but Alex showed true heart that night and rallied to make the fight a close contest. Forman eventually won the fight but took a beating doing so as his face was disfigured by Stewart.
Not a great but in the same line of British fighters like Davy boy Green and Tony Sibson. Fighters from UK who fought but lost to ATG's.

Re: The forgotten Brit
Probably because he was only born here, represented Jamaica and lives in America that no one gives much of a turd about him as he's not a Brit.

Or Lewis...
Stewart was born here and lived here. Decent fighter tho and tough as nails.
TRUSS you are unfair on him he did better then Spinks against Tyson. Why is it when Tyson destroys an opponent in 1 round people are quick to bash that guy and say he was a bum?

You don't turn up at the Olympics, have a look around and think which nation you'll fight for as you like their team uniforms...

Competing in the Olympics doesn't necessarily mean you give up nationality of every other nation.Coxy001 wrote:You don't turn up at the Olympics, have a look around and think which nation you'll fight for as you like their team uniforms...

If you were American you would have to give up your passport (and nationality) to live here full time without visa constraints, assuming you're single and didn't marry a Brit.
He didn't rock over to Jamaica and remain a Brit. He switched nationalities, otherwise you could end up being a national of multiple countries all at the same time.

Do you actually think that's impossible? I think your knowledge of the world might actually be as weak as your boxing knowledge.Coxy001 wrote:Scottrf wrote:Competing in the Olympics doesn't necessarily mean you give up nationality of every other nation.Coxy001 wrote:You don't turn up at the Olympics, have a look around and think which nation you'll fight for as you like their team uniforms...

Lewis is a Brit by the letter of paperwork and legal stuff.
Ergo Stewart isn't British as no-one refers to Lewis as Canadian.
This isn't hard guys.... Gave up nationality. Switched it.... No longer British. Etc.

The Mrs has a British and Australian passport due to her dad being a Brit and mum an Aussie.
As a single person you would have to give up your American passport to live and work here full time without visa hassles and become a full Brit. How do I know that? American friend of mine almost got to that stage before finding a company to sponsor her visa.

I'm not sure even you know the point you're trying to make.
But dual nationalities exist.

That's only for the US. Not all countries have the same system as that.

Celine Dion sang for Switzerland in Eurovision. Not applicable to this argument but, if you're ever in a pub quiz and it comes up...

Re: The forgotten Brit
Its hard to be forgotten when you were never remembered in the first place.
Stewart fought for Jamaica in the Olympics, parents are Jamaican, never had a professional fight in Britain, so what makes him a Brit, nothing, If his parents are Jamaican then he's Jamaican, its simple as that.
