Guess Pardew wanted to give a younger lad a chance, Speroni is 36 and out of contract in the summer.

Of course today is the day Liverpool finally drop Lovren and Sturridge is back. A lot less confident now.

Milner should be off, on a yellow and a horrible dive not punished

Superb save initially by De Gea but his defence haven't done him any favours with the rebound.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
They have bigger worries then the defence there, Fonte ran through the midfield and played a simple ball into Mane and they were straight at the back 4.

Milner got booked for his first tackle in this game Olly, yet Tettey got away with that. Poor refereeing.

Sturridge not booked for that dive? Seen him go down twice now like a dying swan.

He should be, but the yellow shouldn't have actually been a yellow based on the refs decision with Tettey there so it evens itself out.

I do like the look of this setup for Liverpool a lot more than the 4-3-3

It's definitely better than 4-3-3 and does get the best out of Skrtel and Moreno, as well as allowing Sturridge and Benteke to play in their natural positions together. However last year playing a similar formation worked for a while until other teams worked it out and it simply didn't work. I just don't want Rodgers to go back to 4-3-3, at least not in the style he wants it. Rodgers is quite good at coming up with unusual formations that work and actually play to the strengths of the players, he just needs to know when to change it up. For example, in this game if by 70 mins still not scored, push Can forward and turn it into a diamond.

Played alright so far, Coutinho has been very quiet so far, starved for space really in that area. Norwich are really well organised, just maybe a little blunt attacking wise.

About as a good as we could hope for when we're playing so badly with the ball. Need a heck of a lot more from Jerome, service isn't great but he's gotta make something better of it when it does come.
Happy enough at HT - hoping to see Wes and Mbokani/Grabban somepoint soon tho

Liverpool wise - you look a lot better with Sakho over Lovren (hardly rocket science I know) and Moreno looks lively. Coutinho quiet so far, and Sturridge a tad rusty.

Get in! Fantastic finish from Ings. Not sure why Benteke has come off, wasn't watching before kick off, but great goal by Ings.
I think Milner isn't suited to be a central midfielder, I'm hoping a more consistent run centrally will help.

Tight hamstring for Benteke Crimey but we look so much more dangerous since Ings has come on anyway.

I think Ings could become a real crowd favourite, a very hard worker. Reminds me of Michael Owen a bit as well, albeit not quite as good as Owen was.

That save from De Gea was beyond incredible!
Also is Danny Ings playing in his new role of left wing full forward back striker?

Pathetic collapse from Southampton, pretty much gifted to United.

Ings looks quite lively - actually think if played up top he suits Liverpool's style a lot more than Benteke

Lucas off, Firmino on. Can moving forward and diamond?
Mainly glad to see Rodgers show attacking intent and make use of his subs.

Southampton are falling apart at the back every time Martial gets the ball, his speed is tearing them apart at the moment.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Disappointing result, really improved performance. Best we've looked this season and with a sharper Benteke and Sturridge as well as Ings feeling a bit more optimistic. Milner and Coutinho were poor. Defence looked so much better and Moreno was very dangerous in the wing back role.

Gonna be keeping an eye on Sturridge's link up with Benteke. Little bit of leeway due to returning from injury, but it seemed to me that many times he chose not to pass to Benteke when he was the best option.

Sturridge often is a little bit selfish on his return from injuries until he scores a goal usually. I'm sure it'll improve and get better, Sturridge tends to get less selfish when things are going well for him in front of goal. Him and Suarez supposedly had a bit of a rivalry, so I have no issues with him and Benteke getting a bit annoyed at each other for not passing to the other, it's natural that both would want to score goals.

United beating Southampton away; Liverpool drawing at home to Norwich.
Not difficult to see why United getting into the top four ahead of Liverpool is, and always has been, a foregone conclusion.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
is it just me or is the look martial has, actually scarier than Costa's? Looks like an assassin & agree this boy looks the real deal. Still think United's defence is awful, but seeing as the PL is pretty woeful too, they won't have any problem reaching the top 4
