Two US Journalists Shot Dead LIVE on TV in US
First topic message reminder :
Jesus, that's horrendous.
Two journalists have been shot dead during a live TV report in the US state of Virginia, their employer confirms.
WDBJ7 TV reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, were killed during an interview in Moneta, Bedford County, the TV station said.
During the live broadcast, shots could be heard, sending the reporter and the person she was interviewing running.
Police say they are investigating the incident and still searching for the suspect.
Jesus, that's horrendous.

If twenty kids were murdered in Germany I can't see Britain rushing to change it's policies....
Whilst I can see the point you're trying to make the comparison is reaching a bit, for me. The fact of the matter is that these atrocities are being committed on American soil and it is down to the American government to ensure that they put in place the correct legislation to prevent re-occurrences and for the American people to fight for this to happen. So what if a 200 year old bit of paper says you can have them, have we not evolved since then?
It's my bad for not explaining the cultural differences between our two Countries........
Every morning at school we had to put our right hands on our heart (Father had to do the Bellamy (Nazi) salute before WW2..Changed for obvious reasons) and do the pledge of allegiance plus sing endless recitals Of God bless America.....We had flags in every classroom and at least ten houses on our street alone had flags....
I have ..."One nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all".......Coming out of my a**e...
Could you imagine If Cameron said "Ask not what your country can do for you etc"......They would have laughed at him..
The constitution is like the American bible.....To many it's like asking a religious nut to change the commandments...
Only hope is to amend but guns are hear to stay................Unfortunately..
I'm pretty much an Anglophile...........But your Country is far more cynical and less set in it's ways......It's both a good thing and a bad thing !!...
Me I'm anti gun lobby..............Most Northern Democrats are............I'm from the North East.....
Teddy Kennedy was an advocate for gun restriction and for far more responsibility to be put on gun manufacturers.........But he didn't have to worry about re-election.....Kennedy wanted to ban shotguns....and semi automatics....
The "liberal lion" will be sadly missed...
I remember talking about this with some American friends a while back. They said it was almost like brain washing up until the mid-2000's (could be earlier) where participation was mandatory.
I actually think the American patriotism is good to some extent. It is nothing to be ashamed of to be able to fly your flag with pride (something the British are often chastised for by their own government). However, I do think that it is too often the case that people can go over the top with it which in turn creates a negative image.
You'll know more than me on this; could the individual states not bring in laws or does the constitution overrule this? I like the idea of at least removing assault rifles with a gun amnesty for handing them in. I can imagine that part of the issue for some is the amount of money these rifles have actually cost them and how they'd be reimbursed for this.

Trot out the same old, tired arguments eh? I'd bet my soul the founding fathers had no concept, what-so-ever, of the weaponry that would be freely available to every crackpot/tosspot in the U.S. ~300 years later. It's pathetic but let them carry on believing it's "their right". Hopefully, a few (hundred/thousand) NRA whack jobs get family members offed by some prats with guns. Let's see how they feel then eh? The gun lobby funds most Republican candidates and most Southern Democrats who are more right wing than Northern Republicans..
Besides it's our second amendment right to bear arms in case of Government tyranny as laid down by the founding fathers....if Obama decides he wants a dictatorship and the army are complicit..... The good ole boys can get their guns out and reassert democracy..
Don't blame the gun...............People that pull triggers kill people..
To answer the OP, horrendous but then why is anyone at all surprised anymore? Move along, nothing to see...

Yeah, but duh!!! We changed the laws as a direct result. No more AK47s etc in the hands of cretins. Seems logical to me. The U.S. just doesn't give a stuff.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Dunblane happened over here..........

If people read all the thread and not snippets......They'd see I was in the anti-gun lobby..
Perhaps however...It's better If some don't read it and just jog on..

I'm not bothered if you're personally anti-gun - you're constructing your argument from the pro-right-to-bear-arms side of the fence. I wasn't meaning to take a pot shot at you personally if it wasn't merited but I'll certainly fire at all the subnormals who defend carnage on a daily basis in the U.S. because of some ill thought through (and apparently immutable) paragraph in their Constitution. The U.S. Constitution has all sorts of Amendments - make another one, altering the 2nd. It really isn't rocket science.
