How obviously would the Chargers be the worst team in the league if they didn't have Rivers?

Normally I'd be depressed when we inevitably lose by 2-3 scores, but this is all gravy at this point.

We may still (likely) blow this, but I did not think Sam Bradford had that 3rd down throw in him.

I don't understand how pro footballers under BB can give away so many penalties.

Well, you tried your best to blow it GSC but it seems that NE didn't want it.
Suddenly the Pats don't look so invincible. That's was just plain ugly tonight.
I'm gutted you won that to be honest GSC... keeps you in the thick NFC East race.... such as it is.

Well we're without our best WR, TE, RB and LT...no team is invincible missing those pieces - but that one is on the coaches. Horror show, complete horror show of coaching from Belichick, McDaniels and whoever the heck the special teams coach is.

Being on the field is kinda a crucial part...whenever I've seen him he's looked pretty average to me (although you will have seen him more!)

Dreadful start to the Redskins/Cowboys game.
Two dreadful offenses. What's the lowest scoring game in NFL history? This game may threaten it tonight on the early evidence.
Also, is it just me, or is football slowly being made unwatchable with the number of flags that are being thrown. This game is only 7 mins old and already I've lost count of how many we've had.

NFC East should just be shut down. Can't believe one of these teams has to go to the playoffs.

So many flags! Redskins' Ryan Grant has just been flagged for an illegal crackback block in which he makes no contact with the defender!
NFL has problem just now with overly fussy officiating.

It's still possible that there could be a 6-10 team in the playoffs this year. What a time to be alive.

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
I've been willing to give Gruden some rope so far, but the play calling last night has convinced me he hasn't got it in him. The Cowboys are blitzing on almost every play, and you tell me you can't find Garcon, DJax or Reed on a hot route, or even Jones out of the backfield? And then, when we get the chance to go 2 scores up on them, we get ultra conservative again. Go for the jugular man!
Sorry, but he's hung his hat on Cousins, and he's probably going to be given it back as he walks out the door soon. Biggest problem for us is there is no clear pro capable QB in the draft, so we're almost certainly stuck with Cousins for next year when we sling RGIII out in the spring. I suspect Snyder will hesitate to pull the trigger again so soon after the last 2 failures (not that I think Shanahan really failed) so Gruden gets 1 more year. But if he can't deliver a division title at least by the end of next season, he should be gone.
On another note, I wholly agree that the officiating is getting in the way of great football this season. Some of the calls are abysmal. I suspect replay is starting to eat into their confidence and they are flagging everything, whereas before they would have exercised some sense in the calls, or at least be sure in their minds before calling it.

Khalil Mack was unplayable today, what a monster game. Five sacks to go a half sack ahead of Watt on the year (until he plays of course lol)

The work of Marquette King will probably go unnoticed in light of Macks performance tonight, but that was as good a game a punter can have. Gave us some brilliant field position to work with in that second half

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
Oakland fans gotta be excited going forward, the offence looks pretty much set around a really good young core (could probably do with another WR) and you've got your QB finally.
Defensively you still need work, but Mack is a heck of a piece to begin building around.
Another good draft this year could really take you places

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
Yeah definately, think we could do with some talent in the secondary, only really woodson back there we can rely on and i cant see him stopping another year
Reggie has had his critics but right now we are really looking like an improved team under him. While i hate the off season, i already cant wait to see his next draft. Hes nailed the last couple, his first was a bit iffy though, that DJ Hayden was a waste of a first round pick. Seems to get beaten every time. But the furure is deffo brighter than it has been for over a decade
In over news Bengals expect Daltons season to be over

The guy who a couple of weeks ago forgot you're not allowed to pass it beyond the line of scrimmage... despite having been penalised for it earlier in the game. Fun fact: ESPN's (somewhat questionable) QBR had him as the worst starter of the week despite putting 50 on the Colts.GSC wrote:Blake Bortles is developing into quite a nice gunslinger.

The guy who is also 3rd in the league in TD passes with 30 in his 2nd season.
Strange really, Bridgewater looked the most accomplished as a rookie, but Carr and Bortles are miles ahead of him now.
And of course, there's Johnny Manziel, or dumbest guy in football as I like to call him.

Weapons, all about weapons. Carr/Bortles have very good weapons, Bridgewater has Mike Wallace and a bum offensive line.
Carr is the best of all of them imo. But there are some very good young QB's coming through, which is good for the sport

Re: Ongoing NFL Discussion Thread V
You wondered if Rex Ryan had learnt the lessons from the mistakes that doomed him in New York.
You have to wonder how many top HCs would have muzzled their star RB after he went off on the opposing HC to the press. Or when he did again the day after, or the day after that. Rex allowed this game to become LeSean McCoy vs Chip Kelly for the Bills. And they ended up being an undisciplined hot mess.
Rex is a fun guy no doubt, but there's a reason some of the top HCs all time are considered a**holes by their players.

He's also managed to completely nullify that defence, making it much much worse than it was under Pettine/Schwartz in previous years.
Ultimately he's all talk, and can't back it up on the field.
