I think what I'm concerned about here is that Fitzgerald and Payne have never once played together and Fitzgerald has hardly played this position at all.
In other overlooked news; Devin Toner is left out entirely.

Golden, if Ireland come home with the trophy I will be amazed. I would love to see them get to the Semi Finals.

Don't know about that. There is a need for Henderson's physicality. Toner isn't a great bench option apparently. Though Toner's key is being a very safe option on our lineouts and a b@st@rd to get the ball around on opposition lineouts. If Best/Cronin have one of their many off days with the darts, not having Toner available will cause plenty of issues (no point kicking the corner if we can't be assured of winning our own ball).
No need to worry about Luke at 12, chances are he tweaks something during the warm-up anyway! Cave better get suited up for the inevitable.
Don't agree with Healy from the bench. You should be starting him. If he can only do 20 minutes then fine, sub him off. But having Jack start, come off at 40-50 minutes and potentially go back on at 60-70 minutes isn't the correct approach (am I mistaken to think that would also burn 2 substitutions taking game time from someone else?).
Hopefully Henshaw is only a slight twinge and they are just being precautionary with a view to the bigger games to come.

Re: Ireland v Canada, 19 September
I'm not saying Toner is God, bandwagon. No, I'd agree with you on that one.
He ain't perfect by any means but it's just often surprising how effective he can be in big games where ...well, maybe a degree of logic based on physicality and meanness of spirit would suggest he should be made look quite ordinary and limited.
I've often worried about him in the past with his lack of bulk...but he's filled out and he just seems to be better than maybe warped sense predicts he should be!
I think he'll be part of important games coming.

Not looking to take you down buddy Toner's height, kind of like Bayfield in the day means his bulk is kind of hidden on such a large frame. But Toner isn't a bench option because what he gives you is stability as opposed to impact. And the Irish bench is now a weapon to unleash weapons from, stability doesn't have a place there.

Game in 2 hours lads. Mobody watching it? Just me then? Ye? 9.30 kick off in Australia with watery Guinness.
Ireland on the handicap at -43. Think I'll leave that alone. Buzzing for it to get going.
Hon the lads

Anyone know why the organisers dictated the roof be shut for all games at the MS? They decided this before the tournament. It's lovely weather today! Seems a shame.

Ireland should be aiming for a winning margin like that. I'm going to say Ireland by 30... and really hope they don't let me down in terms of being accurate and ruthless.

I agree. The roof is great for really extreme weather but it's an outdoor sport.
My guess is that the organisers have made that decision to try and generate as much of an atmosphere as possible.

This Canada team is woefully off form and lost all their RWC warm up matches. A lot of Canadian fans on other forums are calling for the coaches head.

Ireland are being allowed whatever they want, not releasing the player, tackling in the air, tackling without the ball. You name it.

Hearst yellow (only joking). Jackson did seem to be favouring Ireland leading up to the yellow though. Even the pen before looked like Ross was holding on.

Clever play by Ireland going wide quickly when Canada had moved a center into the scrum

Lovely move there.
Racking up the score quite early.
Hopefully they keep at this intensity for 80 mins.

I know this is Canada but I am very happy to see Ireland actually showing some attacking intent. This is what I have been waiting to see, Ireland practicing their attacking moves in match situations.

Re: Ireland v Canada, 19 September
Well done to Fitzgerald for applying the pressure to force the mistake. Feel almost disappointed for Canada there not to get something from the half. They've fronted up, but Ireland playing at a higher level than can deal with when Cudmore went off.

Yup unfortunate for the Canadians. The defence has been a big weak point during the warm ups so would be nice to keep them out for the whole game.

The question is now do Ireland look after key players in the second half, unleash the replacements.

Re: Ireland v Canada, 19 September
I was really questioning Fitz for 12 in this match but he has certainly done very well so far, stand out centre for Ireland so far today.
Henderson has been simply brilliant, for me he is only slightly edging Sexton as Irelands best player so far.
Nice setup from Fitz for Dave Kearney's try but Dave showed a very clean set of heels and an eye for the line as well.

Ireland each time at the restart pretending to lift O Brien then letting Kearney take it behind them

I'm not having a go at Ireland here because all teams do it but why is it acceptable to tackle with no arms when defending the line? All teams do it but it gets on my nerves.
