It does feel a bit like Xmas eve as I sit in a Virgin carraige heading south from Edinburgh to join the festivities...

Calum Clarke didn't make the squad. I'll get that one out of the way!

Is there any craic on the train? Any hint that something special is about to happen?

Enjoy everyone and may we all be treated to some excellent rugby. I and one of my sons have been invited to tonight's opener, which is very exciting. The problem is my other son who is not going! It was his birthday yesterday and he was hoping for a last minute surprise, which sadly did not happen and he had a very glum look this morning.

The Kiwi team are staying across the road from my offices in London, seen the team bus a few times. And working in Brighton this morning, saw a bunch of the Japanese Rugby Team at their hotel.
Getting excited now!

and how we pay for it! But then again that's life and you cannot get everything you want. Next time the other son will go.
Glad that the action is starting as the opinions and build up is getting exhausting. Exciting times for the players and will be fun watching it unfold.

Starting with Scotland's as their biggest dream seems to be England to lose rather than their team to win.

Whilst getting my breakfast this morning in Tesco I heard a guy ahead of me in the queue saying the RWC was a waste of time as NZ have never lost a game on British soil.
Don't you just love it when people pretend to know the game, he was so smug and sure of himself too.

You should have told him that France have never lost to NZ on British soil. Two wins from two games and they may well meet in the quarter finals.

It did cross my mind to set him straight but I didn't want to come across as a know it all, even if I do.
But to be fair he probably read it on the BBC website!

Was it that NZ have never lost a game when it's been a fair fight? (And no I don't think that applies to the all blacks themselves. Just various commentators and media outlets)

Re: Happy World Cup Everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just walked through Rugby town centre and the council's countdown clock (they had to remove official branding) has already counted down to 00 days 00 hours 00 minutes 00 seconds. A little prematurely.
I like watching some of the minor nations play each other. Just a shame the big 10 nations play each other all year round and the minor nations don't get more experience against the bigger nations. Would love to see a few shocks. Would love to see a team like Italy, Tonga, Canada or Georgia make the quarter finals even with the bonus points system favouring the big teams.

Italy and Tonga have outside chances of surprising people and making the knockouts. I can't see Canada or Georgia doing that.
