Re: SURREY vs NORTHAMPTONSHIRE LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Decent start for both sides this morning. Lancs well on course to reach 300 quickly, while Currans CCC take three early wickets for us, including both overnight batsmen. This could yet go down to the wire. Got a feeling that Essex may well fold in their second innings so we may need to mop up Northants realtively early in order to chase chase down a - hopefully - not too challenging target.

Re: SURREY vs NORTHAMPTONSHIRE LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Simon - I think the chances of Lancs getting any propsect of victory today are on the far side of remote. With the dismissal of Prince, it looks in any case as though Lancs are now accumulating runs steadily rather than doing a mad dash for 300. With promotion already secured I doubt that Lancs would see the prize of going up as champions as justifying doing anything too far beyond the realms of normal cricket.

Re: SURREY vs NORTHAMPTONSHIRE LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Thanks for your reassurance , Corporal. But I am still a little nervous, especially as long as Rossington continues to belt us all around the park, belying his 2015 CC2 batting average of just under 30 at a strike rate of around 70 (...Matt Coles, anyone?).

...and with Northants looking like they could still be batting come next season, our Championship hopes now appear to hang on Essex neither collapsing nor offering Lancs a sorting declaration. Not ideal.

Re: SURREY vs NORTHAMPTONSHIRE LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Bizarre the pattern of wickets in Northants second innings!
The chance of Lancs winning their match is on the low side of negligble. Pretty much inconceivable that Essex would decide to declare after tea. The Essex lead is already over 100 and overs remaining is already down to about 40.

Re: SURREY vs NORTHAMPTONSHIRE LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
4 of their batsmen have made about 450 between them - 6 of the others have 7 between them. This is where we're a bowler (at least) short and something that still needs to be addressed for next season, especially if we start getting England call-ups for Ansari or a Curran..

215 to win, 33 overs left 6.5 an over
no chance of that so fingers crossed essex don't collapse

We can forget about Essex - there is no way Lancs are going to win that match!jimbobgooner wrote:215 to win, 33 overs left 6.5 an over

We did manage a similiar total in around 20 overs earlier in the season when Roy and Davies smashed the ball all over the place. Whether Surrey have the inclination to attack this total to finish off the season in style, I wouldnt like to say... They certainly don't need to if they don't feel like it.

Run chase KLAXON! with Roy and Davies opening. I agree they may well call off the chase quite early on if they lose quick wickets.

Re: SURREY vs NORTHAMPTONSHIRE LV=COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Wonder whether Surrey will shut up shop now. There's still 21 overs, potentially, to be bowled, so the required scoring rate is not too problematic at this stage. I suppose Wilson and Foakes could consider playing more circumspectly now, but if they manage another 30/40 at, say, four an over without losing a wicket they could resume the chase.

CORPORAL I think that's a good assessment - we have some lower order biffers if we need quick runs near the end

They have to give it a go, surely. If they swing to a win, what a great end to the season. If they go down in a blaze of glory, we're still up, and up as Champions. And what a game it would be with the first 10 wicket haul in an innings by a pair of brothers for 144 years; Tom Curran's first 10 wicket match (I think); and a win for a side who followed on 300 behind!! (another CC record?).
It's all happening at the Oval: don't let's see this great season for us creep out quietly towards next year's Wisden.

Yeah, but in a slightly anticlimactic way, giving up on the run chase with two set frontline batsmen and one or two tonkers still to come. Sums it up for me that we were confirmed as Div 2 Champions while Churchy was away from the mike 'powdering his nose'.
Ok. Enough of the grumpiness: WELL DONE SURREY, CC2 CHAMPIONS 2015!!!!! Get that bar open at once

Bit surprised they finished at the point, with both sides in with a fair chance of winning. I expect both teams fancied putting their feet up and having a few together after a tough three days of cricket at the very end of the season.

Been dipping in and outa bit today, work permitting!..sounds an amazing day at the Oval..hope GB got to see it..Like others, slightly puzzled why we didn't carry on a bit longer rather than accepting the draw..unless the players couldn't wait to get to the champagne!..Congratulations to Surrey..what a great season
By the way, churchy reporting that at today's Jumblesale at the Oval, someone paid £50 for Rory Burn's jockstrap... Was that you GB?

Easy, Corp - some of us have to drive this weekend. Watch out for a season's end thread early next week, otherwise there are barely 200 days to CC1 2016, and a new adventure for us Surrey faithful.
