I did say Smalling is very good no?
Sounds like Monks departure is imminent. Dont get that one really, seems slightly early.

HH that was aimed at me and I think that's fair. I do think Smalling has been good, not as amazing you think but better than I thought. But I don't think United have the best defence in the league

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
I look at it from the point of view of what defence is better but it is solely dependent on Smalling at the moment.
In more positive news Luke Shaw is already back in light training, hoping they aren't progressing his rehab too quickly.

Haha brilliant. Things can't go well. McCarthy went out there to do him, no doubt, got away with it, probably got his team a draw, and now we're without our best player. Typical. Martinez will continue to smile in his press conferences, but they were after him with heavy stuff all game.

Shame about Payet, was a shocker of a challenge. Without him, you'd expect WHU to struggle to replicate the form they've showed.

Good on him, never been one to throw hate his way at West Ham, the injuries were frustrating but they really were not of his fault and I'm pretty sure annoyed him a hell of a lot more than it annoyed us.

Definitely out for the season, knee looked a mess in that u-21 game for France. Shame, cos he looked the best signing Villa had made out of that new crop.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Yep, huge blow.
Options then, Richardson.
Could maybe play Clarke there, Play Lescott at cb, or Okore.
Crespo.
Bacuna rb, with Hutton moving to lb
Or young Lewis Kinsella, but to much to throw a kid in when you are rock bottom of the legue.
Amavi was playing well to.
Bennett & Cissokho both on loan.
Gonna be even weaker at the back now, as none of the above options as good as Amavi.
Wonder what Garde will do.

Be interested to see how that goes then unlike Bournemouth & Norwich, Watford seem defensively competent. Quique is doing a very good job (not much of a surprise)

Watford XI: Gomes; Nyom, Cathcart, Britos, Anya; Capoue, Watson; Abdi, Jurado, Deeney; Ighalo
Subs: Arlauskis (GK), Oulare, Paredes, Ake, Guedioura, Ibarbo, Diamanti
Manchester United XI: De Gea; Young, Jones, Smalling, Blind; Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger; Mata, Herrera, Lingard; Depay
Subs: Romero, Rojo, McNair, Darmian, Goss, Pereira, Rashford
initial thoughts are why not Darmian over Young at RB and what does Wilson need to do to get a game

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
One can really see LVG modus operandi and how he has been so successful in his career as manager. With so many key players out he still is able to turn out a similar team. LVG focus is on the squad (23 players) rather than a favoured eleven. Rooney, Martial, Fellaini, Carrick, Valencia all out injured, but you would hardly notice their absence.

helps when the opposition are playing like a conference side. I'd have second thoughts about Watford staying up, playing like this

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
LVG asks of his players to play a number of different ways for him that serve a role within his team. So he tends to get different players playing the same role. So it is difficult for each player to show flare if they have it.GSC wrote:If we're being fair, I struggle to notice when Rooney, Fellaini, Carrick and Valencia are playing.

Or a Deeney own goal.
Cruel on Watford, deserved something on the 2nd half performance.

Asking for trouble
Also, if Romelu Lukaku scores one goal today for Everton , he will reach 50 Premier League goals before his 23rd birthday.
The four men who have managed that feat are: Robbie Fowler (20 years 251 days), Michael Owen (22 years 255 days), Wayne Rooney (21 years 54 days) and Cristiano Ronaldo (22 years 340 days). Not bad company at all & tells you how much of an achievement it is & what is achievable in the future.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Never understood why Mourinho let Romelu Lukaku go. I suppose it is true what they say about Mourinho - he is useless or uninterested in developing young players.LiamB wrote:... if Romelu Lukaku scores one goal today for Everton , he will reach 50 Premier League goals before his 23rd birthday.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
He wasn't ready to play for a top team, and Everton offered 30m. 30m for a player they weren't going to use for a few years is attractive under FFP.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
I think Lukaku was on loan for Everton and scoring for fun in a Drogba style (and before Everton he was doing the same for WBA). But yes 30 m is a lot of money so I guess that was an understandable deal. But nevertheless Mourinho is still accused of not developing young players.GSC wrote:He wasn't ready to play for a top team, and Everton offered 30m. 30m for a player they weren't going to use for a few years is attractive under FFP.
