well for all the chat im pretty happy overall.
there is no reason at all to think Scotland cant win the next 6n. we are like wales were in mid 2000s. loads of young players. Second youngest team in wc .
well done !

Steady on. We played well against Oz, but I think we are still a long way from winning the 6 nations. Don't get me wrong it would be nice and we should be aiming to challenge, but to go from wooden spoon to winning, would be a massive jump in the space of a year.

Hopefully they can bring this to next 6 nations and finally be the dark horses that have been predicted for the last few years

I'd love there to be a "Dark Horses Title". We'd be awesome.

Scottish sentiment was positive after the AIs last year:
https://www.606v2.com/t56566-scotland-6n-lookahead
Four months later however:
https://www.606v2.com/t57924-scotland-you-do-not-deserve-my-time
and really that has been a regular occurrence, optimism following either a decent Summer or autumn followed by huge negativity come spring time.
hopefully this is a real upturn and not just yet another minor oscillation.

Your name LondonTiger suggests you have no real affiliation with Scotland, I may be wrong though so no offense...LondonTiger wrote:Scottish sentiment was positive after the AIs last year:

But to hear you say you are hopeful of an upturn in our fortunes, imagine those with a vested interest in Scottish Rugby feel.

Nothing wrong with being positive about ones team.
One thing I really would like to see though is Scotland coaches having more faith in their players and putting out their best teams in every World Cup match.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm as others have said we have been here before too often. However this is the best group of players since 1990, we do have a decent coach and in that game against Aus we finally saw some signs they are clicking as a team. Its a long way up from the bottom but just maybe we have started that climb

None whatsoever - though being a yorkie by birth we both are accused of having short harms and long pockets.
I do feel that the entire 6Ns needs to raise its standard, and usually that works best if the teams who have been propping up the table can improve. That forces all to improve.

Re: well done Scotland
Assuming this is a thread for congratulating Scotland so i will...
Best Scotland performance in 20 years, Well done to a man you were magnificent. just wish the 6 nations started tomorrow. Kinda feels like we are all dressed up with no where to go now.
If we can bring through another couple of decent tightheads and hookers and find another couple wingers as back up we are cooking on gas.

Re: well done Scotland
Great performance to run Australia all the way, probably the best performance by a 6n side in the World Cup.
However, Scotland conceded 5 try's and managed to stay in touch as much as by Australia's mistakes (charge down try and interception try) as Scotland's game play. Also don't forget the previous game against Samoa which Scotland were really lucky to win!
On the plus side though, great scrum, WP Nell looks very strong also the Gray brothers are coming of age. Behind the scrum Bennet and Hogg look good. So probably better than expected and now need to kick on in the 6n.

Re: well done Scotland
I think people are getting a little carried away here - it was a very good performance but a charge down and interception suggest that Aus played a little part in their near downfall. Teams that also concede 5 try's rarely win. Consistency in winning is what we need to see from Scotland and at least they can take some confidence from this albeit with a dose of bitterness due to the nature of the defeat

Nothing about the pressure in defence to force those errors? Come on man a little credit. These intercept tries are a hall mark of the Scottish defensive structure. There has been one in every game this tournament. Although they haven't all resulted in tries.

Re: well done Scotland
Scotland deserve credit Radge but the prop who passed the ball for the interception was under no pressure, if anything he had too much time and didn't know what to do - still a good performance from you guys but you have to win 2 games in the 6 Nations and that will be tough

I'm hoping we can press on. England first up is a toughie. England and Scotland will both be angry and eager to right wrongs for different reasons.

Re: well done Scotland
That Calcutta Cup should be even more special this year Radge and a win would set your boys up well. I see it as a 50/50 and it should be an absolute belter as Bill would've said
