Retiring from international rugby??
Who are the players retiring from international or likely to have played their last game?
Can you list players for every country?

Sonny Bill, really? I'm guessing he's going back to boxing/rugby league? He's pretty much done everything in Union.

Sonny Bill?
Mealamu joins a host of other New Zealand greats in calling it quits after the World Cup, with Dan Carter, Ma'a Nonu, Conrad Smith, Tony Woodcock already making their decisions and captain Richie McCaw expected to follow suit.
Priestland isn't technically retiring either.

Well technically none of them are retirements as they are still playing club rugby, But I thought this was international.

Not sure about that, he's off to play international 7s next year. I don't think he's decided (or at least made public) what he's doing after that. Might fancy his chances of being an AB starter against the Lions in 2017 and at the WC in 2019.
But anyway:
Mealamu
Woodcock
C Smith
Carter
Nonu
McCaw - no announcement yet
Franks ? - one or both off to France
Kaino ?

With Nonu and Conrad going, I'd be surprised if SBW did step down.

He'd still be playing international rugby, at sevens...

As for likely to have played their last game, well for Wales hopefully that's James Hook.

Yes, but we are talking about 15 a side. Unless you can still play for the 15's national team and play 7's.

Depends if it clashes with the rugby season i guess. It's best we have a kiwi explain it. While we're on this subject I believe Quade Cooper fecked off Toulon to re-sign with the ARU for the purpose of playing Sevens at the Olympics.

Jeez, is this a thing? XV Players becoming Olympians? Hope we don't follow suit. The Sevens boys have done a good job all by their lonesome

Re: Retiring from international rugby??
From this list which I mostly took from the suggestions above, who really wants them at your club?
Preistland Yes
Michalak yes
Mealamu no
Woodcock no
C Smith yes
Nonu yes
McCaw not sure, he is pretty broken and shows many of the signs of a player heading towards his finale
Franks mas-a-menos
Kaino yes
POC no, I am afraid he has given his all, and that's a lot
Carter - no. he's out for one big payday that he will likely never complete.
Matfield - maybe, what's left?
Woodcock - no
Nick Easter - he could join an over 35 league

Re: Retiring from international rugby??
Well when you see that Big Phil Vickery has put off retirement now for another two years at least, I think you're right. These grizzled old players can handle a long career shift.lostinwales wrote:I am sure Easter has another 10 years in him

Re: Retiring from international rugby??
For England, I think will be:
Officially retired from internationals before the 6Ns:
Easter
Wigglesworth?
Parling?
(Burgess)
Put out to grass:
Davy Wilson
Haskell
Barrett
Webber
Hartley? - For me it's either him coming back as first choice or not at all.
Over the next 2 or 3 years we'll see the end of Robshaw, Wood, Brown, Care, Foden (Croft and Cipriani from the squad fringes)
