Callum Smith v Rocky Fielding
First topic message reminder :
Afternoon all,
Who's watching this at the weekend? Predictions anyone?
I actually think it's going to be a lot tighter fight than most are suggesting. I'm hoping for a fight of the year candidate.
Cheers.

The lad deserves one after that, can't see Eddie wanting to take the risk though.

Re: Callum Smith v Rocky Fielding
Luckily for me the dinner party is cancelled.
Great fight, terrible stoppage. The guy was badly hurt. But he was hit on the back of the head to put him down. For me it shouldn't have been a knockdown and he should have had chance to recover. At the very least he gets a standing count.
At least Eddie was honest about the stoppage... But that may have been a bit of 'I smell a froch groves style rematch'. Wembley anyone?

Is Ricky Burns in an eliminator by any chance?

British referees are a disgrace and that idiot is right up there with Ian John Lewis. I can't believe he stopped it then. No sense without a count. Inept.

To be honest milky It was a 10-8 round and Cardle wins...
But it did stink..

Why would Cardle have won if it was a 10-8 round Truss? Dodd was up by 4 on two of the cards.

No arguments there truss... The lad deserved to lose a disputed split decision though! Maybe this result sells a few more rematch tickets!

Why is Sims telling Burns to get inside? He's a 5'10 pure boxer against a 5'5 brawler. Why the hell is he forehead to forehead?!

Just rewound and listened to it again.
He was up on 2 cards.
On one he was up by 4 rounds.
On the other he was up by 1.
With a 10-8 in the last Cardle would have won an SD.
This Burns fight is dire.

Burns' long range work, that took him to titles in two different weights, hasn't been the same since he left Nelson. He may not have beaten Crawford but I was extremely impressed by his jab in that fight; it made a very, very good fighter in Crawford look unimpressive at times.

For a short fighter King is very poor on the inside....
Problem is he isn't much better on the outside...

I can't see Burns beating Flanagan based on recent performances.
Just wondering, do you guys reckon Terry Flanagan is better than a peak Ricky Burns? Whenever I watch Flanagan something about his work reminds me of Burns when he was champ.

I think Flanagan beats Burns easily now, back at Burns peak i still think Terry would have edged it

Wouldn't be surprised to see Eddie feed a fading Burns to Luke Campbell towards the back end of next year.

I think Fielding beats Smith tonight. Something about Smith doesn’t add up for me. Fielding KO.

Got a similar feeling. Can't see what everybody is seeing in Smith to be calling him "the best prospect in the world", or something to that effect, as they were last year. Then again, haven't seen much in Fielding either, apart from the fact that he seems to be able to pull one punch KO power from nowhere.

Re: Callum Smith v Rocky Fielding
Well what can I say....
The first fight was an absolute cracker. Dodd winning handily by 3 on my card gets stopped with just over a minute left......and have to say I didn't agree with that. Should have got an 8 count minimum there.
The Burns fight? He is so far passed it. Just retire buddy. What a dog awful scrap that was just there.
Never the less hoping for a cracker in the main. Feeling a smith stoppage late but wouldn't be surprised to see a fielding super uppercut end things randomly.
Who knows....who's kidding who?

Have to agree with HH, I remember people saying he was the best of the Smith brothers but certainly haven't see people say he's the best prospect in the world.

Smith's excellent body punching will be the difference...Fielding always looks fleshy ..
I can see a body shot ending it !!

Couldn't agree more. Said earlier I can smith winning this based on his body work. Fielding looks fleshy and always will hold his hands high and leaves that area for a good hook.....smith seems to have a great one......

Us Brits give Germany stick but we're hardly any better when it comes to dodgy refs and judges.
Dodd was denied what I'm sure would of been the pinnacle of his career.

Makes for a hard luck story but he wasn't denied anything, unless he came roaring back to drop/stop Cardle the knockdown itself cost him the fight.

I imagine he'll make more money from the rematch than he ever expected to make in his entire career when he first laced up the gloves.

Not sure hammer he was 4 up on 2 score cards and 1 up on another so even with the knockdown he would have definitely won a split decision.

I thought Dodd would of still won on the cards but if not, fair enough.
A joke from the ref though!
