The Golden Bagel Award
This is given every year to the person who dishes out the most bagels from 1st Jan to the ATP wtf, who is a top 8 player, no davis cup matches...
The most is 06 Fedex, who dole out 18, and 19 for the whole year.
Novak was on course to set a new record. He had 10 before RG! However hes only given out 2 since, so hes on 12. That record hence looks set to stay.
More awards coming soon at the ATP WTF, im sure ill watch them with no cynicism at all...

Re: The Golden Bagel Award
I'm on tenterhooks waiting to find out who's won the Stefan Edberg award and the fans favourite award this year.
No idea who it will be.
No idea who it will be.

Re: The Golden Bagel Award
Nominees for the Edberg are:
Ferrer
Nadal
Anderson
Federer
ATP doing a stellar job as always of nominating outside the top 10...
Would love it to be Anderson but obviously it won't be.

I was just thinking that the only thing I like about these awards is that they usually motivate Socal to some of his best work!LuvSports! wrote:Socal loves this award.

In fairness, it has gone from an award which had a nice feel about in a professional era to a bit of a joke, which is a shame.

Thought there may have been some recognition for the player who got off his couch at home to give the audience some exhibition tennis to watch one Sunday last November at the ATP's flagship event.

Or as Andy might say with the camera tracking him as he walks back to his mark after losing a point "No f**king recognition"

Re: The Golden Bagel Award
They have....... but the votes are open as far as I know. Obviously the tennis players on the circuit don't know as much as we do but there's some reason causing them to vote for the same guy every year. What is it they can't see that we do?Born Slippy wrote:HM Murdock wrote:I was just thinking that the only thing I like about these awards is that they usually motivate Socal to some of his best work!LuvSports! wrote:Socal loves this award.

The list of ATP award winners for 2015 is on ATP site:

There aren't any surprises...

I'm sure I read that Tim Smyczek had been nominated, he just wasn't important enough to be mentioned in the "also nominated" list.Born Slippy wrote:Nominees for the Edberg are:

I guess it depends who classes as an ATP player. If its the top 50 then I would give it a lot more credence than if its, say, anyone with an ATP ranking.

The article I was referring to was from October and didn't list him. Its normally only 4 players from memory.

Hmm, well oddly he thought he was nominated: https://www.facebook.com/timsmyczek/posts/10153372415593411Born Slippy wrote:YvonneT wrote:

I don't think there can be a strong argument against Federer winning whatever number of years he has - he's not perfect but it's rare for him to do anything unsporting. But it would be nice to at least promote some of excellent examples of good sportmanship outside of the top players - maybe it would lead some people to start following more Challengers or even just the 250's that don't attract the top players.
