surrey vs gloucestershire & hampshire twenty/20
Chris Adams has named a fourteen man squad for the opening two fixtures of the Friends Life t20 competition. The Surrey Lions face Gloucestershire at The Kia Oval on Thursday and Hampshire at The Rose Bowl on Friday.
Notably the squad features the inclusion of Surrey’s new acquisition, Dirk Nannes
The recently capped Jade Dernbach doesn’t appear in the fourteen after his call up to the England squad for the second Test at Lord’s, but Pakistani Yasir Arafat returns after a slight hamstring injury.
If Arafat and Nannes take the field together, Surrey will boast two of the top five wicket takers in T20 history on the same side.
Spinning all-rounders Chris Schofield (allowed to mention him in this thread)and Matthew Spriegel return to the squad, as does Gary Wilson, fresh from International duty with Ireland.
The full Surrey Lions squad to face Gloucestershire at the Kia Oval on Thursday 2nd June and Hampshire at The Rose Bowl on Friday June 3rd is:
Rory Hamilton-Brown (Captain)
Steven Davies (Wicket Keeper)
Jason Roy
Tom Maynard
Zander de Bruyn
Matthew Spriegel
Gareth Batty
Chris Schofield
Gary Wilson
Tim Linley
Yasir Arafat
Dirk Nannes
Matthew Dunn
Tom Jewell
jade dernbach has been added to the squad for the hampshire game after being released by england

So much firepower with the bat this year.
Rory, Davies, Roy and Maynard could pummel the opposition!

What do we think, Jewell/Dunn/Wilson to miss out? gives us 3 seamers and 3 spinners with 5 good batsmen plus Spriegel and Schofield to hit lower down the order. Feeling positive about this one, especially as Gloucestershire aren't the force they used to be.

hi carrot i think the 3 you choose will miss out for the 1st game and maybe the 2nd if we win well.i think dunn after today has the best chance of playing out of them 3

I have to say that I honestly don't know much about Dunn in terms of his pace, is he more of a Meaker or a Dernbach? I would sady that although his pace could go for more runs, Linley's accuracy and recent good form keeps him ahead of Dunn for the first game at least.

Extremely happy, JimBob. Fine work. Although you've only been with us a short time, JimBob, I'm sure you'll get a very good first appraisal.
Very hard to choose the 3 to miss out but my guess - assuming Yasir is fit to go - is Jewell (he'll get a chance to sparkle later in the tournament ), Batty and Dunn.
Going tomorrow, chat after that.

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire & hampshire twenty/20
Interesting to see whether Spriegel plays, or more likely how he gets on. He's had an excellent CB40 with the bat. I have a feeling that needs time to play himself in before launching the fireworks. I think he will play, but we may find that he's not quite so adept at scoring quickly from the beginning.
I think that Jewell, Wilson and Dunn are the ones most likely to miss out. Hopefully all our bowlers will come to the party

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire & hampshire twenty/20
JimBob - I originally had Wilson in my 3 to miss out rather than Batty.
However, I thought we could do with an extra batsman and Wilson did reasonably this week for Ireland against Pakistan. We have a shedload of possible bowlers (I think de Bruyn will bowl tomorrow) and Batty's form with bat and ball has fallen off recently.
All thoroughly worked out and no doubt entirely wrong!

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire & hampshire twenty/20
Wilson, Jewell and Schofield.
Batty is probably the more reliable bowler and Schofield's batting is not that much better to justify a place. Jewell or Dunn? Yesterdays performance will probably give him the edge. Wilson, not quite good enough to force a place in the top six. Will probably miss tonight but try tomorrow.

Re: surrey vs gloucestershire & hampshire twenty/20
I'm hoping for two wins out of two to nget us off to a flyer. Unfortunately I'm working tonight but will be online for the Hampshire game. Team should be
Hyphen
Davies
Roy
Maynard
De Bruyn
Wilson
Spriegal
Batty
Arafat
Nannes
Dunn
Jewell, Scholfield and the viscount to miss out. Though I would have liked to have seen Lancefield in instead of Wilson, he had a decent first season last year and can hit the ball miles.

Jimbob
Schofield can be useful in one day cricket picks up a few wickets ( though to many are catches on the boundry rope)
I just hate it when he gets anywhere near our four day team as he has not taken a cc wicket since 2006
Nannes looking a good signing already

What do you think of our lineup, I think we are a bowler to many, Arafat,Nannes,Linely,Batty and Spriegal could have covered the twenty overs letting us play an extra batsman instead of Schofield (Lancefield possibly)????
