First topic message reminder :

Everyone moans about why we have professional politicians (nobody more than me) But "front runner" Trump last night shows why we do have professional politicians..

"We should ban all Muslims coming to America...because we don't know what their attitude is !!"........

This naive banding of all Muslims together may work with the religious right-apple-pie republicans but it's highly inflammatory and won't play well with the floaters.... the sensible GOPers.... or any one with an ethnic background..

It's not nazi Germany.....

Shame is with Iowa coming up.... the guy was winning according to the the GOP polling..........

As with all non professional politicians...Trump talks too much...

He won't be hammered...Because America is scared right now...

These shootings coupled with 9/11 and other atrocities means there is a deep mistrust of anything Islam...We are an insular nation...

Hilary is also tainted...

Trump isn't xenophobic he's trying to secure a ride to the play offs..

Hilary will win but Trump will make it close because he can like Obama stir up the disillusioned -with-politicians types and republicans won't vote for Hilary..and higher taxes..

Rubio will get the nod anyway..

I imagine non-muslim hispanics and blacks will be as worried as anyone else..

Republicans have always polled low with hispanics and blacks anyway.....

However he's not really a republican so he's bound to attract non voters who are sick of the Washington bubble....

He's also polling better in Florida with hispanics than the other candidates..

Obama only beat Romney by 51-49% in Pennsylvania and narrowly won Florida.....50.1 to 49.13......These are two of the three real bellwether states worth following...

Ohio will be a problem............But he wins the other two I imagine he wins the election..

Cognoscenti believe that the Republicans won't nominate him. Of course the republicans dont want to and are publicly disavowing him in some cases, but if they deduce he has popular support - i'd say he has - they might just have to.

If elected he can be controlled by his party and become a puppet like George.

Its a scary thought - i live in Nort America - but after Obama and his Liberal views on war, health care, guns and religion, a Republican President who is a liability is a better option than a Democratic apparently.

What worries me most is that i can guarantee you even before taking office, that trump will be a War President.

The thing about Trump is that he probably doesn't beat anyone in the Republican field in a 1-on-1 contest, but the chances of a single opposing candidate emerging (quickly) are pretty minimal. The only one that's been able to create any sort of seperation is Cruz, and the party might actually like him less than Trump. By the time a winner emerges from the Bush/Rubio/Kasich/Christie fight, it might be too late for them.

True. And as I say, the only person i see giving Hillary a run for her money is Trump.

The backlash may be that if they do nominate him, enough sensible Americans will come forward and do the right thing….but that is where I start to have real doubts.

They can be very significant..

Most of the republican card carriers are anti-gay marriage but swing voters and soft democrats tend to be in favor..

Bloomberg poll 55% - Yes to gay marriage........36% - No..

As a rule "usually" you have to oppose it to get the GOP nomination but you're swimming against public opinion.....

most of the policies Trump talks about are unenforceable...for example the Mexican wall. the Mexicans will just add tariffs on U.S. goods.

the Middle East countries will do something about the Muslim ban.

point is big business will suffer and I don't think big business will allow Trump to do whatever he says, now.

it is also possible that he is just spilling words without meaning them.

Would surely be a mistake for Trump to actually pull out of the debate. As Truss says not being there will open the door to other candidates, and it also gives off the impression of him being unable to stand the heat from Mrs Kelly.
