The Last Film watched (CONTAINS STAR WARS SPOILERS!!)
First topic message reminder :
I watch two films over the last few days
Seventh Son: Absolute tosh, it felt like a bad D&D film from SyFy
The Wedding Ringer: It was a fun movie, predictable but fun, "Who the hell are these guys, it's like the Goonies grew up and became r@pists"

It was called AWOL when it first came out. One of Van Damme's best.
Van Damme's movies were/are (in)famous for showing the same move three or four times from different angles to make it look like he's all-action, usually a spinning back kick. Bloody hate Van Damme, he's rubbish. There's a similar sort of underground fighting movie with Michael Jai White called "Blood and Bone" which, whilst still average, it better than anything Van Damme's done. In fact, "Damage" with Stone Cold Steve Austin is better than anything Van Damme's ever done.
Some of the Smirnoff Ice work he did was quite commendable.

I prefer his late 80's stuff to anything Steve Austin has done, tbh.
As for his fighting. Wasn't he a ballet dancer before turning his hand to fighting/films?

Still it will all be worthwhile when we're surrounded by the comforting glow of C.C 3.0 which I'm sure Tina's dealing with at this very second and not carrying out a terrorist attack that he's been duped into by Shah.

Tino has to be accompanied by a bodyguard before asking his son to do his homework. You think i'd use a sissy like that to liberate my freedom fighting brothers?

I am sorry but yes it wasn't too clear. Maybe the whole doing the splits with each foot on a different truck is too commonplace for someone of your obvious talents, or alternatively you were having issues expressing yourself.
Personally I thought it was pretty good and given the standard of the majority of his films (apart from, say, kick boxer ) something of a career highlight

Time cop and sudden death were quite decent. Although sudden death was very similar to threat level midnight.

Double impact is shockingly cheesy (but good for it) on another watch through. Timecop's one of the best he's done although go watch 6 bullets as that was pretty decent.
Dave
Blood and Bone is cheesy, badly done but brilliant for it. Arena's a pretty good one if you like fighting flicks as well (new one) although Jai White is really really really bad in Universal Soldier - the return (no don't go and watch it)

That's the one Dave. Sit back, take brain out, ignore plot and watch people kick 10 bells out of each other. Plus the ending is stoopid as but like that all you can eat buffet you just have to go back for more ha ha

Re: The Last Film watched (CONTAINS STAR WARS SPOILERS!!)
No Country for Old Men - watched it when it originally came out and thought "Ermm, ok" so watched it again and thought, "Ermmm ok" Decent enough performances from the Likes to Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin but the film lacks a certain something (possibly a satisfactory ending). Have started reading McCarthy's novel so at this moment in time can't say how true to the original the Coen's were in bringing it to life on screen.
On the whole, I was left disappointed...but most things disappoint me these days

I hated that film Dave, just didn't see any point in it and felt i'd thoroughly wasted my time with it. Then again it might have just been a bit too clever for me :-)
Commando - Top class Arnie cheese.
Started watching the Hobbit but just cannot get into it (felt the same with the book too).
The Cove - I watched this a few weeks back but it's heartbreaking, breaking things inducing and just incredible all at the same time. Brilliant documentary that should be made compulsory viewing in my eyes, need to see blackfish now.
Catching the Friedmans - Holy poopie, this was a really weird one. Another must for anyone intrested in 'possible' miscarriages of justice but also some really really creepy stuff.

Re: The Last Film watched (CONTAINS STAR WARS SPOILERS!!)
Have downloaded the "Infernal Affairs" trilogy - have been meaning to watch it for years but after watching films like "Hard Boiled" and "The Killer is found that one dead Chinese dude looks very much like another and the body count in these films is generally so high that, blink and you'll miss what's happening.
Have also downloaded a shedload of films based on real life serial killers. I gather the quality of the movies ranges for Oscar worthy to plain f*cking awful but I'll work my way through them.

Watched The Man from UNCLE last night.
After you get over the stageyness of Guy Ritchies style, I actually really enjoyed it. Thought it was better than Spectre.
Would like to see a sequel and am quite enjoying Guy Ritchies output.

How long will it be before you discuss a film on here without mentioning whether it is better, worse or on a par with Spectre?

Watched Suicide Squad yesterday. What can I say? About half way through it I was wanting it to end. The DC universe is a long way behind the Marvel universe.
Today saw Ghostbusters. Waste of money but not as bad as Suicide Squad. Still wonder why they remade it. I can only guess it's because someone thought that by having better special effects it would make more money.

The Nice Guys. I quite enjoyed this, as anyone who has seen any of Shane Black's previous films or those he has written they will know what to expect, but the film raises enough laughs and traps along well enough to not drag. Ryan Gosling is pretty funny as a thick as porridge Private Eye and Russell Crowe shows a previously never shown gift for comedy, although he is very much in the straight man role.
It is also better than Spectre.

Jason Bourne.
If you're a fan of the Bourne films you won't be disappointed. This had loads of action and was shot in many locations.
The only complaint I have is it has gone a bit too Hollywood wrt explosions etc compared to the original. Too much shakey camera too . So while not reaching the standard of the first 2 Bourne films, it's still very good and worth seeing. Most enjoyable film in a while.

Re: The Last Film watched (CONTAINS STAR WARS SPOILERS!!)
Watched Suicide Squad last week and although it's ok, it's a bit dull, and there wasn't nearly enough character development for any of them except Harley Quinn. Some say that DC are a long way behind Marvel, but I was less bored in this than I was watching Captain America: Civil War. Still, it's the almost de rigeur Superhero/Supervillain plot, with big explosions, one or two characters in peril and lots of personal issues being dealt with. Oh, and there's a "credits" scene. Whoop-di-doo. Not one for my DVD collection. 6/10
Tonight's film was Mike & Dave Need Wedding Dates. It's crass, a bit naff and formulaic but once you get past that, it's actually quite a good laugh. You don't go to watch a film like this for the great acting (there isn't any) but you do go for silly jokes and crazy stuff going on. There's a bit less than the trailer depicts and it's a touch predictable but it's a good enough effort and the jokes are quite funny. It is however, terrifying how much Adam Devine's face looks like David Hasselhoff's in some shots... 6/10
