Re: European Tour 2016 - Dubai
I see Ernie is promising to deliver Rory to the SA Open next year . . . . .
Disappointing field this time round though, but hope that #1432 in the owgr has a good week, Trevor Immelman.

Rory? As in Sabbatini.
I wonder when is the last time he has played a tournament in his homeland.
Edit: Just looked it up, 2008 S.A. Open. In the meantime, he has played in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, and Scotland.

What's wrong with that, South Africa is in Europe, and so are all those places!

Who needs Sabbatini when you've got Jaco Van Zyl? He's been on fire for 4 months, leading with a 65 today.

Westwood in South Africa right now, but watching the test in Cape Town this week.
I bet Stokes and De Villiers could challenge Rory in a long driving competition.

Poor start for Andy Sullivan's title defence: 75 and about 105th.
Stokes is something else!

I think he's some pressed trouser wearing cucumber sandwich muncher who loafs about on a cricket pitch all day.

Are you simply dense Mac? Stokes and De Villiers are Cricketers in the Sith Efrica V England Cricket test currently going on in Sith Efrica, and both are batting very well, i.e. smashing it miles.

I wonder which of golf and cricket is found to be more boring to watch by those who are fans of neither?

Re: European Tour 2016 - Dubai
It's a good point actually Mac. Both are quite good fun to play as most sports are, but when you think about it, most sports are pretty boring to watch. At least I think they are.
By definition really, anything you aren't into, is pretty boring.

Stonking field for Abu Dhabi. Counted at least 17 x Top 50 golfers, including Rory, Stenson, Kaymer, Willett, Wiesberger, Grace, Thongchai, Knox etc, plus Fowler and Spieth.

Re: European Tour 2016 - Dubai
That will be a great tournament with a boat load of OWGR points on offer. Makes you wonder how valuable big shanes break really is when the rest of the golf world is getting such a big head start. If Spieth feels the need to tee it up this week and get some Middle east action then you probably need to do that too.

Re: European Tour 2016 - Dubai
I think Shane is playing in San Diego that week; he'll probably then play at least 3 out of 4 West Coast tournaments then.
Seems he's doing things arse backwards to me, but the proof of the pudding will be in his results.

I expect Jordan Spieth thought he might become the first University of Texas "educated" 22-year-old to win today. Looks like Brandon Stone beat him to it.
Just the latest prodigy to come off the Ernie Els conveyor belt. Could be a big career ahead of him.

Buried deep in the field for this event is Steve Surry; son of one of the former posters on here. He plies his trade on South Africa's Sunshine Tour so hopefully he can buy Mum an impressive Mother's Day gift in a couple of months.

I'm still alive and kicking, although I've not hit a golf ball for a couple of years.
Thanks to Davie for the heads up via Twitter that I've not been forgotten! Good to see many familiar names still posting on here.
Steve really enjoys playing in SA - the relaxed lifestyle is perfect for him! Fingers crossed that I will still be on leaderboard watch duties on Saturday.

Not on leaderboard watch for the weekend - stone cold putter apparently!
Steve was in the Taylormade truck at the same time as Ernie Els, and had a chat with him - said that he was a really nice guy. Always good when boyhood heroes live up to expectations.

He usually plays Jan - March and then Sept- Dec. There are too many breaks between tournaments during the summer months to make it viable to stay in SA.
A pro who moved his attachment to Cumberwell Park last year got his European Tour card at Q School - Laurie Canter. Will be looking out for his progress - he has made the cut at each event so far.

Jamie Donaldson has put himself out of commission for a little while by fighting a chainsaw. http://www.bbc.com/sport/wales/35343180 Cue conversation on stupid injuries

Well, he's got his eyes close together like an Irishman, so I imagine he might have been holding the wrong end.

It looks like he has had to have his pinkie sewn back on. Ouch. Why would a pro golfer go near a chainsaw?

He seems to indicate he'll be playing in Dubai. Looks doubtful based on the pics. But thankfully not as bad as Greg Norman's similar accident a year or two ago.

Not quite sure why the European Tour has pandered to the media hype and grouped Fowler with McIlroy and Spieth?

"would the European Tour hype a tourist rather than one of its own?"
I don't think there are any Qatari's or united arab emiratians in the field.
