Socials/Games/Get togethers sticky
Guys/Gals
Lots of threads get hijacked by people that are arranging various gatherings (I've been guilty of it recently myself!) so I thought a sticky to keep them all in one place would be a good idea. This way, threads can stay on topic.

Broadstone has a scratch open for Cat 1's on 11th Sept if anyone is interested? Top quality track and plenty of hotels and B&B's in the Bournemouth area. Quite a few girlies still wandering around town in short skirts as well at that time of year

Trying here as I can't seem to get a PM to deliver to Doon the Water. Still all set for the Darley in the morning. I'll be there about 8.30 Doon.

Match report
Jas, Doon and Doon's pal Deadly D against Darley Golf Course.
Jas played some pretty steady stuff, even managed to be putting for a birdie on the notorious 5th hole. Slight mid round blip and strong finish for a pretty decent 34 points.
Doon was recovering from a bad case of the 'both ends at once problem''. Other excuse was first game for 5 weeks.
Started badly had a poor mid section and finished OKish for 34 points.
Deadly D off 19 plus a mulligan [local system] explained that he also had not played for 5 weeks so will probably be embarassing....... He was, with 24 points for first nine. Steadied down for a total of 39 points.
After match coffee thought bubbles.
Jas....How could I have played so well and only get 34 points.
Doon.....How on earth did I manage to get 34 points playing like that.
Deadly D....HA HA stuffed them.
Good company, decent course/weather.

Re: Socials/Games/Get togethers sticky
I concur with Doon's pretty accurate match report. After the discussion about the 5th on another thread, I would have made a mid round post had the birdie putt dropped . Also had an eagle putt on the 4th which I left a frustrating 2 inches short.
I suspect that deadly D will be off a much lower handicap by the time I return. Had Doon been playing a bit more regular over the past month I would no doubt have walked a away with the wooden spoon.
Big +ve for me for the whole 3 rounds I played up home though is that I appear to have laid my putting demons to rest (93 putts with only 1 3putt in 54 holes). All from having a custom fit and an inch and a half lopped off the shaft.
A final word on the course...For a fraction of the cost of the big name links courses Darley presents a stiff test. It looks straightforward for the first 2 or 3 holes then it starts asking questions. The greens weren't fast but they were consistent and fairly true. It may not be pristinely manicured but I wouldn't
expect that. Thoroughly enjoyed the day, the course and the company.

I've always enjoyed the Darley, much prefer it to it's more illustrious sister Lochgreen. As you say, very gentle opening 2 holes then starts to come alive from 4th onwards.
Glad to hear the putting is coming together. I putted like an absolute eejit on Saturday and somehow managed to stay in the buffer.

The Vale at Evesham?
Played it years ago and it was OK, don't know what it's like now though.

It's all good JAS; perhaps us lesser mortals can learn from your putting excellence Rolls would be a good bet, or St Pierre possibly. Broadway is about 15 miles from me, so that would be an excellent bet. I've heard Vale of Evesham is pretty good, though never played it.

Hi Jas
Good to hear the putting is still good, looked very solid at Darley.
Re your match, my daughter rates Rolls of Monmouth has one of her top 10 courses. St Pierre is good, not sure if I have my geography right but is Tewkesbury Park in the triangle.

Doon: Tewkesbury is in triangle, but it's a sh1te course tbh. Puckrup also in Tewks is the better course. The 2 in FoD (Coleford) aren't bad either; Bells and Forest Hills

Silly me.
I was actually thinking of Puckrup not Tewks.
Used to know the Pro there, looks like a good set up

Did anyone hear a loud banging & scraping noise last night?? It was the sound of the undercarriage clunking along the floor as the wheels came off the putting bus!!!
Bloody 5 (yes five!!) putted the first.
Never cease to be amazed at how, just when you think you have parts of this game sussed, the golfing Gods take great pleasure in smacking you back into line.

Yes cracking few days and an opportunity for me to play Iyour excellent course, spend 2 days hacking my way through the trees at Meyrick (think I'll swap my driver for a Ray Mears stylee machete next time I venture onto that course) and sample Queens Park too albeit as a spectator. Great to meet two of the leg ends of 606; now Jas' putting has gone breasts skyward I propose a Midlands meet. PS - Drive is right the women are hot in Bournemouth

North Weald mens 36 hole scratch/handicap event on Thurs 21st July. The course is just off the north side of the M25 so quite accessable for lots of people. Handicap limit is 18 for this one.
So, anyone fancy a day out?

For the North Weald I am now entered... I suspect D4S will be there... Interest from OldShanker and SmithersJones... I am working on my uncle who is a handy little 12 handicapper.
It really is worth the entry fee. It's a nice little track with a links like feel in places. The greens are running really well. It's easy to get to. And for the entry fee you get more than your moneys worth as it's more than that to play a single round.
The prizes look pretty good as well with 300 quid going to the scratch and handicap winners I think.
Come on. Call the clubhouse and get an entry in. 01992 522 118

Excellent chance for a meet up, easy location for lots of us, cheap entry and high handicap limit. No excuses, hope to see loads of you there

Not many trees in play here JPX. And where they are it's usually OOB.
Think links with very deep rough and gorse dotted around the place rather than parkland.

Cheers LJ. Spoke to the bubbly sounding lass on reception earlier and she said the numbers need to increase for the event to take place. I mentioned you and said we were collectively trying to increase the numbers. All I hope is I don't bump into that dodgy bird from Hockley I was a few years ago. She's got more ferking connections than a meccano set

I'm intending to play Drive. I'll be putting my application in next week (when I get paid cos I'm brassic). Mind you if I play as horribly as I did in my club championship this wkend, the only thing I'll be threatening is the folks on adjoining fairways. My 36 holes at the wkend were a complete car crash

Hmmm cunning on the course.. do you have any say in the pairings for this event being as half the field could come from this forum? Would be good to be in a group with at least one of these fine people. In Bournemouth I ended with Fat blerk and Ben Kingsley's character out of 'Sexy Beast.....'

My app gets posted tomorrow. Had a squiz at the course layout. Thankfully a bit more of a gentle intro than the opener at Meyrick Had to allow myself a little chortle when I looked at your home page and saw who was credited for co-designing the original layout

Not wishing to teach an elderly female relative to suck edible oval objects, but just had a quick browse at www.golfempire.co.uk. I'm sure a number of you know about this site already, but it's pretty comprehensive and could be very useful for arranging regional meets around organised events. Noticed there is a 36 holer at Broadway on 21st August which looks very reasonable and not far from me. Haven't played the course yet, but have heard from a number of members at my course that's it's pretty good..

I spoke to LJ last night, he will be working in Chertsey for a few months starting soon, he asked if anyone fancies an afternoon/evening game somewhere around the top of the M3 area? I'm up for it but got a lot on at the moment so very dependant on dates for me.
If anyone has any possible dates/venues then speak now or forever hold your peace..........
