Socials/Games/Get togethers sticky
First topic message reminder :
Guys/Gals
Lots of threads get hijacked by people that are arranging various gatherings (I've been guilty of it recently myself!) so I thought a sticky to keep them all in one place would be a good idea. This way, threads can stay on topic.

JAS mentioned the Trevose open, I'm away on holiday otherwise I would have gone down for it. Decent track, should be a good event.
Got your start times for Broadway yet?

Yep, golfing myself into oblivion in Myrtle Beach, 9 rounds booked in 11 days, might squeeze in another couple if I feel the need

Hey No Shanks, it's the Westlake Trophy. I am playing it that also as it local to me. Won't be able to make a night out in Newquay but sure you will have a good time. Not too much sauce though before that as it's a 36 holed. Hope weathers good as love playing Trevose as it's a great track.

Hi Matelot, I'm looking forward to the Westlake, hope I've made the draw. I've also booked St Enodoc for the Friday (11.00am) and Burnham and Berrow on the Monday (12.20) to help break the homeward journey. Undecided about what to do Sat, the golfing obsessive in me says "play Perranporth" but the competition brain says "take a rest from golf the day before a 36 holer"
Hopefully see you at Trevose but if you fancy a knock round St Enodoc or B&B maybe even Perranporth on the Sat let us know.

Hi Matelot; JAS and I girding up our loins to hit Newquay. Don't know if I've made it in to the Trevose Open yet, but planning golf plus whatever trouble I can get myself into over the course of the days I am down, with my 'wingman' JAS there for support on and off the course. Feel free to join us if you want a knock somewhere

Re: Socials/Games/Get togethers sticky
Hi d4s and nst, won't be able to join you for any games over that weekend due to Westlake being 36 holed and wifey wants some retail therapy. Draw for Westlake came out today, made it in and off at 8:08 off the 10th first round. Se your looking to play perranporth. Played it today in 36 cornish golf union scratch 4somes. It is in very good nic. Can I offer you another links alternative that you will enjoy? Mullion about 25 mins from Newquay is a lovely track with some great holes, greens and views. Think green fee is fairly cheap also at the moment. Anyway hope you are in and see you at Trevose.

Don't panic, we've not set a date yet for any get-together and it certainly won't be the Westlake weekend as I'll be away on holiday (otherwise I would have entered it). Hopefully looking at sometime towards the end of October or early November, before the winter really sets in.

I've also made in to Westlake Matelot...off at 8.32 on the 10th. NST has made it onto to the reserve list. Looking forward to the whole weekend...you've now got me thinking about whether to play Mullion or Perranporth on the Sat (with NST not being guaranteed a game Sunday I think we WILL defo be playing somewhere on the Sat).

Check out the site at www.mulliongolfclub.co.uk. Play par 4s and 5's off White(only yellows for par 3's but only 5 ids difference ). Holes 1-5 ease you into round, 6 to 12 are the roughies with 6,7,10 n 12 being good holes then a chance to score from 13 to 18. Only 6100 but course record still 64. Best time on a sat is 1030-1130 or 1530 are good times to go out and miss the bust tee times

As I said before, my parents were coming down the weekend of the Trevose open but they are coming down the weekend after instead as they are staying an extra day. If anybody wants a game in cornwall on the saturday I would be delighted to meet up - I can sign guests in at launceston for a tenner, although it is on the devon cornwall border so quite far away from Trevose. I can also have guests at Looe but the general concensus is that is not playing very well at the moment.

Yeah but he still did the press ups....at which point I thought "Poopie I have to match him and raise him" whilst the rest of the restaurant thought...."Muppet!!" :-D

Hi Jas and NST, just thought I'd let you you know the forecast is for a rough weekend here in Cornwall . That will make 2 rounds at Trevose a real test on Sunday. It's going to be a case of hanging in there I think. Shame, been looking forward to the Westlake Trophy for a couple of months now and was praying for some sort of crisp, calm autumn day. Will be a major test if it is a howling gale out there!

To the Scottish contingent......
Are you guys aware of any decent 'back to back' opens, say on a Sat/Sun that would make for a decent trip up to the motherland? A couple of decent 36 holers would be excellent.
I could be tempted, I'm sure wingman JAS would be up for it as well.

D4S, keep your eye on the SGU website. Opens section. The calender is a bit spartan at the moment understandably but come Feb/March the picture begins to become a bit clearer.
I play a lot of Opens so it would be good to get a quorum of 606ers in a few up here. Ban plays a few too, and I'm sure Mac could be persuaded if you can tear him away from his "Socialist Worker".

If Castle Stuart get the Scottish again, and if you're up for combining a 36 holer on the Saturday with a day ticket to watch Lukey defend what's his on the Sunday then the Black Isle open at F&R might be the ticket.
The only other 36er I played last year was the Alyth open, the following weekend a.k.a Open weekend.
I'm tempted to go for one of the Dornoch opens, as despite proximity and opportunity when growing up, I have never played there.
Tons to choose from though! - I'd love to expand my Fife and East Lothian portfolios (which both remain close to empty at the present).

Re: Socials/Games/Get togethers sticky
I do fancy doing Dornoch again this year (mainly to atone for last years shocker). Dornoch play it clever as they know they are in a remote place. I played an 18 holer on the Sunday but there had been an 18 hole 3ball team comp on the Saturday. Tag on a round at Castle Stuart and/or Nairn and a night on the sherbets in Inverness and you have a top class long weekend
Having said that my Pro says he wants to help me try and manage my schedule better next year and I'm guessing a trek up to Dornoch the week after Saunton is exactly the kind of thing he'll want me to avoid...we'll see.
There's always Troon week, I remember Doon mentioning it last time we played and my daughter has now moved to Monkton (about 2 miles from Troon).

troon week is great value for money.
if you need any practice rounds give me a shout. would be happy to help out.......ps ...i think our greens will be some of the best in the country next year so it should be well worth the trip.
