Fabian Gomez shot 62 to post 260 and set the target for popular pick Brandt Snedeker.  Snedeker had to the birdie the last to make a playoff and then promptly, well almost promptly, lost in that playoff after the second extra hole.  Not picking the winner is an unusual occurence for the Fantasy League but the next best picks finished tied for fifth, then seventh, and then ninth.  We did however have nine of the players that finished in a tie for thirteenth.  

With sixteen players in the scoring positions and still having nine picks left it's not hard to see why Davie, Eyetoldyouso, and GolferMartin remained in the top three spots.  Davie took overall victory after having five of his picks score points.  Eyetoldyouso and GolferMartin had four picks score points.  1GrumpyGolfer, McLaren, and TheCleaver had five of their picks score points.  Beninho, BobtheJob, Hibbz, Kwinigolfer, Owen10ozzy, and Raycastleunited also had four picks score points but high place finishes were in short supply.  BlueCoverman, I'm Never Wrong, and LadyPutt all had three picks score points.  EmmDee57, Pedro, SirBenson, and Super_Realist each had two picks score points while SetupDetermines had just the one pick score points.

Fabian Gomez's round was also the lowest of the day.

Welcome to the official start of the 2016 Fantasy League!  Boy do I wish I started it last week.  The first event of the Winter/Spring session sees the League remain in Hawaii after the Tournament of Champions and that maybe something to look for in your picks.  Since the Tournament of Champions moved to Hawaii 16 years ago, 11 winners of the Sony Open teed it up the week before.  Jimmy Walker did just that last year and the year before and is looking to be a three-peat winner, the first on the PGA Tour since Steve Stricker won the John Deere Classic 2009-2011.  Adam Scott is the highest ranked player as no one from the top 10 is staying on in Hawaii.  Former winners Russell Henley, Johnson Wagner, Mark Wilson, Ryan Palmer, Zach Johnson, K.J. Choi, Vijay Singh, and Jerry Kelly are also teeing it up.

There are three Categories where you will need pick three players, plus reserve, from each one.  There are bonus points available if you get all of your picks through in any category.  Get all 9 picks through and you get an even bigger bonus.  It's all way down at the bottom in the scoring section if you are interested.

This is a full field with cut event, cut points will be available; see above.

RULES

Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 9 players as follows:

Pick 3 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.

Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).

If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.

Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores.  If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.

Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply or PM them to me.  Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.

Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.

Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament.  However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.

All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Under warm, sunny skies in Hawaii five players shot 63 to tie for the first round lead at seven under par.  Two of the five were picks; Kevin Kisner was the more popular pick with half the Fantasy League electing for Kisner, Brandt Snedeker was in a third of the Fantasy League selections.  Three Fantasy Leaguers doubled up on both of these players; Davie, Eyetoldyouso, and I'm Never Wrong are sitting high on the leaderboard right now.  Eleven others are just behind having picked one or the other and the rest are waiting to get off of the mark.

Vijay Singh, Morgan Hoffmann, and Ricky Barnes were the other three players to shoot 63.

We're in Abu Dhabi next week with the European Tour and then either Torrey Pines or Qatar. Qatar runs Wednesday to Saturday so could be a bit more challenging to get posted in good time.

Some 87 players made the cut at three under and due to that sizable number just over two thirds of Fantasy League picks are playing on Saturday.  Everyone earned a cut bonus, some more than others, three Fantasy Leaguers keep the whole set.  Davie, Eyetoldyouso, and GolferMartin are the ones with a full complement for the weekend and occupy the top spots on the leaderboard thanks to all those bonus points.  Hibbz and Raycastleunited came the closest to matching those three losing just the one pick but it wasn't even a near miss in reality.  Almost half the League, 1GrumpyGolfer, Beninho, BlueCoverman, BobtheJob, EmmDee57, McLaren, Pedro, SirBenson, and TheCleaver have seven picks left; McLaren and Pedro earned two cut bonuses from their seven picks.  Owen10ozzy, SetupDetermines, and Super_Realist all have six picks left while Kwinigolfer and LadyPutt each have five picks left.  I'm Never Wrong has just the four.

For a while it looked like 65 would be the low round score but later in the day Graham DeLaet shot 62 to take that honour and make the cut.   As Kwini mentioned earlier there will be a secondary cut after Saturday's play so those who just made the cut will need to play well to be included on Sunday.

Matt Kuchar finished in fine fashion with six straight birdies to take the low round honours in Hawaii. His round of 62 was the best of the day by two shots and propelled him up the leaderboard. His fine play also meant there were bonus points for six Fantasy Leaguers; 1GrumpyGolfer, Beninho, GolferMartin, Kwinigolfer, SirBenson, and TheCleaver.

To make the Top 10 Low Round scores players needed to shoot 65 and in total fifteen other players did just that. GolferMartin, Kwinigolfer, and TheCleaver had two other picks join Kuchar by scoring points. EmmDee57 had three picks shoot 65 or lower. 1GrumpyGolfer, Beninho, Davie, Eyetoldyouso, and SirBenson all had two picks score points for them. Everyone else bar I'm Never Wrong and LadyPutt had one pick score points.

With 87 players in the mix for the third round the secondary cut was at four under; seven picks packed their bags and left town disappointed.

GolferMartin's points haul sees him join Davie and Eyetoldyouso at the top of the leaderboard while everyone else seems to be playing for a Champions League spot.

Fabian Gomez shot 62 to post 260 and set the target for popular pick Brandt Snedeker. Snedeker had to the birdie the last to make a playoff and then promptly, well almost promptly, lost in that playoff after the second extra hole. Not picking the winner is an unusual occurence for the Fantasy League but the next best picks finished tied for fifth, then seventh, and then ninth. We did however have nine of the players that finished in a tie for thirteenth.

With sixteen players in the scoring positions and still having nine picks left it's not hard to see why Davie, Eyetoldyouso, and GolferMartin remained in the top three spots. Davie took overall victory after having five of his picks score points. Eyetoldyouso and GolferMartin had four picks score points. 1GrumpyGolfer, McLaren, and TheCleaver had five of their picks score points. Beninho, BobtheJob, Hibbz, Kwinigolfer, Owen10ozzy, and Raycastleunited also had four picks score points but high place finishes were in short supply. BlueCoverman, I'm Never Wrong, and LadyPutt all had three picks score points. EmmDee57, Pedro, SirBenson, and Super_Realist each had two picks score points while SetupDetermines had just the one pick score points.

Fabian Gomez's round was also the lowest of the day.
