Re: AO 2016 - Day 1
I do believe Kyle Edmund starts first thing on Court 10.

Got high hopes for Kyle this year. Think he'll end it in the top 50.
Maybe even top 30.

Hard to gauge with Kyle. He hasn't had any noteworthy results on the hard stuff. Hope he continues upwards and onwards.

He has got a decent first round draw so stands a good chance to progress and continue his climb up the rankings.

Kei starts with two volley winners and two huge forehand winners in the first 5 points.

First set to Edmund 6-1. Kei v Kohli locked at 4-4. Kei slightly on top so far.

Goffin seems to have recovered well, up 2 sets to 1, and a break.

So Edmund exits in five sets. Disappointing that he led 1-0 and 2-1 in sets but couldn't quite seal it.

Fed looked sharp this morning but the guy he was playing was hopelessly outmatched. Dolgo in the next round will give us more idea where he's at.

Kei also looked very good I thought. On that showing, he may be able to give Novak a bit of a game in the QF.
Chung looked to have a lot of promise. Obviously nowhere near Djokovic's level but will clearly be at least a top 20 player. Looked to have a solid all-round game.

Indeed, but he did look good. When he looks like that it's art; the variety and shot shapes are just beautiful.Born Slippy wrote:Fed looked sharp this morning but the guy he was playing was hopelessly outmatched. Dolgo in the next round will give us more idea where he's at.

Re: AO 2016 - Day 1
So all of the top 16 mens seeds in action got through without any issue. Number 17 (Paire) went out. I see the guy he lost to was a 19 year old American, currently ranked outside the top 300 (presumably the reciprocal wildcard recipient). The US does seem to suddenly have a crop of youngsters coming through.

Re: AO 2016 - Day 1
Dumb interview question number 1 for the tournament:
Q. Do you think it was good preparation for you today playing another left hander?
DARIA GAVRILOVA: Sorry?
Q. Kvitova is a left hander. Do you think it was good preparation today?
DARIA GAVRILOVA: Hradecker is a right-hander, just double backhand and forehand.
