I haven't seen it confirmed, and perhaps his latest injury has made them pause.

Gilchrist to Toulon would be a great move for both him and Scotland! He'll learn a lot being there and it frees up the Edinburgh berth for Toolis to continue his development!

It's good news not big news! Hate the hyperbole. Malcolm should have got 3 years as well but overall happy.
Grigg played a lot of 7's and looked like a solid squad player against Leinster. May be able to show more next year but really this was the year for a centre/wing to break through with the World Cup and injuries depleting Glasgow.

Yes quite. I still hold out hope for Junior to make the grade but, apart from Scotland 7s, he hasn't had much game time despite looking really good early season. For me he looks a more naturally dangerous attacker than Hughes and a good deal faster.

That's Tovey confirmed as signing on loan from the Dragons.
So basically we got rid of our Scottish reserve 10 and replaced him with a Welsh one...
The 26-year-old, who also has experience at full-back and centre, is a former Wales under-20 player who has spent the majority of his professional career with the Dragons.
Tovey spent two years with the Dragons Academy and made his professional debut against the Ospreys in April 2008. In May 2010 he was voted Young Player of the Year at the Welsh professional players awards.
The versatile back became the first ever Dragons player to get a try hat-trick in a competitive match, against Ulster in 2009, and then broke the record for points scored in a match against the Ospreys in the LV= Cup in January 2010 with two conversions and seven penalties to his name.
He had a brief spell at Cardiff Blues in season 2012/13 before returning to Dragons where he's ammassed 163 caps and 951 points.
So basically we got rid of our Scottish reserve 10 and replaced him with a Welsh one...

In a vacuum it is a strange one. Probably needed though the way Tonks was playing. Whatever it is, Edinburgh struggle with 10's. First Heathcote then Tonks completely lost confidence and now look good for lower table Aviva sides. Weir will probably have a terrible season then get signed by Newcastle when they come back up to be the next Andy Goode!

Just saw this. Tonks leaving had left the cupboard pretty bare. Does this mean Scott is out for the season and Burleigh's moving out to 12? Is Jade also injured or is this an indication Solly is packing him off soon too?

Perhaps, but I'd probably keep Burleigh at 10 and have Beard at 12 for now at least. Bit of a risk chucking in a brand new 10 with 5 must win games to go - surely he'll just be cover?
Te Rure hasn't played all season!

You're right, he must just be cover. It would be a heck of a risk actually playing him. He might be a WRU plant!

Tovey is a useful player actually. Good footballer. He hasn't managed to reach the levels predicted earlier in his career but he's a 10 that wants the ball in his hands. A useful contrast to Weir.

Agreed, very good player and a useful addition, imo. Sorry to say but it could well be a better signing than Weir.
Also, he is the quickest kicker i have ever seen, wont waste any time lol.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread XI - The Undiscovered Country
This is actually a very good signing for Edinburgh - I just assumed that it wasn't Tovey they were talking about but some academy kid.
Tovey is the rareist of all things in Wales - no, not a salad - an underrated player.
He is very consistent and his error count is low. He suffers from the usual curse of being a Welsh 10 whereby if you aren't the next Barry John the crowd will often be a bit disappointed with you.
I also think that Weir should be nervous about this.

He's not coming back after this true quote
"I wanted the club to move forward but I think it's gone backwards over the last three years."
Well said Tov. Wish you were playing Sunday.

You always need back-up. Le Roux would presumably compete with Cuthbert for a slot on the bench.

I'm expecting Kinghorn to be at 10 next season. Weir will be dropped on health and safety reasons, as the fans in the standing area won't be safe from the aerial bombardment. He'll never keep his eye on the ball anyway with those burger vans so close to the pitch.

Fowles and Kennedy both sign on for another year. Solid but unspectacular I am afraid, hard to see either of these two helping to take Edinburgh to the next level. Maybe that kid playing for the U20s, Fraser, I think will get some game time. He has looked good.

I suppose it means that Solomons is happy with the status quo in the scrum half department. Kennedy looked so promising initially but has failed to kick on. Solomons heavily structured game plan doesn't suit him at all.

Mosset we used to have a bit of trouble, being RAF. Quite liked the Beastie though.

The whole locals vs RAF thing used to really bother me. The RAF were absolutely vital to the local economy (as well as defending the country of course), certainly more so than the SNP knuckleheads in Forres who felt that the RAF were all "English" and therefore in need of a fight. I know which group I'd rather hang onto!
Not sure what it's like now that Kinloss is army.

Looks like a good signing for Glasgow, can't say i'm 100% certain but i remember being very impressed by Sears-Duru during the World Cup. He is a beast and exactly the kind of players they need in the front 5.

Regarding the Tovey move to Edinburgh, if that becomes permanent then thats a very good bit of business from them, he is at least on par with Weir.
With the signings that have been anounced, do we think that Kinghorn will be moving back to 10 next season? Bryce and Scholes both have the ability to play at 15.

In other news, Edinburgh have tweeted to someone confirming that Nel has another year left on his contract!
Apparently there was a 4 year option cause and Edinburgh initiated it (unsurprisingly)

Hogg winning the 6ns player of the year and folk saying Billy V should have won has got me wondering!
Who has the hands of Stu Hogg?
Who has the ball carrying ability of Billy V?

Wow, lots of new signings.
I'll update the player thread when I get back from visiting my Brazilian in-laws. It's depressing how little exposure rugby gets over here. Nobody knew that the Brazilian national side beat the USA a few weeks ago. They didn't know the USA plays rugby either for that matter.
Anyway, I'd be interested to see which of these loan signings get a permanent contract (if any).
The Canadian Beast Djustice looks like a great prospect for the Great Unwashed so my money is on him.
Tovey is a good call with Tonks going to LI.
Next season looking interesting already from a squad perspective.

OOh, touchy.
Nah, I spent all day making arrangements to be at Scotstoun tomorrow.
Watching the champions in a very packed, very noisy stadium.
If we make the final you should come along with us and see what it's like. You can bring your wedding photos, but only the ones I'm (fully clothed) in. Yes, both of them.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh: Ongoing Banter Thread XI - The Undiscovered Country
Edinburgh Rugby today confirmed the signing of Western Force centre Solomoni ‘Junior’ Rasolea on a two-year deal.
The Brisbane-born 24-year-old represented Fiji in the World Rugby Under-20 Championship in 2010 and 2011, helping his side to sixth place at the latter tournament. Later that year he was selected for Australia 7s and played in the squads that competed in the London and Glasgow legs.
Since debuting for Super Rugby side Western Force, against Melbourne Rebels, in 2013, Rasolea has made 28 appearances in the Southern Hemisphere’s premier club competition, scoring 10 points through two tries.
On signing, Rasolea said: "I am really excited about arriving in Edinburgh and getting stuck into northern hemisphere rugby next season.
“I have heard great things about the PRO12 and am looking forward to joining up with the lads in the summer.
“I hope that my knowledge of Super Rugby will be a positive influence on the squad and it will be great to share playing ideas.
“I really enjoy getting my hands on the ball and enjoy the physical side of the game. It’s also going to be great to play with and against players from different playing backgrounds.
“Edinburgh is a beautiful city and it’s going to be a great experience for my family. My wife is from the UK and so she has explained about the weather!”
Head coach Alan Solomons said: "Junior is a talented young player who has established himself this season as a starter for the Western Force Super Rugby team.
“I am delighted that he has decided to join the club and have no doubt that he will play an important role in moving the club forward."

Rasolea’s moniker brings the total to 20 signings to the club for next season, a list which kicked off in early December 2015 with Scottish age grade back row Jamie Ritchie extending his contract for another three years.
