Lets just hope hye get back too full fitness. and the sore ribs have heeled.

What i would like to know who will be second he charge, if Hartley gets subbed or worst yellow carded?

Brookes was on better form than Cole IMO before injury.

So Brown the only sure starter?

I think if Hartley is named captain then we can be confident he is a starter.

Does that not say to future England players that they can misbehave as much as they want on the pitch and it will not affect their careers?

No it doesnt, they just dont think that way.

I remember a hooker we had, always in the thick of any scrap, never backed down to anyone, he became an All Black and at the time was one of the most pesty grubs playing International Rugby, they made him All Black captain, won a number of series as skipper and went on to become a great leader of men......Sean Fitzpatrick.

I see a lot of Fitzpatrick in Hartley.

I would say that Fitzpatrick is what they wish Hartley to be but there the similarities end.

He is more James Dalton the Sean Fitzpatrick

Hartley won't be named captain. He'll make the bench assuming George isn't injured at the weekend. Jones has said he will choose his team first then his captain. So the captain just has to be definitely in the. 15 not the first name on the team sheet or anything. Jones has said he thinks he knows who his captain is going to be, which implies it is someone he has at least talked to. Let's wait and see, the press were wrong on the squad, I guess they are wrong on this

I would of thought that was obvious. Who0 ever is named Captain is (GARUNTEED) to be a starting player.

Just saying. thumbsup

I wouldn't even have him in the squad. Never-mind his poor previous discipline, I'd say he isn't playing well enough. I'd rather have Hayward in the squad and George to start.

I detest Hartley. However I can understand Jones logic in making him captain as England need a bit more bite Whistle than they showed in the WC.

Jones decision to make - he stands or falls on it and it could be genius or stupid. A fair chance tho the rumours are simple kidology from Jones

Not necessarily. Squad can have squad captains who don't always start or even play. Their primarily roles are off field. It could be one of those. WTF knows.

Cyril wrote:It hardly needs saying that Hartley's disciplinary record for England is very, very good. He's possibly had one/two(?) yellow cards in all his time. He probably needs to be more aggressive for England if anything.

Other sides, for example, have had their international captain red carded for a spear tackle (costing them a place in the RWC final, perhaps?) but no criticism.

I don't give a fig about Hartley's club behaviour as long as he doesn't let England down. His fitness/form is another issue but little discussed here in all the hyperbole.

You've clearly never taken to a pitch if you think that was a spear tackle.

And now Fitzpatrick has morphed and is now a fine English gentleman. So this is where Hartley wants to go...........

Attenborough is not of the level of integrity he once was mate so don't feel bad. I'm sure we will be of similar values when we match his age
