Vice Pres of LNR resigns because of direction French Rugby is taking
Google translate from Le Figaro
The former VP of the LNR is Patrick Wolff representing Clermont.

The now former vice president of the NRL deplores the recent reform of the European Cup, which only strengthened the financial power of the English and French championships, at the expense of provinces Welsh, Irish and Scottish. "I can not stand not to enjoy the spring choruses of Munster or Leinster or Cardiff, because the system set up by the English with our liabilities agreement does not allow them to align competitive teams. More money in each as much money in others, this is also known impoverish" critical that leader trained in European negotiations (particularly in 2000 about the return of English clubs ... ) .

Replace liabilities by passive. align by field.
"more money for some while others get the same amount of money than before, is also a form of impoverishment" makes a bit more sense.
Worth a read indeed. Plenty of other good points made by Wolff who was one of the original founder of the LNR.

Interesting points. Don't know how well-regarded the man is, but he certainly seems to depart from the party line on the revised tournament.
One suspects that those matter financially in France will just 'shrug in his general direction'.

I may be missing something - but how does the new Euro competition stop Pro12 teams fielding competitive sides?

I think it's more to do with the money. He seems to be suggesting that certain sides are getting more than others.LondonTiger wrote:I may be missing something - but how does the new Euro competition stop Pro12 teams fielding competitive sides?

Less money. Its not a level playing field.

There was nothing in the old Heineken Cup format to cap spending by French and English teams, so any imbalance in competition evident now, would have been the same. That's not the result of changing the competition.

Also the Pro12 teams now get the same money from competition as English and French teams. They used to get more. I suppose that is what Sin é means by less money.Rugby Fan wrote:Sin é wrote:LondonTiger wrote:I may be missing something - but how does the new Euro competition stop Pro12 teams fielding competitive sides?

Actually I think everybody is jumping to conclusions. A world cup year is always going to be hard for Pro12 teams as each Pro12 team have so many more players at RWC. I expect better from Pro12 next year.

Yes you're missing something...
The French money will hold sway, but if one or two English clubs break their salarry cap they might be able to compete with them.

It's funny how the Pro 12 gets lumped together when we talk about money but when we talk about success in the tournament, everyones separate. The Pro12 didn't get more money in the HC, the respective unions did because they had more teams in it.Exiledinborders wrote:Also the Pro12 teams now get the same money from competition as English and French teams. This guy is claiming that certain teams (I'd imagine he's talking about Toulon, Sarries and Bath) are getting more money than others. His word is obviously not enough evidence for this though.

They do not get more from the competition even if they win because there is no prize money. I suppose successful teams do get gate receipts from a couple of extra games.LeinsterFan4life wrote:It's funny how the Pro 12 gets lumped together when we talk about money but when we talk about success in the tournament, everyones separate. They have more money because their domestic competitions bring in more income than the Pro12 and those three teams have owners who put in money. Personally I would like to see deliberate and sustained loss making banned, unless Gloucester find themselves a sugar daddy in which case it would be fine.
