All rebids in except for Trebs. Also nobody has lost out yet but there is one tie for one player between two managers, which we will deal with once Trebs has submitted his bids.

I don't condone anything that happened with Eva either.
Reason to get sacked? Huge great big payoff and he'd pretty much got that team to peak the season. Nothing left for him to achieve (within reason he was never winning the CL with that team)

Holymiky wrote:Well Viva,
I was constantly saying on the football board that I didn’t want Jose to go even though we were getting poor results and just write off the season but it happened and I had to deal with that as a fan of him and what he has done for us as a club. I’m not sure if you know but he is my favourite manager and the best in my opinion, the only managers who are on his level currently in my opinion are Guardiola and Ancelotti.
That brings me nicely onto City – I think it was inevitable that he would come to the Premier League and to be honest with you I was hoping he would come to us. My initial thought was that he had been put off by the amount of managers we have had which would have been a fair decision but Man City have had a few the past few years too although they have stuck with Pellegrini and Mancini for quite a while before that.
It will be hard for me to see Jose at Man Utd not in a bitter way but if I see Jose in the Premier League it’s at Chelsea, I think we should of written this season off and kept him at the club, it’s clear he wanted to stay due to the fact that he said he would never leave and he loves it at Chelsea before the decision was made. I imagine he will still love the club just as much as he did when he was there so I imagine it will be difficult for him to face Chelsea especially if he does go to Utd as it used to be quite a big rivalry when Jose was manager of Chelsea.
As for our new manager..I hope it’s someone well known and capable or young with plenty of potential but also capable of getting results, we are a team who needs to get results when challenging at the top, we are a title winning team/champions league team, we need to win matches. I hope whoever it is we get longevity and I think as long as we are at least fighting for the title every season the manager should be okay but some of our managers have been sacked when they have won more (see Di Matteo). I think Simeone has been named as a potential candidate, I like that but is it realistic? I say that only because he looks happy enough at Atletico Madrid but the opportunity of Chelsea may sway him.
The ex Chile manager has been mentioned and also the Juventus manager, Allegri. I can’t really think of many other candidates off the top of my head but im sure they are out there. Regardless of who it is, I would like longevity from them and from the club, I wanted that man to be Jose Mourinho as he looked to be in a place in his career where he could stay at a club and work on the team over a longer period but it didn’t turn out that way. I realise I have gone on a bit but these are my thoughts, I will be interested to know what you guys think.
Most Chelsea fans wanted him to stay, Football fans are very fickle they quickly ignore all the good Jose has done and treated him like a novice manager in the Indian Football league because of a poor 4 months. I thought if Chelsea were to sack Jose they would bring one of the two you mentioned.
I always felt Pep was going to City, financially they will support him and they are looking to build a project which included the CL. It will be a tough challenge but I feel it's not beyond the rest of us and Pep won't have it all his way that is if we all bring in the right managers and financially support them.
Of course it will be hard, Jose helped you win your first league title in 50 years, if you say the name Chelsea you will automatically associate Jose with them. He will always love the club and fans but he will never forgive the snakes within Chelsea Football Club and he will teach them a lesson if he comes back to England. Jose is coming back as a man with something to prove (Not that he needs to, greatest manager in the world) and that will be a fearsome situation for anyone.
I don't know who you can get but as long as Roman backs the manager financially and does not get in his way too much you lot will be challenging for the title.
Re: The World League
Yeah OK he would get the huge payoff Olly but don’t you think he has plenty of money already, I’m pretty sure he said in an interview that he isn’t after money in other words. He seems happy where he is and he seems happy to be part of the English game again. I disagree that we couldn’t win the Champions League with that team, we were capable although I think what would of made it better for us is if we signed another big central midielder like Matic and maybe another top Striker/Central defender. Also that team was playing how he wanted to play to win the title, solid but could score goals.
It’s as Viva says, fans will forget that the team that is around 13th in the league at the moment were rarely challenged moving towards the title last season. Viva I get that fans aren’t going to support managers from other clubs so it’s probably the natural thing but it is interesting to see on the football board how many Utd fans want Jose Mourinho in now but I'm happy that they want him because he is a quality manager and deserves to be at a top team, he's earned that.

Indeed considering the football isn't going to change If want change go after MoPo said at the start of the season Spurs would be upthere under him (Being an Arsenal fan that pains me but he's easily top 3 manager in the league)

------------XXXXXX------XXXXXXX-------------
XXXXXXX---------Barkley----------XXXXXXXXXX
------------------Austin/Afobe--------------------
(Number of x's denote player names if anyone fancies a punt)

Exactly, my choice is Blanc but I can't see him dropping the project at PSG and restarting again at United.
There was this sort of arrogance from United fans "We don't want Mourinho, he don't play the United way etc" during the Sir Alex era including myself. Now we realise it's not as straight forward as that and if we want to compete with the likes of Chelsea, City and Bayern and Barca in Europe Mourinho is the man. We can't afford to make the wrong appointment again.

I'm glad you're in this league Olly, just like the "Most Handsome V2 manager list" I know with you here I won't finish bottom.

Re: The World League
I have concerns with Mourinho at Utd.
Firstly the style of play which has already been discussed, we mentioned it as well on the podcast as Trebs didn't care as to how Utd played as long as the result came. Apologies, but I started supporting the club because of how they played, the excitement, the go-for-it approach, the fast wingers bombarding the opposition defence, that is Man Utd. Man Utd when I started supporting them finished the season 8th, they didn't win the league until I was 16 so I knew many years of being a fan of a club that hadn't tasted glory, but I supported them because of how they played.
Secondly is Mourinho's short-termism. He fails to last beyond 3 years at every club he's been at, often leaving the club fragmented and the dressing room against him.
Lastly is his record of bringing through youth players to the full team, for all LVG's faults the one plus of his reign has been that he's been willing to give the kids a chance, Mourinho wouldn't give them a sniff.

Re: The World League
I'm with Hero on this one - I watch and support my team to be entertained - if we win that's great, if we lose life goes on. Result doesn't matter as much as enjoying and being entertained by your team imo
It's why if Norwich ever appointed Tony Pulis I would stop going to games

Re: The World League
Azzy – I get that completely but he seemed happy enough in London, his family are happy etc, so why change that? I know that if you have £8m you don’t need to work really but the point im making is that he still seemed to be wanting to manage the team even with the poor results, it seemed that he wanted to stay to the end of his contract each time or until he got an extension to his deal.
Hero – I completely get your views on the “Mourinho way of playing” I love seeing attacking football but if comes down to it for me, id rather see my team win a controlled 2-0 than win 6-3. We did play some nice football under Jose as well, it wasn’t all just controlling games by defending first. In his defence in terms of Youth as well, I think given more time under Mourinho we would of seen Loftus-Cheek break into the first team in the next couple of years. I know that may not of all been down to Mourinho but he wasn’t afraid to give him a chance when the time was right.

And I realise that Loftus-Cheek could be breaking into the first team anyway regardless of manager.

Re: The World League
The start of last season Chelsea were playing pretty decent football, he does though seem to have issue with 'flair' players and that they have to put a shift in defensively, Mata and De Bruyne falling foul of this. It's pretty obvious that Mata will be first out of the door at Utd when Mourinho comes in which for me is a shame as when he's in the n10 position he's my fave Utd player.

Re: The World League
Unless he adjusts the style slightly and allows for Mata to play in the 10 role?
Rumours going around that Matip (my defender in the league) has agreed a deal to go to Liverpool in the summer.

Re: The World League
I dislike Mourinho as a person, and think his treatment of his staff and players has bordered on the atrocious far too many times (and indeed went far past that with Eva Carneiro).
However, I used to respect his footballing philosophy and style. Win at all costs. Score goals, keep it tight. That's not his way any more and, to be honest, I don't know what Mourinho stands for on the pitch any more.
Last season his philosophy appeared to be 'get Hazard to win us penalties, let guys shoot from wherever they like, let Costa bully players'. This season, Hazard and Costa have been terrible, and only the likes of Willian and Oscar have stepped up. Mourinho lost his grip on the football side of the game. Can he get that back at Old Trafford? I doubt it.

Prefer the top one personally. Cazorla is a deeper player these days.

Had my first draft gone to plan it would have been;
Kante - Alli
Mahrez - Cazorla - Deulofeu
Lewandowski
Now I'm scratching around a little.

Marky, who was the most bidded-on player in the draft? And who was the player you were surprised only one person went for?

Agreed although he's only 31, still more than able to play AM as much as he can play CM, only at Arsenal he's not going to play there ahead of Ozil and he's clearly better than what Arsenal currently have at CM.

7 out of 10 managers bid on Gerard Deulofeu, second highest was 4 managers bidding on Gianluigi Buffon.
I know everyone tries to find good value for money but I was surprised only Miky went for Thiago Alcantara when he was only £18.75m TM value.

I like it but I've had to sign new CM's and better backup wingers to give depth as Mahrez and Cazorla can both play AM.

IRL he switches between CB and DM whenever Busquets is rested!

Thiago is good, but with money being finite I couldn't justify the outlay on Thiago, especially as I expected him to go for £22m+.

At the price Thiago is i expected him not to go & lots to go after Gundogan as most seem to have a chubby over him regardless of previous injury.

Couldn't justify slinging that much into centre mid after getting Pogba, otherwise he would have been up at the top of my list
Although I may have ignored that logic completely in the second round bids

Similarly I spent so much on Lewandowski that I couldn't afford decent backup haha

Re: The World League
I completely forgot about Gundogan which Nando reminded me off the other day.
I remember when I had him in this league before people were offering a lot for him too, mainly Trebs.
Do you think it was a bad decision to go for Thiago then Marky?

Re: The World League
Thiago is an excellent midfielder - in a league where funds are scarce, having a top CM is so valuable. You can have di Natale up front and score, but if your midfield is weak, you're doomed.

That's the opposite I find.
A top striker usually gets you +1 on score votes. No other position is the same.

Re: The World League
I like Thiago but when Alonso is available for almost quarter of the price, it's a no brainer.
