Ireland to take 2016 Wooden Spoon
Could the unthinkable happen...
Did Italy play awful or did Scotland step up to the plate... Either way, with Ireland being thumped in the second half by England and having so many injuries, is there a real possibility of them also losing to Italy and Scotland, and hence being this years Wooden Spooners..
I actually think there is..

Re: Could the unthinkable happen...
Any thing is possible i guess. But Ireland going from 6ns champions 2 years in a row to being wooden spooners?
I really do not think it likely.

Re: Could the unthinkable happen...
I thought the unthinkable would be if they cited Brown. How dare would they cite him and overrule the decision made by pointe.
Expecting another retrospective yellow even if a player could have been blinded.

Looks even worse on replay.

Murray releases the ball and there's no issue.

Not engaged in the Brown incident on the other threads, as I could see it becoming the usual posters bickering..
But, my thoughts is it was wreckless and if Brown doesn't get cited for that, he'll be VERY lucky..
I dont expect Brown to be playing any part of the remaining tournament.

I expect Ireland to beat both Scotland and Italy, both teams have their moments but Ireland are the stronger side.

'Could' it happen? Of course. Will it? Probably not.

got to lose in Dublin vs. Italy. Can't see it. In Italy it would have been hairy sure but Italy don't travel well.

I thought the thread was going to be about England winning a Slam....but thinking about it, I suppose there is more chance of Ireland getting the spoon.

Re: Could the unthinkable happen...
Fixtures remaining:
Ireland v Italy
England v Wales
Scotland v France
Wales V Italy
Ireland v Scotland
France v England
Obviously, the winner of England v Wales is almost certainly the Champions
I can see Scotland beating France at Murrayfield. Beating Ireland in Dublin? Not overly likely but wouldn't be a huge shock (I think Scotland have the makings of a good side, but need greater confidence, which will only come from improved results).
Italy beating Ireland in Dublin? Not for me - I can see another game like Italy v France or England, where they are right in the mix to about 60 minutes but just can't hold on.
Conclusion:
Winner of England v Wales to win the title
Other as the runner up
Ireland to finish 3rd with 2-2-1 record
France and Scotland to finish with 2 wins apiece
Italy trailing in with no wins

Re: Could the unthinkable happen...
If Scotland beat France then I fancy them to beat Ireland (who look devoid of leadership and are refreshing their team). Confidence would be sky high and that Ireland tight 5 should get ruined by Scotland's barring injuries.
Big game is against Italy. It is in Dublin though so Ireland should win. I would say it is not implausible. Can see a situation where Parisse and Campagnero carry their team to a win over a demoralised Ireland. 80-20 that Ireland do not have the wooden spoon.

With a bit more luck and composure, we could easily be sat here discussing Ireland being 3 wins out of 3. As it is things have tilted against them and they're not in a pretty position. That doesn't make them a bad side though so I'd be very surprised if they come unstuck in both the last 2 games to "win" the wooden spoon

Ireland should win their remaining two games pretty comfortably, especially as they are both at home.

Can't see Ireland getting the wooden spoon although I can see Scotland winning in Dublin. Think the issue for the Scots is fitness. They seem to lose games in the last 15. - 20 mins, sort that and the confidence to shut out games will come.

Apart from the last one.
Or against Japan, USA or Samoa.
Apart from that, yeah.

Hmm yeh your probably right Tattie, it's a difficult one, I really rate this Scotland side, and can't understand it. Maybe Fox Mulder could figure it out.

Re: Could the unthinkable happen...
Ireland will be too good for Italy. If we managed to take the Italian defence to town, then Sexton, Henshaw et al surely will.
Given the scoreline the last time Ireland faced Scotland, I would be astonished if we managed to turn that around in Dublin.

Yes, nothing unthinkable about it. I don't think we will lose both but can see Scotland winning in Dublin.

Re: Could the unthinkable happen...
I wouldn't be confident of beating Scotland. They play a nice brand of rugby and at present they have a stronger tight 5. Ireland just cannot score tries at the moment and if that continues, they'll struggle to win any game.
Schmidt's team selection could be the deciding factor.
Italy could also be close than people think though I would be fairly confident of an Ireland win there.

Coming into 2016 i believed the unthinkable could never happen….but since i am now certain that Trump will be Pres because mr and mrs average Americans would rather a red neck sociopath bigot than a Liberal snob female, I am also fairly sure Scots will beat Ireland and i think even Italy could push them close. Sorry Irelanders.

I don't get why some Brits are so obsessed with talking about Trump all the time - that petition to ban him from entering the UK was stupid and very hypocritical. His name keeps popping up on the rugby forum lately and it's beginning to bug me.

Lefties hate Trump because he is immune to their only debating tactic when it comes to any political topic. Undermine arguments using personal insults/shame the opposition into silence by shouting racist, sexist, bigot etc. Ironically it's the very definition of bigotry.
Anyway back to rugby... I think Ireland will win their last 2 games. They won't be that high scoring, as we are still developing our attacking style. Our defense has been resolute despite being passive, so I don't think either team will find it easy to score against us.

I'd love Trump to win but I think the elites will stop him. Look at the smear campaign against him in the world media. His views are anti communist, which makes him a threat to the elites, plus he is a billionaire so brown envelopes under the table are not much use to him.

The unthinkable's happened people like Trump! I was interested to hear that his ex wife said under affidavit that he raped her, before eventually saying she got confused and now won't speak of it. Or when he said he'd like to date his daughter if he weren't related to her. The guy is teflon, like Gatland on a Lions tour.

Yep, that's liberal politicians for you. Funnily enough what you've said here is similar to trying to discuss rugby with some English posters on V2.
Anyway I see this thread took a turn for the worst, so this hashtag is for all you; #Trump4President

Communism centralizes all power into the hands of a tiny group of elites. Sounds quite attractive if you are part of that club.
