The £30 three-year price cap: At last the fans' voices are being heard. Now all we need is for kick-offs not to be moved at short notice after fans have made all their travel arrangements.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Enjoy paying £40 at Leeds and £35 at Sheff Wed. Be interesting to see what they do in the lower leagues.
Next year scenario looks farcical:
Liverpool v United = £30
Peterboro v Oldham (if we stay up) = £26
Good news for the Premiership 'away' fans unless they increase pies to £15
Would be worried for lower league clubs again if FL follows suit. Not sure it would be good as if you take £5 discount you would need 25% increase which some club fan base is not big enough.
Hopefully it opens up the debate about money trickling down through the leagues to subsidise.

I won't be going that far north.
London clubs, Bristol City, Brighton, Forest.
To name a few, if those clubs are in the championship next season.

What a load of nonsense this £30 cap is.sirfredperry wrote:The £30 three-year price cap: At last the fans' voices are being heard. Now all we need is for kick-offs not to be moved at short notice after fans have made all their travel arrangements.
It's great if you are travelling from the south to the north-east but why should Newcastle only charge £30 for a derby with Sunderland and visa versa.
The same goes for all derbies. Ludicrous.
The price should be set on distance travelled. Derbies would be a premium so clubs should be allowed to charge more.
By all means charge West Ham fans £20-£30 for an away game at Everton but why should Everton only charge Liverpool fans £30?

Interesting. Someone annoyed that people don't have to pay more money. Gonna have an uphill battle with this one I think.

yeah makes no sense why any fan would argue against this one. the money loss on the prices is peanuts to the clubs, but not to the fans. the amount loss would probably equate to some youth product bought elsewhere that never gets a game

Your only 3 days late so no one cares SOF. Also Duty agreed it was a pen which is a guarantee of 100% wrongness .
I can see why people complain ticket wise if your paying £45-60 to watch the same game. I can understand travelling from Bournemouth to Sunderland sure for travelling but the London clubs against each other ain't going to be much. I can get into London for £12

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
As an Albion fan, I've seen very few teams (and by very few, I mean just Blackburn) fail to sell out their allocation of away tickets. If away attendance was at 50% or something then that would indicate that there was a problem with pricing - however, it is not and this was something that didn't need to be done.
What does need to be done is some sort of curb on HOME ticket prices. The Premier League should simply not allow Arsenal to charge more than £1,000 for any season ticket, and no club should be charging more than £50 for a match day ticket. It is ludicrous.

I don't think signs of demand mean prices aren't too high.
It is also the same price for all really. If we get a ticket at your place for £30 then you get the same at ours. It's actually fairest to big clubs, because you know teams charge more to have Man United fans come along.

Also, the age old question: what is happening at Newcastle? Some outlets saying he stays, some claiming Benitez is all but wrapped up

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
AS reporting Rafael Benitez has signed a three year deal to become the 'manager' of Newcastle. I can't honestly imagine seeing him stay, if we get relegated. At least McClaren is hopefully gone for good.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Sky confirm McClaren is to be sacked & won't be in charge of side for the game at Leicester. Talks ongoing with Rafael Benitez, guess we are so desperate we will give into all of his demands. Imagine he wants a big bonus, get out clause, his own staff & Graham Carr to be given less power in player recruitment.
Guest- Guest
Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
He is a good manager, I think he's not the man to save Newcastle from relegation, but with decent recruitment I think he's a huge improvement on Steve McClaren. He got a lot out of a fair few mediocre players whilst at Liverpool and if the players get behind him, he's a fantastic tactical/defensive manager.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
It's his man management skills that are going to be required to get the best out of a Newcastle side utterly bereft of passion and commitment apart from the day Liverpool turned up. As much as I like Rafa, he's not a man-manager type of guy.

I agree for the rest of this season, but think he'd be fine from the summer. It's whether he can do enough now. Newcastle might have been better off bringing in a short term manager to buck their ideas up and keep them up and then appointing Benitez in the summer. As it is, I still see Newcastle going down and Benitez probably leaving soon after.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Apparently we've signed a pre-contract deal with Havard Nordtviet. Good signing in my opinion, Arsenal were keen to take him back and Liverpool wanted him. Centre back and defensive midfield.
Looks like Song needs to play 3 more games then we have to take him. Funny to use the phrase have to but he's a sub player at the moment. Would prefer him to stay, but it's great that we now have a side where it wouldn't matter if he didn't.

Thankgod. Should of never been appointed.
Not sure Rafa will be in charge for Leicester, heard Beardsley will take on the duties. Benitez' first home game will be the Tyne-Wear derby (which we've lost six in a row), followed by Norwich at Carrow Road. No pressure, Rafa. We need that manager boost pretty sharpish.

Benitez hasnt had a great time of it since he left Liverpool (terrible in the league really). Can't see him bucking that trend at Newcastle.

His tenure at Liverpool wasn't that great either after the shock Champions League win, made little impression in the league and were a team capable of doing it occasionally in Europe. His spells at Inter, Napoli and Madrid were moderate at best.

And it's fair to wonder about Rafa, if he can make a long term id say there's definite positives, but questions at this moment of a man who hasn't got a great deal to work with defensively and not a man you'd say loves to scrap and motivate

A strange move by king Rafa. A lot of his problems at clubs (including Liverpool, Inter, Real) have been his clashes with the owners of the clubs because he wants to have the final word on everything. So he decides to get into bed with newcastle's owners. baffling.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
More jumping on the bandwagon, I see. £4m a year, massive bonus in avoiding relegation & now living & working close to his family. Truly baffling, on a personal note
Bringing up his relationships with past owners is scraping the barrel for more negativity, Hicks & Gillette were clowns & if anything, it was the fans who forced them out. They caused political unrest at Liverpool, finance issues & they blatantly lied about stadium expansion & transfer money available to Rafa. At Madrid, Florentino Perez sacks everybody, the fans didn't give Rafa a chance & they sacked him four points off the top of La Liga. With Zidane, the title has now vanished. The Inter job, post Mourinho, was a poisoned chalice, but I will give you that one, he did fall out with Moratti over transfer funds, but it was clear that Inter squad needed fresh faces.
Anymore negativity needed to be posted?
The way I see it, we had the clueless McClaren & we now have Rafael Benitez, who is a massive step up & gives us a fighting chance, something we did not have with McClaren. End of.

Don't get me wrong John I really like Rafa, and really hope he is successful at Newcastle. Not because I like Newcastle but because Rafa will always have a special place in my heart after Istanbul. Unfortunately i don't think he will be a good fit at Newcastle.....really hope i am proved wrong.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Even if McClaren hadn't lost the dressing room (he probably had), he had certainly lost the stadium. I agree with John's earlier posts that Newcastle most needed now a manager used to the muck and bullets that go along with a relegation battle - although I find him fairly obnoxious, Pearson was a very decent call in the circumstances. Much as I too like Rafa, I find it hard to visualise him coming out on top in a dogfight against the wily and experienced Big Sam. That said, Rafa's appointment resurrects some hope for the fans and if their support can help lift the players, who knows?
