Indeed. At 25 and with his goalscoring record (especially at Villa) he looks a great signing. He can go in behind and win it in the air, so I'm happy in that respect. Just would have loved someone a bit more exciting I think.
In reality, he looked a top 6 striker for years, and it seems mental we could have him based on our last season and his.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
He's a good goal scorer, but the main problem I've had with him is a total lack of fight. His movement is so poor and he often looks lazy. At least Andy Caroll when he played would chase everything down and you got the impression he was up for a fight for his place. Benteke expected to be first choice and wasn't willing to put a shift in when that wasn't the case.
Will he be automatic first choice at West Ham? I'm not so sure.

As I've said all along, mid table player at best. Villa was his perfect level, Liverpool a step too far. West Ham might be ok for him

you know best
I think he's a top half striker.
As has been said if he put the effort in he would do better.
Read that if he knew he wasnt going to be no 1 forward he wouldnt have signed.
Think he will bang the goals in for West Ham, who are a top half team.
Good luck to him anway.
That goal against Man Utd at OT was fantastic.

Benteke was fantastic for Belgium when playing for Villa - he kept Lukaku out of the side for a long time. He has the ability, but needs to be the focal point of a side's attacking nature. He'll never be that at a top side.

Sounds like he'll be one of two strikers brought in.
The thought of someone who scored that many goals for a side on that regular a basis being just midtable.

Is Darlow really that much worse than Elliot? From what I saw of him at Forest I'd say no

Have to say Neville is one of if not the best pundit for me.
Not a fan of Carragher, don't mind Jamie Redknapp.
Henry and Souness, god no thanks.
I must say I do miss Keys and Gray.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
With Benteke, Liverpool appear to have done the same thing they've done for a couple of seasons namely, sign a guy who's stuck it to us the previous season. Carroll did it when we lost 3-1 to Newcastle and they promptly signed him, Benteke caused us all kinds of bother culminating in his scoring in the Cup semi final. The only saving grace this season is that we've been mugged off by so many players, we can't afford to buy them all. Still don't understand why I see Benteke on the training pitch at Melwood, I'd have him stuck in a room watching footage of Ian Rush and being told "THAT is what we want from you!"
Don't know what to think about Sturridge leaving (if it's true). His problem is that he needs to be loved, be top dog and he played 2nd fiddle to Suarez despite being brilliant himself, then missed much of the next season and even now he's back seems to down the pecking order in the affections of the crowd with the likes of Coutinho and Firmino gaining popularity. Even Lallana and Sakho have their own chants. If the Kop showed Sturridge some love I'm sure he'd be more inclined to stay yet the only rhymes I can think of are "Bridge" and "Porridge"
We should sign Mahrez if for no other reason than we can utilize the "Luis Suarez" song with relative ease.
Don't actually mind Gary Neville but I'm glad he's been sacked in a way as it clearly shows that even though a player can have a very successful career and prove to be quite and astute analyst of the game, it means sweet f*ck all when it comes to management. Hopefully it will stop the likes of Ferdinand an John Terry thinking they can waltz into coaching and be an immediate success although I must admit the thought of watching terry fail on a weekly basis would give me as much pleasure as watching Liverpool win the title.
Should Liverpool buck their recent trend and not be sh!t, a victory over Spurs (who have admittedly struggled against us for a couple of seasons) could all but hand the title to Leicester this weekend.

Ter Stegen to join City. Why I dont know. Hes already suffered at a club where hes had to compete for the #1 place. Seems odd to do it again. Hart is good, its definitely a risk.
But, looks like Liverpool have missed a second target to City after Gundogan.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Strange, given his frustrations at Barcelona, but he must have some assurances from Pep. Genuine quality is Ter Stegen & good with his feet, which is a basic requirement from Pep. Numerous times that Hart has shown that this is an area of weakness, as he unerringly kicks into the dugout or the crowd from a goal kick. Also, the German is only 23, so is a good long term addition to an ageing side, whereby Hart is going on 29. Only issue from the club, would be spending £20m on an area that needed cover, but was not the priority. I guess seeing Hart get injured & having Caballero for the top 4 run-in & champions league qf, was the trigger to make sure this problem never happens under Pep.
Interesting to see how Hart handles this. I only see a rotation policy or him being the no.2, neither of which will be satisfactory. Liverpool must be sniffing around at this news.

7 pointer, that game, Olly.
You win that and win at Palace next week then you're in Dreamland.

Newcastle got what they deserved after their fans decided to act like a bunch of idiots.
It's so funny to not throw the ball back on to the pitch

Tottenham not been great, but look dangerous on the break. Needed to put away those chances though, feel like Spurs will snatch it most likely. Need Firmino in there, Milner just isn't smooth and fluid enough going forward.
