Russian 7s players test positive for meldonium
First topic message reminder :
The doping samples of Alyona and Alexei Mikhaltsov, players of the Russian national Rugby sevens teams, have tested positively for the prohibited substance meldonium, a source close to the Russian Rugby League Federation told Interfax.
"Meldonium, a substance prohibited by WADA, has been found in the Mikhaltsovs' blood samples," the source said.
The source said both players previously did track and field athletics. "They are representatives of the Novosibirsk track and field athletics school," the source said.

Sorry to rain on your parade, mon ami. I wouldn't want you to be on the cusp of bliss with your high jumper and then have to halt and say,: "Hey sweetie, what's that thingie.............."

Why are drug taking suspects always the ones with dodgy English, by the way???
It must have something to do with why the Black guy always gets it first in the movies....

All the drug traders only speak English, so those with dodgy English get the instructions wrong.

Re: Russian 7s players test positive for meldonium
Mate, Meldonium is a stupid drug. Somewhat effective, but also risky, which is why it is (or has been?) legal only in certain unnamed countries noted for cheating drug tests. You can virtually buy it anywhere in a certain country. Anecdotal evidence it can mask other chemically similar medications. But not definitive. Was not banned, but now is. I wonder if it is habit forming?SecretFly wrote:Right.... back to meldonium.......

Well there you go. I call the whole testing plan off. Let them all f**king cheat. I'm not going to spend the next few months checking out sweaty lunch boxes.

Re: Russian 7s players test positive for meldonium
Well, not sure if anyone noticed, but the governing body of Tennis (talk about upper class Whities) decided to throw the book at Maria Sharapova. So I have to wonder if that will have any ripple effect on other sports including Rugby. And then, could it lead to more frequent testing in Rugby?
I think the dynamics of taking banned drugs and supplements are different between athletes in individual sports like Tennis and team sports. Individual sport athletes occupy a very isolated world and frequently have only their immediate support staff around them and less opportunity for discussions with teammates and opponents
In the case of Sharapova, it is almost sad. A continued use of a drug like that is simply foolish. Ultimately, she seems a nice pretty girl who grunts in ways which appeals to my juvenile mind in delightful ways. But she was either terribly advised or simply not the brightest bulb on the rack. And that is the case with many, perhaps most, drug offenders.

Re: Russian 7s players test positive for meldonium
Let's face it, her main role was publicity (fashion, beauty, mag covers, promotions etc etc). But her unique 'angle' was the tennis. She wasn't just good to look at, she was a 'real person with a real job'.
The kids love that stuff. It allows Women's mag editors to expand on the questions they can ask her rather than asking the usual catwalk queens what designer they "absolutely OMG adore and aspire to be becoming too, like,.... I mean the positive being that exudes from their inner grace and perfect clarity about things and stuff."
So, in order for Sharapova to keep up the guise of being a serious sportstar, she had to keep up with the energy levels of athletes that really trained seriously.....
What the serious ones that don't have the cosmetic and fashion contracts use to keep up with the energy levels is, of course, anyone's guess........

Re: Russian 7s players test positive for meldonium
The amazing thing to come out of the Sharapova judgement was that it appears her original claim of ignorance that the drug she was taking had been banned was actually true. Not sure if this was stupidity or incompetence on a grand scale or just wilful negligence.
She actually said that she has never consulted the WADA list or checked the annual updates, and had abdicated that responsibility to a manager (who didn't know about the Mildronate / meldonium anyway...). And this was the world's top earning female sports star.
By comparison, the majority of drug test fails in rugby are understandable (either roid heads playing at lower levels who don't anticipate getting tested, or guys taking supplements that include banned substances).
