Indy Promotions Discussion Thread - Page 7 Empty Indy Promotions Discussion Thread

Post by AberdeenSteve Fri 03 Jun 2011, 9:40 am

First topic message reminder :

Thought I'd create a thread for those who are interested in the Indy wrestling fed Ring of Honor to discuss or post any news referring to the company.

Probably won't be too busy on here but just thought i'd post a link to the ROH website to start some discussion.

http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/june-2nd-newswire-2/

It's been announced that the ROH Tag Titles will be defended at Best In The World 2011 by TWGTT against The Briscoes, The All Night Express AND The Kings of Wrestling in a Fatal Four Way Elimination match. That will be Tag Team wrestling at its finest.

I am also incredibly looking forward to the World Title bout between Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards. I can see Richard's stealing this one.

What are everyone elses thoughts?

Same here steve. Would have loved to see ROH when they were in England in 06 if thats right?

Looks like their teasing Richards V Edwards V Strong for Final Battle 2011, should make a very decent main event. Also ROH are having a 20% off sale on their products, Just picked up a DVD from there Smile

I am so so pleased that Michael Elgin won the series. He has huge potential and from what I have seen, he is pretty impressive in the ring. The only gripe I have about last nights show was how early The Briscoes were eliminated from the match. They seem to have been taken away from the spotlight majorly the last few months.

What have everyones opinions been of the weekly episodes so far? I just wish they'd build up a little story input or am I the only one thinking that?

What match did you watch Bull?

They haven't always been about the wrestling though, I feel almost to an extent they've pushed the wrestling to hard and I freaking love a wrestling match but they have the tools to have some great stories. One I'd particularly like to see is the House of Truth dominating the roster.

* Michel Elgin defeated Mike Bennett, Adam Cole and Grizzly Redwood via pin
* Tomasz Ciampa defeated Harlem bravado via pin
* Eddie Edwards defeated Kyle O'Reilly via submission
* The Briscoe Brothers defeated The Young Bucks via pin
* In a Proving Ground Match, ROH TV champion Jay Lethal defeated Roderick Strong via pin (The match initially went to a draw, but Jim Cornette came out and said that Strong made it the 15 minutes and has his guaranteed title shot but the crowd wants five more minutes. They went into extra time, and Lethal won)
* Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin defeated the All Night Express to retain the tag team titles via pin
* Davey Richards defeated El Generico to retain the ROH Title via pin

* After the match, Kevin Steen hit the ring and attacked Richards. They brawled as the entire locker room and all the officials ran out. Jacobs and Corino hit the scene and attacked Steen. He whipped him into all four sides of the rail and brawled with him. Everyone tried to hold them apart. Generico dove off the apron onto everyone trying to get at Steen. Steen was again dragged out of the building. The show ended with Corino, Generico, Jacobs and Richards in the ring

Steve, I do agree with you about the lack of storylines at the minute with their online shows. But what I will say is something intresting will be coming in the next few shows going into Final Battle without spoiling it for you.

As for Micheal Elgin, I'm glad he's getting a push. The sky's the limit with this guy & I'm glad he gets a future title shot because IMO he deserves it. He sells the monster role very well and would be believable in the main event facing guys like Richards.

That documentry was a good watch. Recorded it & watched it earlier today. Has Zima Iron (Spelling) from TNA in it and also includes guys like Luke Gallows. Shows the inside look at ROH as well with guys like Chris Hero featuring in it. Nice to see the Indy's get some good limelight.

Last thing. Colt Cabana is done with ROH for now.

According to a statement made by The World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico, Mark "Bison" Smith passed away following cardiac issues. He had been working semi-regularly for them in recent months and I've heard one report that he was in Puerto Rico at the time of his passing. Smith was only 38.

A Colorado native, Smith was trained by Donovan Morgan and Mike Modest and was a regular for their Pro Wrestling Iron in California. At the time, Iron was working with NOAH, which led to a pretty successful run in Japan where Smith picked up a number of tag titles in the promotion.

An American brawler with size, something that he accentuated with a mohawk, Smith stood out perfectly overseas and was probably the most tenured of the gaijin talent in NOAH.

In the United States, Smith's biggest platform was a short run in Ring of Honor during the time period Adam Pearce was booking. Smith was brought in as a member of The Embassy, feuding with Bryan Danielson.

Smith last wrestled on 11/20 for NOAH in Sapporo, Japan, teaming with Shuhei Taniguchi in a losing effort against Jun Aiyama and Yoshihiro Takayama.

Below are the results from last nights Ring of Honor Southern Defiance show;

Mike Bennett vs. Adam Cole:

Mike Bennett over Adam Cole with the side effect. Quite a hot crowd.

The Bravados Brothers vs. Los Ben Dejos:

The Bravados win with an assisted roll up.

TJP vs. Jay Lethal in a Proving Ground match:

Lethals wins with a handstand springboard into ace crusher in about 11 mins.

The Young Bucks vs. ANX:

Bucks win with more bang for your buck. Ok match. Titus was selling the leg a ton late in the match.

Intermission

The Briscoes vs. Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander:

The Briscoes win with the doomsday on Cedric. The Briscoes are BY FAR the biggest stars of the show thus far reaction wise.

Michael Elgin & Roderick Strong vs. WGTT in a Proving Ground match - 20 minute time limit:

WGTT win in about 17 mins. with Shelton’s leaping top rope german release on Elgin. Pretty good.
El Generico vs. Eddie Edwards:

Eddie Edwards wins in about 18 mins. via submission with the half crab. Really good match.

20-man Honor Rumble:

They have a horn to signify each entrant.
Jay Briscoe cleans house on the first five entrants and Caprice Coleman.
WGTT/Briscoes eliminate each other and Grizzly is left alone with a few entrants to go.
The final four is Generico, Elgin, Strong, and Lethal.
Jay Lethal eliminates Roderick Strong to win the Honor Rumble and earn a future ROH World Title shot!

Jay Lethal to surely drop the TV Title to Bennett at Final Battle?

The Young Bucks to win that Gauntlet match. They'll then beat WGTT before The briscoes will seriously kick their behinds.

Looking forward to Richards v Edwards, could be the best yet. I do feel however that they're struggling for guys to challenge Richards!

I still think that Roderick Strong should be added to the main event at Final Battle, Has he still not been announced for a match yet?

I also think that Micheal Elgin will be there come next year, He'll have a title shot come march/april for sure.

Steen v Corino could be absolutely epic. I've always felt Corino is massively underrated and I reckon the two will bring out the best in each other.

What's the card so far?

ROH World Title;

Davey Richards v Eddie Edwards

Gauntlet Match;

ANX v The Young Bucks v The Briscoes v The Bravdos v C&C

Grudge Match;

Steve Corino v Kevin Steen w/ Jimmy Jacobs as special guest referee

Missed any out?

I knew Lethal was defending but couldn't remember if it was just Bennett or whether they had added a third guy in.

I think we could see both the Tag Titles & TV Title changing hands at Final Battle. The Briscoes have been red hot recently and I think they could potentially turn face against a heel Young Bucks.
