Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
First topic message reminder :
Thought I'd create a thread for those who are interested in the Indy wrestling fed Ring of Honor to discuss or post any news referring to the company.
Probably won't be too busy on here but just thought i'd post a link to the ROH website to start some discussion.
http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/june-2nd-newswire-2/
It's been announced that the ROH Tag Titles will be defended at Best In The World 2011 by TWGTT against The Briscoes, The All Night Express AND The Kings of Wrestling in a Fatal Four Way Elimination match. That will be Tag Team wrestling at its finest.
I am also incredibly looking forward to the World Title bout between Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards. I can see Richard's stealing this one.
What are everyone elses thoughts?

I didn't even realise that FCW had a Diva's division
Are there much people in it? I have heard good reviews of Knight though. Definitely breaks the buck of the usual females WWE produce.

Does anyone see Roderick's opponent being someone from out with ROH at Final Battle?

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
Could well be someone outside of ROH. there's a couple names missing from the ppv like ciampa but doubt would be any of them.
only person i could think of on the roster is Homicide tbh. There's always the major longshot of Jomo since he doesn't have a 90 day clause?

PWG fear Results
This was PWG's final show of 2011 in front of a packed Saturday night crowd in the Los Angeles area.
(1) T.J. Perkins vs. Kenny King went to a No Contest when the Taylors interfered.
(2) Taylor Boys beat T.J. Perkins & Kenny King. Taylors won with a double-team Canadian Destroyer.
(3) Roderick Strong beat Amazing Red with the Gibson Driver.
(4) "Pretty" Peter Avalon & Ray Rosas & The Dynasty (Joey Ryan & Scorpio Sky) beat Famous B & Chris Kadillak & Candice LeRae & B-Boy, who made an unadvertised return to PWG, in an eight-person tag match. Sky hit a running knee and Joey hit a superkick on Candice for the win.
(5) Willie Mack beat Chris Hero with the Chocolate Thunder Driver. Hero, who was not advertised for the show and is rumored to be heading to WWE, cut a promo afterward saying he wasn't sure if he was coming back to PWG or not, but PWG is home.
(6) RockNES Monsters (Johnny Goodtime & Johnny Yuma) beat Future Shock (Adam Cole & Kyle O'Reilly). Goodtime hit a frogsplash for the win.
(7) American Wolves (ROH World champion Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) beat Super Smash Bros. (Player Uno & Stupefied). Wolves won with a lungblower into Achilles Lock by Edwards. Afterward, Richards endorsed SSB. It was a better match than expected.
(8) PWG champion El Generico beat Dick Togo in a non-title match. Generico won with a top-rope Brainbuster suplex.
(9) Super Dragon & Kevin Steen beat PWG tag champions Young Bucks in a Guerrilla Warfare match to capture the PWG Tag Titles. Dragon, who wrestled his first match in over three years, and Steen won with a combination Package Piledriver/Double Stomp.

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
It will be somebody from outside of ROH but it won't be John Morrison. I've heard that ROH are looking to bring in well known names with a couple due in after the new year, they are looking at brining in a former WWE/WCW name in the near future, so I'm guessing that's who will face Strong.
Sounds like a decent PWG Show, I saw a few matches from the PPV that had the ladder match Steen/Generico and was impressed with the standard of matches.

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
I'd highly doubt they'd get Morrison in to perform. He would be completely destroyed by the ROH crowd. It would be much like when Jeff Hardy entered a ROH and had abuse thrown at him from al directions.
I am honestly struggling to think of other names that could appear and not get a hostile reception. Chris Masters?
The level of PWG shows has increased massively over the last couple of PPV's. I'd love to watch Steen/Dragon v The Young Bucks. Be interesting too see where Hero goes from this but I fully expect this to be his last Indy appearance.

Chavo would have worked if Strong was face as a face Chavo would be pretty terrible. He would be a great name to get in nonetheless!

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
I stayed up to watch this show, and I wish I hadn't bothered. For starters, the quality of the production was terrible. They attempted on several occasions to show video packages which just didn't appear, the sound quality at times was barely audible and the cameraman failed on several occasions to pick up spots in matches.
The crowd were completely dead during the second half of the show and that is all to blame on the Kevin Steen v Steve Corino match. Now, I knew before this match started it was going to brutal but this ended up being on the verge of stupid. Some of the spots these guys did were ridiculous and the crowd at times were struggling to know how to react. There were numerous unprotected head shot which in 2011 just shouldn't be acceptable. They did a spot also were Steen suplexed Corino on to the guard rail and there was no give whatsoever. I don't understand why RoH need to resort to this to sell a PPV and get cheap crowd pops.
Also, there were several unprotected head shots in the ROH World Title match and at one point McGuinness - who has a history of concussions - was begging for Jay Briscoe to protect himself. It was disappointing to say the least.
Best match of the night was the RoH World Title match. Those two were made to wrestle one another, the back and forths were insane. Fantastic match.

Morning Abe,
I stayed up in the end but i never had any of the issue you did oddly. Ridiculous was an understatement with the Steen/Corino match then went towards CZW style of brutality especially the piledriver off the rope through the announcers table.
I think the unprotected headshots are getting out of hand though their going to cause some serious damage if not careful
For people who didn't see i shall spoiler results below

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
I have feeling it may have been my internet connection at the time mate. I have since gone back to watch it again and none of these problems exist anymore. So I withdraw that the production was shoddy.
Glad that you agree with me that the Steen/Corino match got out of hand. I thought you'd blast me seeing as you are more of a hardcore fan than I am The entire match just circled around the two guys trying to kill one another. The package piledriver at the end on the chairs too looked sickening. I hope that when Steen does eventually get his hands on Richards that the matches are never pulled down this level.
I'd hope that either Cornette says something to the roster about the chair shots or the guys in the back are clever enough to come together and decide on cutting it out. I was especially shocked with Haas & Benjamin going down to that level.
What did you think of the Strong v Hero match btw? Strong just cannot wrestle like a heel can he?

I think Davey will draw him into an actual match until Steen has to cheat to win etc
I can see someone getting seriously hurt if they don't start to protect themselves properly from chairshots.
Im a big fan of Roderick but he seems to appealing to wrestle as a heel needs to get a good eye poke lol
Im just glad that the Briscoes are tag champs again id say their the best tag team in wrestling today tbh

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
Yeah, I did ponder whether that would happen or not. I definitely see it as a logical way of putting the strap on Steen. Even though I didn't enjoy his match with Corino I am massively pleased to see a top heel in ROH as they were screaming for one.
I'd love if ROH turned O'Reilly on Richards during the Richards/Steen feud. Have Steen corrupt O'Reilly into helping him win the Title. It would set a fantastic American Wolves v Future Shock feud. I felt Future Shock were the best team in the Gauntlet match last night by a mile. Cole and O'Reilly have massive futures.
The Briscoes got the biggest pop last night and they are heels!!
I can see them possibly turning face and feuding with a heel Young Buck team as I think they work much better as heels.

If I am completely the honest, the guy in the ROH roster that I genuinely see as a possible WWE guy is Mike Bennett. Everything about him just screams what the current WWE machine is looking to churn out.
Elgin has the look about him but I just can't see him being ROH World Champion.

If he brings Maria with him he can join WWE any time he likes
With Tyler Black and Jon Moxley in WWE now its starting for them to realize that you can be a great wrestler without being in a big company.

Just watched the Steen v Corino match again.
Quite possibly the most brutal encounter I've ever watched.

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
I've seen the first 4 parts now, By The Way, Cheers for the links guys
For now I've seen the first 4 matches, which included the Steen/Corino match. Still very impressed with both Michael Elgin & Tommaso Ciampa, both guys will have a huge 2012 IMO. The Steen/Corino match was one of the most sick & brutal matches I've seen in a long, long time. Kevin Steen could well and truley move on and now become the heel of ROH, even though a few are coming through now with Elgin & Ciampa I feel Steen will have a few title shots this year & again will be a big year for Steen.
Just from the 4 matches I've seen though. There doesn't seem to be much hype or much Storylines leading into Final Battle, Now this is one the few PPV's ROH have which is counted as a 'Big One' but considering they've been on TV now for a few months the only match they built up from it was the TV Title match. The other matches were either thrown together or were continued from 6 months ago. If ROH want to start building a more worldwide fanbase now that they can reach all the world they'll need to start making the weekly episodes more enternating with more of a story.
It's going to take a few days to watch all 8 parts, but I'm so looking foward to seeing the Tag Team & World Title matches now...

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
I'm just not all that convinced with either Elgin or Ciampa at the moment. ROH have been screaming for a main event heel since Steen left and I honestly believe that Elgin should have been pushed up the card sooner than he was too see if he could be that heel. Now that Steen has returned, Elgin and Ciampa will stay where they are so Steen can feud with Richards.
I just wish that ROH would use their TV Tapings as away to build up feuds and characters rather than just putting together matches that in some cases make no sense.

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
- Ring of Honor officials held a meeting at the ROH headquarters yesterday and discussed and confirmed many things going into 2012. Officials discussed all three ROH Championships in depth including the upcoming title challengers and the location of these championship bouts. As announced today, ROH Television Champion Jay Lethal will challenge for the ROH World Championship against Davey Richards on 1/20 in Philadelphia. “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin was originally slated for this spot due to winning “Survival of the Fittest 2011,” however Truth Martini used his managerial stroke to persuade officials to hold off on Elgin’s championship match. Also discussed was the ROH World Championship status of both Roderick Strong and Eddie Edwards as we enter 2012. It has been determined that both men will have to get a few more credible wins before they are offered another World Championship opportunity.
- The ROH Television Championship was discussed by officials and it has been determined that the title will only be defended on television and iPPV. This has been the unwritten rule for sometime but officials have now confirmed this regulation with proper documentation. Do not expect the TV title to be defended at live events taped exclusively for DVD. With that said, ROH officials are looking at signing Roderick Strong to a ROH TV title match soon. Strong survived the Proving Ground at “Glory by Honor X” when he battled Jay Lethal to a time limit draw.
- Speaking of the Proving Ground, The All Night Express are in line for a World Tag Team Championship match based off of their pinfall victory over Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (before they lost the belts) on the 12/10 edition of “Ring of Honor Wrestling”. ROH officials were looking at signing a huge tag title contest with ANX and the current champions, The Briscoe Brothers in January, however, it is looking like that title opportunity is doubtful given the recent injury to Titus’ knee. Titus underwent surgery for a torn meniscus yesterday and is looking to return as soon as possible, postponing his & Kenny’s title chance until later in the year.
- The men responsible for Rhett Titus’ knee injury are Matt and Nick Jackson, the Young Bucks. A ROH World Tag Team Championship opportunity is also in the future of the Bucks based off their recent win at “Final Battle 2011” in the 5 Team Contenders Gauntlet. By putting ANX on the sidelines, the Bucks definitely have an advantage in the tag division as they set their sites on the biggest prize in all of tag team wrestling.
- Now that he has officially been reinstated in ROH, Kevin Steen has signed a new contract and is confirmed for all of our January events. The addition of Kevin Steen will surely add a layer of unpredictability to ROH as we enter a new year.
- ROH officials have issued heavy fines to various individuals due to their use of illegal objects at “Final Battle 2011.”

Eddie Edwards has been announced in a match at 2012's first ROH tapings against Mike Mondo. He was formerly of the WWE and was Mikey in the Spirit Squad and is currently signed to OVW.

I think all the Spirit Squad think that, in particular Kenny Dykstera. He was the 'leader' so to speak but ended up a massive flop.

I don't think I've ever seen a more ridiculous wrestler in all my life. I need to ask, how was he in the ring?
In other news, it's been announced that Chris Hero is signed to compete at Ring of Honor's Homecoming on the 20th of this month.
His chances of signing with the WWE over?

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
The results for New Japan Pro Wrestlings recent Tokyo Dome show:
Not very many star names like they usually manage to pull in on their opening year show but nonetheless sounds a terrific show.
- Spoiler:
- (1)Apollo 55 (Ryusuke Taguchi & Prince Devitt) beat Rocky Romero & Davey Richards to win the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Championships when Taguchi pinned Richards. The challengers came out in astronaut gimmicks, which was amusing. Early heel work by the champions led to a springboard back elbow by Taguchi and a hot tag. Taguchi and Devitt got some high-flying offense including a combo reverse frog splash and double stomp for two at the six-minute mark. The finish came when Richards had Taguchi up for a powerbomb, but it was countered to a victory roll at 13 minutes. Very good opener.
(2) [b]Mascara Dorada & Tiger Mask & Kushida & Jushin Thunder Liger beat TAKA Michinoku & Taichi & Valiente & Atlantis in an eight-man tag match when Liger pinned Valiente. Team Liger was bought out by Atom Boy, complete with anime intro, which was unique. An expected high-paced spotfest. Some entertaining heel work from Taichi and Michinoku prevented Liger and Dorada from getting involved at one point, but a comeback lead to a series of dives to the outside. Liger won with a Liger Bomb followed by a brainbuster.
(3) Yoshi-Hashi beat Kazuchika Okada. Okada hit a suicide dive early and took control, working over Yoshi. A missed swanton at the four-minute mark lead to a comeback. Lariat at 4:30 and that was it. Very tepid reaction.
(4) Masayuki Kono & Masakatsu Funaki (AJPW) beat Yuji Nagata & Wataru Inoue (NJPW) when Funaki pinned Inoue. This marked Funaki's return to a NJPW ring after over 20 years. The All-Japan duo worked over Nagata initially before he fired up and let Inoue in. Stiff strikes were exchanged between all four before Nagata got the Nagata Lock on Funaki. Inoue speared Kono and hit a beautiful Everest German for two at the six-minute mark, but Funaki pinned Inoue after a stiff head kick a minute later. Post-match, Funaki and Nagata had a pull apart brawl.
(5) MVP & Shelton Benjamin beat the Complete Players (IWGP Intercontinental champion Masato Tanaka & Yujiro Takahashi w/Jado and Gedo) when MVP submitted Takahashi. Benjamin set up both heels for MVP to hit successive Ballin' elbows early. Tanaka took the faces to the floor, though, and landed a splash to the outside on MVP through a ringside table. After being isolated for a while, MVP landed on his feet from a hip toss and hit a DDT for the hot tag. Benjamin landed a flip dive to Jado and Gedo at ringside at eight minutes. The finish came when Benjamin hit Paydirt on Takahashi, allowing MVP to lock in his Irreversible Crisis submission.
(6) Satoshi Kojima & Hiroyoshi Tenzan beat IWGP and GHC Tag Champions Bad Intentions (Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson) to win the IWGP Tag Championships. Kojima and Anderson started out, but the crowd wanted Tenzan, who came in to hit his signature Mongolian chops. The champions took over for a while before a countered suplex on Tenzan bought in Kojima, who hit rapid fire chops in the corner to both champions. Anderson responded with a running powerbomb at the eight-minute mark, before Bernard hit a running splash for two. A Koji cutter a minute later bought Tenzan back in. Bad Intentions got some very nearfalls on Tenzan, including from the Magic Killer neckbreaker and an assisted Bernard bomb for a very convincing nearfall. Tenzan eventually landed a moonsault on Bernard to win the belts and send the crowd into intermission happy.
(7) Hiroki Goto (NJPW) beat Takashi Suguira (NOAH). Goto worked a long headlock early before Sugiura took over and worked on the midsection. Goto hit a lariat and a German for two at the five-minute mark, but Sugiura answered with corner boots and a spear. An ugly German into the bottom turnbuckle followed by vicious forearms lead Goto to sell a concussion, but he kicked out of the follow-up knee and Dragon suplex. Goto came back at the nine-minute mark with the Go To Heaven slam and lariat for two before hitting a brainbuster into a sideslam for the pin. Very good match telling a strong story.
(8) Togi Makabe beat Yoshihiro Takayama. They fought to the outside early and Takayama took control with strikes and a running knee to Makabe in the tree of woe. Makabe fired back with a lariat at the five-minute mark, but Takayama answered with a side suplex and a leg drop for two. Takayama was looking for his Everest German, but Makabe hit one of his own for a nearfall before hitting a spider suplex and King Kong knee drop for the victory. Not bad, but it's clear Takayama is having trouble moving around.
(9) GHC Heavyweight Champion Go Shiozaki & Naomichi Marufuji (NOAH) beat Shinsuke Nakamura & Toru Yano (NJPW) when Shiozaki pinned Yano. The story early was Yano and Nakamura outsmarting the NOAH pair. Things soon spilled outside where Yano tried attacking Shiozaki with a pair of scissors before the NJPW tandem worked on Marufuji in ring. At the ten-minute mark, Yano held Marufuji on the top rope, allowing Nakamura to hit a pair of running knees, but a follow up Boma Ye knee attempt was blocked and countered with a sliced bread. The finishing sequence had Go Shiozaki with Toru Yano. Shiozaki withstood the Oni Koroshi kneeling powerbomb and a low blow before hitting the Go Flasher (brainbuster/elbow combination) to end an exciting match at around 15 minutes.
(10) Keiji Mutoh beat Tetsuya Naitou. Things started with evenly matched matwork before they moved to the floor six minutes in. Mutoh hit a Dragon Screw on the floor and a second over the guardrail before a third over the ropes as Naitou tried to re-enter. Mutoh locked in the Figure 4 at the nine-minute mark and continued to work the legs. Naitou eventually rallied to hit a running swanton and top rope huracanrana, but a Stardust press missed and Mutoh hit the Shining Wizard to reset the match at 15 minutes. Mutoh continued alternately working the leg and hitting Shining Wizards, but Naitou stayed in things. Mutoh finally hit the moonsault to a strong reaction at 21 minutes for the win.
Post-match, Mutoh offered his hand, but Naitou refused to shake. A good match, working in a lot of drama around Mutoh's physical limitations.
(11) IWGP Heavyweigt champion Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Minoru Suzuki to retain the IWGP Hvt. Title. The intro video stated that the IWGP Title has changed hands 56 times since its inception, which is about the same number of times the WWE Title changed hands last year. After an exchange of holds, the two found themselves in the ropes, Suzuki locking an octopus hold over the top rope before booting the champion outside. Suzuki wanted the Gotch piledriver on the ramp, but Tanahashi countered with a back drop. Suzuki met Tanahashi on the way back in with a triangle over the ropes to regain control. Suzuki persisted in working over Tanahashi, responding to a straightjacket German with his sleeper. At the 22-minute mark, Suzuki hit the Gotch driver for a very near fall, and Tanahashi responded with a frog splash for two. They traded bombs before Tanahashi hit the sling blade slam and a pair of frog splashes for the win at about 24 minutes.
Not very many star names like they usually manage to pull in on their opening year show but nonetheless sounds a terrific show.

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
Seen all of Final Battle 2011 now. Again cheers for the links, been over a year since I saw an ROH PPV.
I was so strange to see the heel's cheered so much in the Tag Title match, but I got why they did get cheers. There were some brutal chair shots in the entire night, but glad that the Bricoes are now the champs. The Edwards/Richards 3 match was good in part. Far to many slapping and kicks, and as the match went on longer & longer ( A good 40 Mins) I think it just became a little to unrealistic with some of the moves they were kicking out from. Loved Steen coming out at the end and breaking up the love fest. ROH will be the year of Steen this year!

Re: Indy Promotions Discussion Thread
Anyone heard of the American Indy Federation called RESISTANCE Pro?
It's owned by the Smashing Pumpkin's lead man Billy Corgan, with Raven as the main agent.
This was the card from a show last night;
"Three Way Dance" for the Heavyweight Championship
Kevin Steen vs. Harry Smith vs. The Almighty Sheik (w/Rinaldo Piven)
Colt Cabana vs. Davey Richards
RESISTANCE Pro Women's Champion Melanie Cruise vs. Serenity
El Generico vs. PAC
Da Soul Touchaz vs. El Gringo Loco and Heros
"Lonesome" Jay Bradley vs. Steven Walters
Number One Contender's Match
Cheerleader Melissa vs. Sassy Stephie
The Daivari Brothers vs. Robert Anthony and Mr. 450
I've read a few reviews on PWTorch from their other shows and they seem a pretty good fed!
