Player of the 6N
Official player of the 6N
First topic message reminder :
The shortlist
England: Billy Vunipola, Jonathan Joseph and Jack Nowell
Wales: Gareth Davies, George North
Ireland: Jonathan Sexton, Conor Murray
Scotland: Stuart Hogg, Duncan Taylor
France: Guilhem Guirado, Virimi Vakatawa
Italy: Sergio Parisse

As a Scotsman I'd love to see Hogg get it - and I don't think many would deny that he'd be a worthy winner - but I suspect it will go to Vunipola.
If I was to do a top 3 I'd say:
3 Guirado
2 Vunipola
1 Hogg

Woohooo!'
Well done Hoggy! Surely the obvious choice, and a shoe-in for the Lions 15 jersey.

Him and Billy V were surely the front runners - I'm sure a good case could have been made for it being Billy V but hopefully people will concede that Hogg is deserving too.

Re: Official player of the 6N
Hogg deserved to be Back of the tournament. However some rather high profile defensive lapses should, imo, have put him below Billy. However the public votes and we get what we get (which included the Italian public voting for Ben Youngs as man of the match in our game with them)

I know my abiding memory should be of him scything through the Irish defence - instead I am unable to get the images of him lying on the ground thumping the turf with frustration

Congratulations to Hogg but I am with LT on this one. Billy made more difference in more games in a GS winning team.
Nice to see North back to his best after all the head injury and Saints vs Wales problems

Billy to an extent suffers in the same way as Hogg. Without the ball in hand he doesn't really do much. With the ball in hand Vunipola is a war crime, freakishly powerful, silky offloads and always makes yardage, but without it he doesn't really do much, not the way the likes of Heaslip, Faletau and Parisse do thing at number 8.
I personally voted for Hogg, but I am surprised that Vunipola didn't a win, I thought he had a great tournament. Hogg did grab the limelight on lore than one occasion though, so well done to him.

Re: Official player of the 6N
Vunipola out of those listed but should have been Kruis whose lineout work alongside Itoje was vital in wins over Ireland, Wales and France.
I'm not too surprised with Joseph getting a mention, he showed a completely different but equally vital side of his game this year, that being rock solid in defence something we wouldn't necessarily associate with him. His role in the side will depend on who is alongside him, someone like Slade would get the best out of him going forward as well as taking on some of the defensive responsibility.

Re: Official player of the 6N
Hogg was easily the best full back but in terms of an attacking player, the stats show George North was the most potent. Vunipola was robbed personally, public votes are not the way to determine who was the best player as fans vote for their own countrymen.
I think they should follow the premier league where only the players vote for who they feel was the best player and you can't vote for your own team mate.

Guilty as charged, which makes Hogg's win all the more remarkable when you consider population difference between Scotland & England.

That's what I was thinking - there must have been a lot of non-Scots voting for him to get the win.

Re: Official player of the 6N
Not at all, you're assuming that the entire population of England and Scotland voted. It could have easily have been a Scottish majority if the English fans decided not to vote.

He's not as versatile but it very much depends on the game. Vs Ireland all he did was carry, and you can see why. He was standing off every ruck and hardly tackled. Other games he does do a lot more general work but he's never going to chase anyone down in the wide open spaces.
For the size he is his work rate is very good and stamina hard to comprehend

Re: Official player of the 6N
I think it's because Hogg offers something different that few players in the NH have, that amazingly quick step, acceleration, the buzz when he get's the ball is akin to what it was like when Shane Williams used to get the ball. Well done Hoggy. Keep it up for the rest of the year.

Not saying that Hogg wasn't deserving but public votes often mean very little, every single football vote is hijacked by Arsenal fans to the extent that everytime the team or one of their players is involved they win.

Well done Hogg but whole thing is silly if you are unable to vote for best player Kruis.

As great as Hogg was, and I congratulate him on his victory, I still think my top 3 candidates would be:
Guirado
Kruis

Don't see why Hogg cant be considered a deserving winner. He was absolutely outstanding. Not convinced Kruis deserved it more.

I'd argue both ways, Hogg does deserve it for how his form his, however I'd argue Kruis over Hogg given the chance.

No. I am sure you don't. However I do and so do many others based on the comments. The point is that what is the point of a vote when a candidate that many would vote for is not on the list of options?GunsGerms wrote:Exiledinborders wrote:Well done Hogg but whole thing is silly if you are unable to vote for best player Kruis.
