Miami
Draw is out. Projected quarter finals are
Djokovic v Berdych
Federer v Ferrer
Wawrinka v Nadal
Murray v Nishikori
Del Potro playing Pella in the first round...if he wins that then it is Federer.
Kyle Edmund playing Vesely....if he wins that then it is Djokovic.

Edmund through in a third set tie break against Jiri Vesely. Decent result against a player ranked about 30 spots above him. Great opportunity next for him to play with no pressure against Djokovic

Good win for Edmund. Nice to see him come through a close match too. Be good experience to play against Djokovic on a big court.
Looking forward to Delpo v Fed too. Could Delpo win?

mmm highly unlikely me thinks.. but stranger things have happened.
But will make for an interesting match and a yard stick as to how far Delpo has come ..make a change from the usual match ups

Re: Miami
Interesting if Federer is in good enough nick to make the Ferrer match; he's on 16-0 there and tying the record for most consecutive wins against another player (he also has 16-0 v Youzhny but they see unlikely to play).
Of course, this might be Daveeds best chance ever to break the streak.

I'm not sure Ferrer will make it to the Federer match. Fritz might take him out next round...or Cilic later on.
Convinced he's on the way down.

One wonders if Fed is really fully fit yet and is mentioning something else as a reason not to play. Good news for del Potro, though, who might be able to make some real progress here.

No I don't think he would have even travelled to Miami and put hours in on the practice courts if he never intended to play. I'd only agree if he has felt pain in his knee or something but that would be pure supposition.

Honestly this is getting to be a habit, a knee injury there, a stomach bug there. How long are we going to let him get away with these excuses for constantly pulling out of the biggest events?

Coincidence:
Nadal also pulled out with a stomach virus in the first tournament he came back from a knee problem.

The post-op antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines play havoc with the stomach lining. Food content changes can/will trigger such problems many weeks/months later.

Both Heather Watson and Johanna Konta are through to the third round of Miami. Well done to both.
Well done Kyle Edmund for getting to the second round of a Masters tournament and having his first direct taste of the number one player on the planet Novak Djokovic. Loses 6-3 6-3.
Did you know
Kyle Edmund was born in South Africa.
Johanna Konta was born in Australia
Heather Watson was born in Guernsey (not part of the UK nor EU - it is called a crown dependency)

Re: Miami
Edmund played pretty well I think Novak was taking a bit to get used to the crazy change in conditions. As a longtime resident in Southern Ca my body goes into a huge shock when I go from here to the east coast or Europe. The humidity seems to hit you twice as hard, allergies get flared up, your hair looks like you used soul glow, and you sweat like someone has turned on a faucet. I think the players spend a few weeks in Indian wells they get a small taste of that. So while Novak wasn't firing like the last couple rounds last week Edmund still played pretty well.
Very sad for Del Po, that was my feel good story this season I so don't want to see his career end with another nice long run of being among the top.

Then again, I will still take it. My hope is for him to drop out of top 10 by year-end. He is currently #11 in the race, so I do not think it is going to happen, but results like these certainly improve the odds.

Amri, no need to attack me with your "hater" comments. I am no friend of Rafa's game, but I do not hate him as a person. I do not wish ill health upon him, but it is what it is, I cannot make him feel better, I presume his overall well-being is not in real question so no need to feel too sorry for him. And as far as the end result of the tennis match goes, of course I like it. No problem there.

lol it's fine, if it makes you feel any better frankly I'm not surprised you came up with a comment like that. I've seen a lot worse and more vulgar, don't worry about it.

I quite like what I see from Kyrgios. He is not just a random ball basher; his game does have rhyme and reason.

It's true he's not a ball basher, but I have got the impression sometimes that he can just push until suddenly deciding to pull the trigger; he doesn't quite build points in a co-ordinated way.

Re: Miami
Also this is interesting:
Kyrgios is only 3cm taller than Murray.
Yet Kyrgios has a much much bigger serve, while Murray's movement and return of serve is top notch. Kyrgios moves and serves like he's 6'6.

He does not move as well as Andy, but he moves better than he appears to move. He gives this nonchalant vibe which makes it look like he does not really move well, but he is not so bad.It Must Be Love wrote:Also this is interesting:

Yes, he kind of looks like he does not do much with the ball, but he knows where to pick his spots and go on the attack. He does not just randomly bash - there is purpose to it.
Also, I am sometimes amazed how quickly he can pick up the ball - especially on the BH side it is almost half-volleys that he can out of the blue hit really aggressively.

The comment was unnecessary frankly and one that no one else I can think of on this forum would have made.. if you cant say anything nice don't say anything at all. So you don't like Rafa we all know that.. jump up and down with glee that he did not lose he retired through illness. Different altogether.

But instead we've got 75% of this thread concentrating on a poster stating that they were happy for Nadal to go out

Quick note, I didn't punish anyone, or delete anything, I simply reminded you of the house rule on wum posts, given the distasteful nature of the post, and the common knowledge of how fiery one poster is towards posts like that. Change the player to federer and the same comments would cause a war...
I'd rather avoid a blow up before it happens, which as it turned out we
did. People become more interested at venting at me, than turn that into a bad situation.
If you feel you would do a better job of this, you are absolutely welcome to join the moderating team, would take a load off my back, and I say that with complete sincerity.
Sadly ban is right though, Now fedal are out so the usual stuff is out of people systems, let's move on.
Murray in cruise mode it seems
