Classic Fights You've Missed
It's my mates 30th over the weekend of the Haye vs Wlad fight and looks like i'm going away so going to miss it as none of my mates are big boxing fans so will no doubt be in a club at the time of the fight :>(
I'll be gutted if this is a classic and what I want to know is what big fights have you missed where you just couldn't get out of something else and missed what was a classic fight?

Re: Classic Fights You've Missed
I was out on the night of a Benn / Eubank fight and had set the video (remember them?) to record it, hoping to avoid the result (a la the likely lads) and watch it the next day.
All was going well, there I was throwing shapes on the dancefloor when the music stopped, and the DJ announced the result.
Do they still do that nowadays?

Christ, I don't envisage that happening again any time soon Union! Boxing isn't quite in the public eye as it used to be! Shame..really.

That would never happen nowadays - considering only 0.01 of the population watch boxing these days.

Re: Classic Fights You've Missed
I was on a bus from Vientianne to Bangkok when the Hatton vs Tsyzu fight was on.
I was hoping to get back to Bangkok in time to watch the fight so of course the bus promptly broke down about 6 times.
What should have been, if I recall correctly an 8hr journey ended up taking about 15hrs.
Also suffering the indignity of having to do a number 2 in a bush by the roadside added to my woe!!

I missed the Hatton vs Tsyzu fight a few years back as I was on a lengthy bus journey from Vientianne to Bangkok.
To add to my woe it transpired that some animal defecated on a rare plant that I was taking back with me whilst stood at the side of the road.....

I've missed quite a few over the years - thank god for YouTube!
Not once have I stayed awake for a fight live from Vegas.

I was in my local metal club when they announced the death of Kurt Cobain. Don't think there's been a louder cheer in there since!

I missed Skelton Sprott because it was my wedding anniversary and the missus insisted we go out for a meal. Suffice to say the marriage barely survived.

Was that Skelton Sprott 1 or the Prizefighter bout Jeff?
(Obviously it wouldn't have been Skelton Sprott 2)

My Dad, when he was a young lad, was woken by his father at 5am to watch Ali-Liston 2. He had a physics O-level the next day. He sat down whilst my grandfather made a pot of tea. My grandfather woke him up, a few minutes later to ask what the hell had just happened and why the ring was full of people and why Ali was jumping about. Yep - he missed the 1st round 1st minute fight.
For myself - I missed Cotto-Margarito. Watched it on catchup - t'was still good - but not quite the same.

Fell asleep just before FanMan made his famous entrance. Looked at the clock later thinking, "How long has this fight been on?"

I was cursing the FanMan.
Was so tired I had to pace the lounge to avoid falling asleep while they got that silly sod out of the ring.

Coincidentally I also missed hatton tszyu due to being in Thailand - or Vietnam, can't remember exactly where I was now, did a uni footy tour of south America in '05 then me and some mates when off to Thailand, Vietnam, china, australia & new zealand for a couple of months. Missed just about every fight that occurred during that period, although did get to take in some live cage fighting.

Sorry Truss, what i meant to say was I missed hatton v Tyszu as I was in Thailand/Vietnam making love to a long line of questionable prostitutes, crashing my moped into ditches, drinking vomit inducing drinks, taking hallucinogenic drugs, getting regrettable tattoos in downmarket establishments, playing football on the beach at sunrise and generally being the all action, lean mean handsome, Italian blooded, smooth talking, dog whipping, take me as you find me, crazy son of a gun I am.
Is that better?
(There were no snakes though).
