First topic message reminder :

Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.

The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence

So pull up a chair....what'll it be? king

Me too mate. I have my lads (your age) who keep me in choon. Some of my music bores me, never mind the rest of ye younguns.

Seriously T. What kind of music do you really like?

God be with the days, when we used crank up the Pub jukebox and educate each other. Ale Ok!

Ah, I've read back and see we have had a visitor.

Welcome, Custard :ale:

I see Lyn Jones has been appointed head coach at London Welsh. That should further cement the link the Ospreys have been trying to foster. I'll keep an eye on which of the fledgling Os gets loaned out to Welsh - one of the lads in the pub in Ealing is a LW member.

Okay, need outside counsel.

We are having a barbeque this Friday to mark the end of our first year. We are all inviting people from Uni to come. I'm not sure whose idea it was but it wasn't mine.

I've just been told that myself and another guy in the house have to organise the whole thing as the girls organised all the birthday things and we only did small jobs.

Firstly, we were never given a choice as the girls enjoyed doing that and took it upon themselves.
Secondly, I'm not sure how they delegate the responsibility to me considering it wasn't even my idea.
Lastly, I have an exam that finishes just 30 minutes before this BBQ is supposed to happen.

What should I do? Am I being selfish? Or do I have a right to be annoyed about this?

Gibbo, I do my best not to watch the One Show. It's bad enough if I don't change channel before that godawful theme tune starts.

Munsty, if these girls are decent they won't mind at all when you explain to them that your exam means you can't organise the barbecue. And if they're not decent, take Notch's advice and tell them to go and whistle.

I know Stag and Munsty will miss me loads anyway, so I had to pop in and break to them the bad news of my absence. On a course for three weeks that I need to pass. It is a bit of a skullflipper.

Munsty - perhaps by 'organise' they mean buy the stuff. Even that might be unreasonable depending on how many people are attending. And these things can take on ever expanding numbers if people publish it in fizzbok. Make sure that doesn't happen.

There is room for negotiation here I feel. Maybe do the stuff that can be prepped the night before (e.g. marinading), but they will sort out anything that needs doing on the day (e.g. salad prep).

Then you only need one responsible person to light the damn thing and it will be as near as ready to go by the time you get there. Oh, and get pitta bread - takes >1 minute to do them on a barbie.

Failing that, fly de chef in thumbsup

Hold on folks just need to have a rage moment here:

mad furious censored

I hate my agency! I've just had an e-mail off them to say they've not received my rent that was due to come out on the 1st. Just checked my online bank account and it came out on the 1st! I've been with them for a year and never had this problem, why now!??! ARGH!

I have e-mailed them back to say that the money has left my account, and I will go and double check with my bank tomorrow. This is just something I do NOT want to have to deal with this pay month. Bah.

Right, feeling a bit calmer now, could do with an Ale though.....

Its all about preparation Hound. Get the girls to do all the buying, cutting-up, marinading and all the normal girlie stuff. Then, let the men step in and do what the men do best. Talk bollix over the BBQ, like they have just gone out and hunted and killed for the stuff.

Its primeval... but Simple.

And remember... there will always be a Tesco's.

Ha Gibbo that's actually what we did for our BBQ on Sat. My cousin and his friend were responsible for the BBQ itself and us girls just got all the salad stuff etc ready. Sorted.

And what a song Hug diolch/thank you.

And I'm not sure what's gone wrong really. I think maybe it could be that because I've started a new year long contract the standing order has been messed up, but it's showing up as running till May 2012 so I don't think it can be that. But it definitely has left my account. Will just see what the bank says tomorrow. If anyone has messed up here though I'm betting it's the agency! I just don't want to have to pay my June rent again when as far as I'm concerned I've already paid it!!

And Munsty - a very easy to do starter is salsa dip, and I'm about to reveal my years old secret recipe. Actually, anyone could work this out.

Tinned tomatoes, 2 green chilis per tin, a small/medium onion, fresh coriander, salt and lemon juice (optional), tomato puree to 'hold it' a bit. Chuck that lot in a blender, or hack it all to bits and stir it up. Serve with tortilla chips or similar. Also has the benefit of there being something to nibble at if things are taking a while to cook.

Heck - fly me in Very Happy

Good luck bud.

Evening Cari. Trust me, I can do barbie stuff. Chicken tikka and lamb sheekh kebabs a speciality. Also barbie desserts.

1 Peaches and/or fresh pineapple slices with cinnamon. For the peaches, halve them, remove the stone and sprinkle the inside of the peaches with cinnamon. Put the halves of peaches back together. Wrap in foil and cook on the barbie for about 4 minutes. Just sprinkle cinnamon on both sides of pineapple and cook the same.

2 Bananas in butter and rum sauce. Melt the butter in a pan and mix in rum 'to taste' Wink. Just about split the bananas length ways. Place on foil, pour over the sauce then wrap the foil round and cook for about 3 minutes.

Serve any of those with cream or ice cream for those who want it.

Re the BBQ - what exactly is there to organise.

BBQ - check
Food - check
Beer - check

Its not like you have to set tables, polish glasses. They may be inconsiderate but BBQs are easy. You say you have 30 minutes after your exam - what are you going to do with the other 25?

Ask yer Mam Dreamer. Most girls went silly at the mere sight of him - at that time.

Looks like aul Dave - at 63 - still has it.

And Hound, Im Cooke by name and nature. I do most all the cooking in our house. I love having lots of people round for a BBQ in the park or sitting down at home in big groups. Just love it. All the music, wine and food you like - spent with the people you really want to be with.

No gig compares.

Has he really, Hobo? I've always quite liked him. He stirs the pot, of course, but that's no bad thing.
