Re: 2016/17 - Scottish Transfers [Edinburgh|Glasgow|Exiles]
The player I would like to see Edinburgh sign from LI would be the inside centre Johnny Williams. Young player (19 I think), SQ and in a position of need. Problem is he would likely be ruined by Solomons.
Steele could maybe go to Newcastle and get time. Tonks needs to rebuild his value and prove he is a capable 10. Maitland is unlikely to want to come back and has options. Cowan would be good for either Scottish club but could see moving to a club like Bristol.
James Marshall or Hoskins would be interesting choices in the NSQ choice. Marshall could be a back up 10/15 at either club and Hoskins is a young loosehead who may suit Glasgow (although I would prefer Shiells to be moved over to Glasgow).

Williams has been mentioned a lot on here but I think he's WQ and EQ too - he'll probably be in demand
Edinburgh and Glasgow are also well stocked in the centre, especially 12

Edinburgh have announced their departures. OP updated.
Don't know where most of them are going as yet...
Oh and Chris Cusiter will also retire at the season end.

He is a guy who could do well for LS. Edinburgh already have enough squad 13/15 and he burned his bridges at Glasgow.

How long is Tovey expected to last with Edinburgh? He seems to be going well so far.

Just signed on to the end of the season with no word yet on an extension.
I'd be surprised if we didn't try to sign him but he would be signing in the knowledge that Duncan Weir would most likely be first choice. Saying that, who else would he go to if he didn't sign for us?

I thought he left the club before the end of the 2013-2014 season. Seemed a bit strange how he disappeared leading into the last game of the season and the playoffs. Thought he went off to Namibia or something before signing for Exeter.
If he has not burned them...he is not a terrible option for Glasgow to compete with Murchie for back up full back and Vernon for back up 13. Would have preferred Bryce or Fergusson though. Feel he makes more sense for LS.

Jeezo, you could make 2 squads from the number of players at that would be 'good options' for London Scottish to sign!

So Maitland rumoured to be joining Saracens. If true then he'll be competing with Alex Goode at 15, would that mean current fullback understudy Ben Ransome would move on elsewhere, he's SQ apparently, would Glasgow be interested now Bryce has moved to Edinburgh?

Always easier to tout players to lower level clubs. Glasgow and Saracens can be a bit more discerning!

I don't know, but I was hoping he'd be back with us. Wishful thinking perhaps. If Weir is away with Scotland then Tovey is a very good option to have.

I think you'll find most Edinburgh supporters would rather have Tovey start irrespective of what Weir was doing.mikey_dragon wrote:RDW_Scotland wrote:Just signed on to the end of the season with no word yet on an extension.

Potentially, but given that Weir's move is most likely orchestrated from the very top of the SRU I'd be surprised if he moved to Edinburgh and found himself sitting on the bench again to a Welshman.
I also think he'll do OK for Edinburgh - he is much more in his comfort zone in terms of his style of play.

That would be a super move for Maitland and a great fit if he's happy to play wing. Ransom starts quite a lot at 15 for Sarries, so I wonder whether they'll see Maitland as another wing come full back, like they seem to with Wyles?

I agree with the SRU point but Solomons has shown himself to be his own man on a number of occasions and I think he'd play Tovey into the ground if he thought it was the best thing to do.RDW_Scotland wrote:des wrote:I think you'll find most Edinburgh supporters would rather have Tovey start irrespective of what Weir was doing.mikey_dragon wrote:RDW_Scotland wrote:Just signed on to the end of the season with no word yet on an extension.

Bit of a shame that Laidlaw move, would have been nice for him and Scott to play together again, see if they could build up some kind of understanding of each others game. Ah well.

It would be a wonderful move for wee Greg. Delighted for him. Parra and Laidlaw would be a pretty awesome couple of options at 9 for the Massif too. By that time you'd hope Pygros, SHC and Price would be close to taking over in the dark blue too.

Re: 2016/17 - Scottish Transfers [Edinburgh|Glasgow|Exiles]
I see Andrew Davidson has signed up for the Newcastle academy for next year.
Maybe not a bad move for him, as there are a lot of decent locks at Glasgow and he was going to struggle to break through there. They seem to have put their money on Cummings and Hunter-Hill. Davidson is showing a bit of ambition by moving.
Newcastle are likely to put him out to one of their feeder clubs to get some game time in the short term, maybe even into the championship if he is deemed good enough. Good to see Newcastle keeping up their interest in Scottish players.

The rumour page and the Newcastle fans seem to suggest they are losing 2 of their locks next season in Furno and Thompson. They have an up and coming English u20 and an unproven American in their stead. The other locks listed on Wiki suggest Robinson, Green and Botha are making up the depth chart (assuming McLeod is finished). Davidson has a good shot of game time there if he is ready. There are 2 other locks in their academy supposedly, one of whom is a Scot (Glen Young).

Glen Young has been in the falcons academy for a couple years now, played a few first team games as well. Been out on loan to one of the championship teams and has been getting good game time, mostly at No 8 I think. Quite a big unit from what I remember but pretty athletic too having started out as a full back for Jed.

Could somebody have a word with Mr Mesmeric Try about the title of this thread?
Such inability to use the Olivetti typewriter keys is utterly shocking and brings down the whole tone of the place.
I would have copied the aforementioned title but me and the Quote function button still aren't talking to each other.
p.s. Huw Jones will look good in a warriors jersey if his three week audition in Japan goes well.

Glasgow Warriors have signed Fiji international scrum-half Nemia Kenatale on a one-year deal, subject to a visa and medical.
Kenatale, who is in the Fiji squad for the upcoming Pacific Nations Cup, has 37 caps for his country and has scored seven tries.Nemia Kenatale has 37 caps for Fiji
The 30-year-old will arrive in Glasgow this summer having spent two seasons playing in Romania for Steaua Bucuresti and Farul Constanţa.
He has also represented New Zealand ITM Cup side Southland Stags and was included in the Highlanders wider training group.
Kenatale was selected in the Fiji Rugby World Cup squad in England last year, scoring a try in the win over Uruguay and was Fiji's first-choice scrum-half at the 2011 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
He is the latest new signing for the 2016/17 season, joining hooker Corey Flynn and winger Leonardo Sarto, while prop Jarrod Firth and fly-half Rory Clegg have already arrived ahead of the new campaign.
Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming Nemia to Glasgow this summer.
“He is an experienced scrum-half, having played regularly for Fiji over the last few seasons.
“He excels in the fundamentals of scrum-half play – getting quickly to rucks and passing accurately to his stand-off.
“Like most Fijians, Nemia thrives when the tempo of a game is high, which is the way we aspire to play.
“With Mike Blair retiring we’re delighted Nemia has agreed to join us to compete with the other scrum-halves at the club."

“With Mike Blair retiring we’re delighted Nemia has agreed to join us to compete with the other scrum-halves at the club."
At least there will be one Weegie from Fiji at Scotstoun next season.

Shame they couldn't find a younger version to help develop, rather than a guy who is 30 already and has been playing what sounds like a fairly low standard of rugby recently

Probably a better option to have than Blair who I was surprised to see playing the season just gone. Assuming couple more signings on the cards? However, if not, may be good enough squad to finish top 4 again. Europe though..

Kenatale is old yet perfect for a one year deal as a backup. Let's face it, unless he sets the heather on fire, he'll be 4th choice.
Price is fantastic but not the finished article yet so maybe it's not the season to be blooding another academy prospect (like that u20s fella Fraser something). And more importantly, and most likely, cheap to hire for an international scrum half.
According to wikipedia - Steaua București (semi-pro club) had 3 foreign international players last season Kenatale being one of them. The other are Malakai Ravulo (Flanker - Fiji - 36 caps) and Sefo Sakalia (Hooker - Tonga - 2 caps).

So any rumours about where the various released Edinburgh players (Fife, Te Rure etc etc) might be headed next?

There was a rumour that Cardiff were interested in Fife.
God knows why, mind you.

He'll be perfect..........if you need two tries in the last 30 seconds to win a match.

Surely Fife would be a prime candidate for LS, who are now desperate for players. Even Te Rure could potentially do a job for them as an impact sub, certainly in the better conditions at the start and end of the season (just don't ask him to manage a game on a rainy cold November afternoon!).

Fife may end up snapped up by the 7s (if there is funding made available).
Can't imagine full time 7s salaries or LS salaries are very much though - especially for an internationalist with 6 caps!

I don't think he'll get very far calling himself an international rugby player when it comes to salary negotiations!

If Maitland goes to Sarries and Cowan to Bath as is rumoured then they will both have done quite well out of the LI shambles.
Both will have to fight quite hard for game time though, which may not do them any harm.
