Doesn't London deserve better than this ??
Be a relief to most Londoners I'm sure that this disgraceful London Mayoral election will be over very soon...
Descended unfortunately into accusations of pitiful racial baiting and counter accusations of race card playing...As we knew it would...
Heaven forbid Londoners may want to know about housing..transport and other integral policies that may affect their day to day lives...
My advice is vote for one of the fringe parties or stay at home...
When the kiddies from the two big parties learn how to debate properly then reward them with a vote..

Re: Doesn't London deserve better than this ??
I wasn't going to get involved in this one. But now I suddenly have the urge to, for the fun of it.
This madness of amateur-dramatic, over-reactions and yelps of "ban him", "silence him" "burn him at the stake" are pitiful in this 21st century whenever anyone offers a comment that others don't agree with.
The danger is not the comments of Livingstone or whoever else cares to have an opinion on a topic - the danger is the usual hordes of Freedom-of-Speech-Censors who step into the limelight to get their 10 seconds of righteous indignation hobnailed boots in. They are the dangerous ones.
History happened. History is up for debate. All of it. We will not forget any of it simply because some now find it expedient that no comparisons with a grim past can be made to a grim present.
Yes, one can openly call Livingstone an idiot if you believe his opinion to be so, one can argue with him and prove his ignorance of facts if one has facts at hand - but don't dare threaten him with the 'consequences' of Free Speech. If one doesn't want to hear Free Speech, if the sound of it offends one's ears, then one should go live in some of the numerous countries on the planet that still don't allow it.
Livingston's right to have an opinion in turn Protects Everyone's Right to have one
..... eejits

Of course you would. Going on the other thread shenanigans, you seem to be on the streets with the emotional rabble screaming for evil Livingstone's head? How dare he mention the War?... how dare he mention the word 'Hitler', how dare he mention Jews and Palestinians in the one breath?
It's both a laugh... and dangerous as hell.

He's heavily involved in the 'racial baiting' point reproduced above on Truss's opening comment.

Unless the remarks were aimed at Goldsmith I don't see the relevancy....
But let's move on..

There's an argument to say the result doesn't even matter that much. On the one hand the London Mayor holds tremendous power, but on the other there's little he/she can actually do in respect of the major issues.
Transport? Powerless as can't prevent trade union action.
Housing? Powerless as unable to call in every single development proposal therefore local councils will continue to make the bulk of decisions and therefore will continue to do what they was (Islington sticking rigidly to 40% and 30:70; others happy to accept s106 pay-offs or off-site). Regulation & possible stymying of the BTL market is controlled by central goverment and supply will be affect by the performance of national & international economies.
Healthcare/NHS? Powerless - central government.
Taxation? Powerless. Centralised and UKG can't afford to have London not subsidising the rest of the country.
Only real influence is in policing and maybe some environmental matters.

Interesting how Boris has completely failed to curb pollution in London, then.

Hence why I said 'some'.
Boris (or maybe Ken) dealt with congestion charges and LEZ etc. Next Mayor can do similar. Some have suggested banning diesal vehicles for example. But it is all quite limited.

London needs a huge re-think on pollution. I was there weekend before last just for a few days and it's disgusting now.

By the way that's not for the benefit of your arguments. I just thought it's a very boris thing to do and it tickled me

Yep, some serious work is needed, but it's a metropolis so no point making out like it should be some kind of leafy green countryside oasis.
Personally I'd like to see Oxford Street pedestrianised from Marble Arch to TCR for starters. All public transport & black cabs to be electric (doubt feasible but would like it all the same) and greater efforts made to encourage cycling. Also make LEZ more aggressive.

If you go on xvideos.com you'll see they're aggressive enough as it is.

Get yourself a Lenova yoga 3 Pro so you can project xvideos onto her behind while she sleeps. The key to enjoying life is to live dangerously.
