The opposite of Boris then.
It's probably the most weird period in the history of the world.

As the Chinese insult goes:
May you live in interesting times...
Honestly can't see Gove winning the leadership, as he comes across as a bit of a swivel-eyed lunatic, but something has clearly happened behind the scenes between him and BoJo (most likely Boris saying that he wouldn't actually invoke Article 50) that means he felt compelled to torpedo Boris's quest for the leadership.
In a way, I think May could be the ideal leader for the coming period - she's not tarred with the brush of over-promising and under-delivering on the Leave campaign, so probably has more scope for negotiation with the EU than the Leave campaign leaders. She probably does need one of the more stident 'Leave' supporters as a deputy (Crabb?), and I think she walks the party election. If she wins that and Labour stick with Corbyn, she should call a General Election in the next few months, and really cement the Conservatives in place as the Government.
As for Labour, if they retain Corbyn, they can kiss goodbye to any credibility as a potential party of Government for the next decade, and probably will end up with another lefty Labour and SDP style schism.

Now look, just because one city had a turn-out of 147%, it doesn't mean that the result isn't valid.
And just because an extra 200,000 postal votes were conjured out of thin air, it doesn't mean that the result isn't valid.
And just because, of those magic 200,000 postal votes, Hofer only got 13% of them in a tight-race, it doesn't mean that the result isn't valid.
So there!

Carswell is a man with no moral courage, he won't stand for leader. Hopefully he will be kicked out of UKIP soon, along with that other bint Suzanne Evans.
Paul Nuttall isn't popular enough. Tim Aker is too young. Very few rate Diane James.
Steven Woolfe is the clear front-runner and should be victorious. I'm all over the 7/2 which should go tumbling towards evens over the next few days.

Conservative Party leader preference (Con members):
A. Leadsom: 38%
T. May: 37%
M. Gove: 13%
S. Crabb: 6%
L. Fox: 5%
(via ConHome)
If Leadsom can hang on till the final two, she is in with a great chance.

May top after the first round with roughly half the MPs in her corner. Liam Fox eliminated, and Crabb threw in the towel.
Gove pretty much nowhere, suspect he's hanging on for an offer to endorse a candidate in exchange for a top job at this stage.

Whatever are you talking about, I haven't noticed any change in the general mood of the Nation. I have noticed a rise in number of keyboard economists crawling out of the woodwork offering financial advise in their downtime when they've taken a break from shuffling meaningless bits of papers about in an attempt to look busy when the Boss is about (I know, because I'm a black belt in this)SecretFly wrote:Join in Dave. But, hey, I enjoy a good sing-a-long as much as the next man...unless I'm sat next to John Redwood in which case I'd also be wondering why my life has just taken a turn for the creepy.

As expected.
May's supporters fear Leadsom more than Gove, so I wouldn't be surprised if Gove got a spike in votes on Thursday to ensure that he faces May when the contest gets opened out to the Tory membership.

Unemployment benefit is 0.4 Percent of total spending....2.4 billion out of a 587 billion expenditure....I imagine a good deal of that money goes to genuine cases..
5 billion is stashed offshore every year...

Just as I thought.
Mr. Woolfe is actually best-priced at evens, with several bookmakers making him the odds-on favourite. This was somewhat helped out by Mr. Nuttall ruling himself out today (a great relief).

This Eagle woman is dreadful. What are the major policy differences (between her and Corbyn), is what she is asked on three separate occasions - three times she doesn't answer.
Encouraging, isn't it?

Unless an Umunna, Jarvis or D.Miliband were willing to chance it, its hard to see any legitimate contenders to Corbyn. The whole thing is farcical, wouldn't surprise me if the Labour party split in 2. How Corbyn can see most of his shadow cabinet resign and carry on is beyond me.

As for Labour, I think their in such a mess, they don't have anyone useful who could step up, it's very low quality in terms of politicians at the moment, The Tories seem to have loads of decent people in the commons.

The Tories, Labour, Lib Dems, Green, SNP, Plaid Cymru will all be representing the 48%.
It's only UKIP who are there for the 52%. Let's hurry up and get Mr. Woolfe in as leader - a serious task awaits.

Some will want a democratic process whatever the outcome. Think it's important the various parties now set out what they will do/plan to do around an EU exit (or lack of one). All very well saying 52% want out but those 52% don't want the same outcome of that exit.
