I just don't see the point in spending a chunk of budget on him. He's good, but they have Zaha, Bolasie, Puncheon, Sako already.

I'm not overly convinced by Mkhitaryan but Kagawa was signed for one very obvious reason at the time whereas this a purely footballing transfer.

he's been playing at a high level longer than kagawa, who just had a brief run of good form (been nowhere near as successful second spell). mkhitaryan was also playing well at shakhtar before dortmund, so has adapted to other leagues before. added to it that he's bit more physical than kagawa think he'll be more of a success

Not overly convinced on Mhkriyartan. Good season last year, pretty poor the year before & being good in Ukraine, means little. Think Mane will end up being the better signing of the two, if Mhkriyartan is played wide right, think you need that pace to really have have an impact in this league.

He's a 10, Mkhr is playing wider. Also, David Silva is twice the player of this Armenian anyway. He's ended up at United & no Champs Lge side has touched him, says everything.
Guest- Guest
Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
silva has played wide for large parts of his city career, very rarely played 10 under pellegrini. mata, modric, lampard all been great success in this league playing in attacking positions without pace. pace is not needed to be success in this league

Arsenal were never in for him, didn't even make a bid. Arsenal looked at Mkhitaryan, but walked away after his agent said he wanted £200k a week. They will end up with Mahrez anyway.

Players simply use the Champions League as an excuse to divert away from the fact they've moved for money, very few teams can compete against us so they don't bother trying.

He got the most assists of any player in the top leagues of Europe, the only reason other clubs didn't bid was because early on his agent stated his heart was set on Utd.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
He's a wonderful player. Will he operate from wide or behind the striker? I can't see Jose playing a four of Zlatan and then in behind Martial, Mkhitaryan, Rashford.
Regardless, wonderful player. Two very high quality signings and another interesting one. I'd read originally he wanted four in. Pogba may be a bonus one that they are buying based on quality not a squad need. I still think the defence needs looking at.

No, it doesn't
United's midfield looks horrible, in terms of the defensive side. Carrick is an OAP & injury prone, Bastian's legs have gone, Morgan hasn't settled, Fellaini will surely be sold & then you have Rooney, who is horrible in CM. That's what need improving, not the defence.
Guest- Guest
Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
To be fair, it probably does as well. Smalling is improving every season, and Shaw is an excellent prospect coming off a major injury. Outside of that theres a bunch of useful players at best.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
No it doesn't, mate, Liam has told me. If a defence is gonna go in with Bailly and Fosu-Mensah and expect to get champions league then I'd say have another look at what you can do for it

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Fosu was actually quality last season, in fact the younger stars of United were their better players. I won't wait for the United fans on here to back me up, they never pipe up against the established in here. You obviously have never seen Bailly play, just making a judgement on him & doubting him. Not really going to agree with someone who thinks Walker is good & can defend.
Guest- Guest
Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Don't think he can defend well to be honest, just think it's amazing you think that defence can't be looked at. I saw him, I thought he was OK in his stints, but he's young and relatively untested. Bailly is young and inexperienced and never played in England so it's a risk too.
There's no conspiracy here, I just don't agree with you. You're gonna have to get over it

Yeah, think that's good for them. Seems he's choosing to stay in England over some bigger clubs that want him. The shame for me is that I wanted him if Payet went.
Clubs are acting fast though, which worries me as we dither over our main position of worry.

I'd go with that. Our defence had a decent record last year but our possession play goes a long way towards that, plus some of the saves De Gea pulled off. Fosu mensah could be used at centre back but I see his future more in the midfield
Darmian had a hit and miss season. Started incredibly well but seemed to become unsettled, I know there was talk he missed Italy though so I could see him going back so a RB is a must, unless Bailly of Fosu Mensah plays there and another CB comes in. Shaw and Borthwick Jackson at left back are two I'm happy with
A lot will depend on who Mourinho gets rid of. A CM is a must and I would like to add a more experienced CB at the back (especially given our record of defensive casualties over previous seasons)

Glad we got in Batshuayi today.
Interested to see who else Conte brings in now that his focus is purely on Chelsea.
I'm also interested to see what system he plays there, I know everyone may say 3-5-2 understandably but i don't know if he would be willing to push Azpilicueta out of the team considering he has been one at the best at the club for like the last 2-3 years (maybe not so much last year).

Something is going on with Pogba, he's removed 'Juventus player' from his Twitter bio and he's stopped following them on Twitter.
I'm hoping it's to us, I'm expecting it's to Real.

Leicester are signing Ahmed Musa for a club record fee. I've liked him, every time I've seen him play - real threat

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Mata really needs the side to be built around him I feel to get the best out of him, think it'd be an absolutely fantastic signing for Everton. Mata pulling strings in the middle with their pacy wingers could be really effective.

Man U after Will Hughes from Derby for £7m. He's definitely worth that, though is he good enough for Utd? More like an Arsenal player from what I've seen of him. Pretty but not that effective.
