First topic message reminder :

Was going to wait a couple of weeks but it's already kicking off today...

Bayern Munich have nabbed what was regarded as one of Man Utd's main transfer targets and signed the 18 year old wonderkid Renato Sanches from Benfica for £28m.

Pelle is too embarrassed to return to the PL or Italy to be honest after the penalty. Hoping they didn't see it in China + he's getting old, so looking for a massive last pay day.

I doubt Southampton can rely on Austin, too injury prone. I'm expecting a tough year for Southampton, bubble was always going to burst.

Everyone has said that each year about Southampton though even when they get raided every year for their players, they always seem to do a good job and bring the right players in to compete, I certainly won't be counting them out of anything.

Also signed Pierluigi Gollini from Hellas Verona.
Had to youtube him, looks ok, although they were relegated.

3 signings so far, can only realyy conment on Elphick as not heard of other two.

Hopefully they will hit the ground running.

Probably need another midfielder and a forward as Ayew strongly linked with Galatasaray.

Linked again with Bamford who i would be happy with.

Think we have gon quiet on McCormack.

In the merry go round of West Ham's attempts to land attacking options:

Tore should be announced on initial loan tomorrow. Bacca and Ben Yedder look like the two attacking targets. Sakho has handed in a transfer request and Valencia seems almost certainly on his way too.

Seems Utd's pockets too deep for Madrid in the Pogba fight. Fair enough. We spent a lot of money on Rodriguez and Bale in the last three years so good to be frugal.

In any case we got Kroos. Couldn't convince me that Pogba is five times the price and twice the wages

Struggle to remember many passes that were particularly incisive to be honest.

Regardless, the price part is irrelevant as a comparison as Kroos had run down his deal and was leaving the next summer. Reality of the PLs ever rising financial dominance is everyone knows they have so much dollar. Nobody should ever take a cut price deal from a PL side again.

Even Middlesborough are signing guys like Valdes and Subotic.

dont really see the fuss with what it costs, we got plenty of money and as a fan it isnt going to effect me directly. rather the money go on players like pogba than in glaziers back pocket

when you got the likes of palace being linked with 30 million pound transfers is 100 mil that much difference to united? in terms of the clubs its probably a smaller fee to us

It's just money, and they have loads. And they're down in a place where they have to bully people with that financial muscle cos no one in the top echelons is desperate to play for them.

He's suited to exactly what they need though

From the sounds of things the club are worried about his attitude, so I'd guess it depends on if we sign someone higher up our targets list. I'd love him here but don't think it's likely.

Crimey, has Jordan Ibe rejected Bournemouth? Apparently, we offered you Wijnaldum, in exchange for Ibe, but it was rejected. Bournemouth then came in & offered £15m. We could go back & offer you Sissoko now, in exchange for Ibe. I'm not a massive fan of Ibe, still young, but at least he'd offer us pace & width.

He's not rejected, supposedly waiting to see if anybody else comes in for him. At £15 million, I'm not sure we'll get any other offers, but who knows? Suspect he'll end up leaving for Bournemouth.

I wouldn't want any player from Newcastle in exchange to be honest. Doubt the club would accept it either.

Ibe did really well at Derby in the Championship so I think he'd be a very good signing for Newcastle.

Can't believe Pelle will earn £13.6million a year in China, making him the joint-fifth highest paid player in the world.

I wish I could mess up at work, embarrass myself, let down my country & be rewarded like this, the following week.

Marseille have entered into talks with Aston Villa over midfielder Idrissa Gueye, having triggered his £7.1million release clause.

The problem was he was played way too deep all tournament, he is not a defensive midfielder. He makes things happen further up the field, the only time they played him in his right position he hit the woodwork twice against Switzerland and set up Griezmans second against Germany.

Deschamps really blew it with his selections.

Giroud + £40m for Higuain being mooted. Enjoyed Gonzo during his time at the Bern, and he scored a few goals on my rare forays into the motherland that is Madrid, which doesn't hurt... but I can't help but think of the fact that he really can go missing.

Higuain also reportedly being offered €650k/week by an unnamed Chinese club. The world has officially decided fuc.k realistic, lets go mad

It's clearly a big step up nowadays from the Eredivisie but he just looks so suited to the Premier League.

I think the good thing for him about going to Spurs is that most of the pressure is still going to be on Kane, so it's not a disaster if he doesn't hit the ground running.

To be honest, apart from the penalty against England, he was in the back pocket of England's defence that night. Always have question marks over strikers from the Eredivisie. Much like Aleksandar Mitrovic, who banged loads of goal & was physically suited, much depends upon how they settle & the service. I doubt Janssen will be playing week in, week out, so will not get the rhythm he's used too & Spurs are not a side that cross the ball too much, similar to Newcastle, who had no wingers & didn't play to the strengths of Mitrovic.

You could argue, Spurs have spent nearly £30m on two players, that don't actually improve the first eleven.

It does improve the depth of their squad significantly though which was one of their problems last season. When they got further in the Europa League, they had to give up on it to focus on the Premier League. Presumably they won't want to do the same with the Champions League.

They noticeably tired towards the end of the season too - and behind Kane have literally no depth. Think this window is about building a squad for Spurs, and allowing the first XI to continue developing

In other news Norwich are expected to announce the signing of Sergi Canos for 2.5m (plus add ins) today

Exactly, squad depth is one of those things that I think sometimes doesn't get enough focus on. I'm probably just obsessed with it because if Liverpool had better options than Voronin and N'Gog the 08/09 season may have ended very differently.

Is there any other league that generates the 'well a previous player for that league didn't make it in the Premier League so based on that individual then no others could possibly do it' quite like the Eredivisie argument?

Something about the Italian league bothers people too. But it's the fact the Dutch league is lower in quality, you'd be daft not to wonder.

However, great business for Spurs in my opinion. I fully agree that they now need depth. It's often overlooked but it's slightly what we're doing too. I do think Poch is a bit poor with his squad use at times, so desperate to carry out the same instructions with his chosen best eleven, but if he can build around it to his liking then they could well win the league.

Personally think acquiring back up players, instead of improving the first eleven will backfire. That Spurs first eleven is not good enough to even beat Leicester's last year & win the league, in what was a poor season, so to me, that first eleven will easily be the fourth of fifth best first eleven in the PL, once the big boys have closed their cheque books this summer.

You just have to look at Depay, who's arguably twice the player of Janssen, to understand why the Eredivisie signings are questioned. Even Wijnaldum, away from home for Newcastle.

For every Suarez & Ibrahimovic there is an Afonso Alves & Memphis Depay

Some will work out others won't.
