Both myself and Mat have both heard West Brom are waiting for us to buy a striker before selling you lot Sakho. £15m? Touch is poor but he'll be popular if his bad attitude doesn't pop up. Guys turned into a right swine with us after a good start, but is enjoyable to watch as he never stops working

And in turn, we won't sell Saido until his replacement is sorted.
Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Sakho & Rondon would be a decent partnership, with Phillips providing the service on a plate.
Apparently, we haven't bid for Ciaran Clark, if we had, then Pulis' record of never being relegated, would be under serious threat.

Bit surprising if we keep Clarke.
Think he is a decent bloke, but I would have Elphick & Okore as the starting centre backs.
Then you have Toner who I would like to see more of and also Baker.
Clarke would be down pecking order for me.

Newcastle have agreed a £5.5m deal for Grant Hanley. I imagine that fee will increase with add-ons. Good addition & competition for Mbemba & Lascelles.

Blackburn must've bit your hand off when you offered that.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Hanley's a good player. But 5.5m is Ross McCormack excessive for this division for a player like him.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Blackburn thought they were going to start a bidding war with Norwich, Newcastle & Sheff Wed. They wanted near £8m, so obviously Norwich & Sheff Wed bailed out. £5.5m is pretty decent, given the market. He was a model of consistency last season, good defender, a leader & has the experience of the Championship. Given that Newcastle will likely make £50m out of Sissoko & Wijnaldum, money isn't really a worry for them.

Grant Hanley really isn't a good defender - didn't even know we were linked tbf, but thank god we missed out

If they can get him to recreate his early form for Manchester City, that's an excellent signing.

Wijnaldum withdrawn from tonight's game & with Spurs ending their interest, hopefully it means Liverpool will be taking him for £25m in the next few days.

Where would Atletico get that kind of money considering heavily in debt?

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Peter Kenyon has turned that club around over the past two years or so. La Liga's first-ever collective domestic television deal (reportedly worth €2.65 billion) has just kicked in, which will lead to money being distributed more evenly among its 20 clubs. In Atletico's La Liga-winning season, the club earned €42m from television income, but according to some media estimates, this could increase to €116m under the new arrangements. Throw in two champions league final appearances & the club has been rewarded financially & by selling Jackson Martinez.
It's been confirmed they bid 60m euros for Higuain

Looks like they agreed on 120 million euros (so slightly over £ 100 million). Other details to be negotiated in the coming days.

Speaking of having to embarrassingly overpay for a young player you let go a few years ago, Chelsea have offered around 50m for Lukaku apparently.

Di Marzio, so can't exactly be believed. Conte said Costa was going nowhere & they've just signed Michy B.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
The Lukaku thing is fine, more or less even money when you consider new tv deal.
Pogba is a disaster, 4 years after leaving on a free being resigned for £100 million. He'll go to Madrid or barca on a free when his contract expires or reject us.
Last lot of transfer records figo, zidane, kaka, ronaldo, bale - pogba isn't half the player any of them where. Ridiculous from United, should leave him at juve and spend the money else where.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
If you remove the exchange rate effect Pogba is basically worth 2 Martial(s) which makes this transfer a bit less shocking (that's assuming Martial will have scored 25 goals by 2019).
The inflation on fees went up a gear last year so can't really compare with transfers that were happening before.

As expected, Wijnaldum going to Liverpool for £25m. Good deal for us, made £11m profit on him.

The Pogba fee in perspective to turnover of the club is less than what City paid for Jo.

I'm not taking his side, I'm saying he's got egg on his face. His stubbornness meant they let Pogba go because they didn't want to pay him that much, now United are buying him back for over £100 million pounds and likely he'll be their best paid player ever.

Question is which is more important to Man Utd, owners, and fans
100m or 13 titles, 2 CLs and 5 FA cups
I think they'll forgive him

I think he'll probably shrug and think of all the winning.
Everton and Juve will meet Newcastle's Sissoko valuation. Newcastle making £60m this summer in the championship on two average players. Has there even been an easier job in football than Rafa's task at Newcastle this year?

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
DZ, I think you really are over-exaggerating how easy it will be for Newcastle this season. Not convinced we will walk the league at all, especially after some of the stuff I saw last night.
As for Wijnaldum, he isn't average at all, surprised at that statement. He showed his class & ability to score goals last season in a poor side. Got no doubt, that playing in a top side, he will only get better & better. If Juve come calling with Pogba's money, Ashley will rinse them of the full £35m

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
He's average by the standards they are shopping in, I mean. Hes fine, but overpriced and I wouldn't be looking at their team and putting him in it.
Barnsley have haggled with Rochdale over a player for less than a million. Newcastle spent over £20m on two players without blinking, and if these deals go through will have recouped £70m in transfers on three players.
They have by far the best squad, and money from parachute payments and transfers to add to it. They shouldn't even stumble. I remember how tricky that league can be, but our squad was as poor as I've ever seen it and we made one notable transfer move. Newcastle should win at a canter. Blooming Brighton nearly won the thing last year!
Wouldn't worry about pre-season, last good one we had was under Avram Grant...

Not really what happened, we signed him from Le Havre at 16 on a 3 year deal which was too short.
When he was ready for first team football he was in the last year of his contract and wouldn't sign, when he said he would sign he was selected, his agent then said he wanted 60k a week and he wasn't signing. He then wasn't selected and became unhappier about not playing and left.
Sadly the club hasn't learned from it as both januzaj and rashford have been approaching the end of their contracts when breaking through and ended up getting big money deals rushed through. I think januzai is on 55k a week at the moment.

Grant Hanley has signed for Newcastle. Just to add to the Wijnaldum deal, PSV added a sell on clause & it appears will receive around £5m from the deal.
