What's the story with Enrique? I thought he was a really good player then he seemed to disappear off the face of the earth. Was it injury, bad form, something I missed?

He was Liverpool'd. I wouldn't be surprised if we bring in a young player and an experienced cheap one. We've wanted cover for Cresswell anyway, the injury just speeds it up. Also, our season starts tonight so we have a bit more incentive to get a player in

He got injured, then fell out favour with Rodgers. He never seemed to have the motivation to really get properly fit and ready to play again. He was basically just happy to sit and take his wages, play FIFA online, go on nice holidays etc.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/jose-enrique-snubs-newcastle-reunion-7288670
He then basically admitted that he was staying because no one in Spain would pay him the same as Liverpool:
Jose Enrique wrote:“I had a very good option to return to Spain, but is complicated because the economy is very different from what exists here.
“The only teams that can deal with what is paid in England are Real Madrid and Barcelona, so I would love to stay here until my legs stop me.”

To be honest, they will now sell players like Schweinsteiger, Fellaini, Darmian & Januzaj types & make a quick £50m back.

Whilst some of those players are rumoured to be leaving it would leave us short squad wise.
Rest of the window is going to be interesting.

After a rip-roaring start to our season in the Europa League, it looks like we may be in for Swansea's Ayew. I'd heard we were in for Villa's Ayew too so i'm confused, but also delighted at the thought of having two Ayew's because that just seems funny

Andre Ayew for £16m is the rumour. I would be thoroughly disappointed if I was a WHU fan, after what has unfolded this summer. Think you've stagnated.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
He'll be a Valencia replacement, and as Valencia is awful I would take it all day long.
Think that's harsh. Signed 3 relative first teamers in Tore, Feghouli and Nordtveit, whilst bringing in good youth. The striker search has been really difficult, but it's not over and has only been so cos we've shot higher than we maybe should have. If we wanted Benteke he'd be ours by now, but we seem to be aiming higher, which we will have to wait to judge.

Heard Darren Gough talking about how Pogba is three players rolled into one because he can head a ball, break up play and pick a pass. Yeah, I'm sure he can also catch a ball Goughie but I wouldn't ask him to play in goal, you thick c***

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
I think Andre Ayew would be a good signing, tailed off a little, but he was really good for Swansea at times. Doubt that means West Ham are done searching for a forward - like Dolphin says, he'll be a Valencia replacement. Can play up front or on the wing.
West Ham should just sign Benteke and get on with it.

If West Ham do sell Payet, they shouldn't sell him for less than £40mill.

I've doubts about payet, getting on and I think a lot of his drive was to prove people wrong/get in the French team for 2016. Can see him tailing off.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
It's 1.6 Gayles which doesn't seem as bad, and Ayew is gonna cost us £20m. New prices, the inflation is mad. That's two record transfers I think, both for players that may not go into the first XIs of each club.
But Sakho doesn't want to play for us and has faked numerous injuries, so it's good money for us to get

Rumours we've activated a release clause (£3m) in Mohamed Diame's contract. Straight up replacement for Sissoko. At 29, not a great long term option, but he has that championship experience.

Diame. Oh Mo. Started to kick up a fuss at ours cos he wanted to play Champions League football.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Yeah, I'm not hugely over excited with the news, always thought he was pretty clumsy, but at £3m, given this market & him banging 10 goals for Hull last season, I can see the appeal. He can do pretty much what Sissoko does, but a more effective finisher.
We still need Knockaert, I'd expect we will offer £12m for him this week.

Diame is either a magician or a blind moron, but he does score goals and will do so effectively in the champ. At £3m in this market it's a no brainer

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Manchester City close to signing Leroy Sane for £37 million.
Hart
Sagna - Stones - Kompany - Clichy
Fernandinho
Gundogan - Silva?
De Bruyne - -- - -- - - -- - - -- Sane
Aguero
Guessing their line up will look something like that? Still think they look really weak in central midfield, hence why I'm suggesting Guardiola might start playing Silva deeper in the side. Can't see him using Toure that much this year, wouldn't be shocked if he's sold this summer.
They have decent depth in the attacking midfield positions with Sterling, Nolito, Navas and Nasri but Fernando and Delph are hardly the type of players that are going to push City on in Europe as surely is their aim? They look pretty weak at full back as well to be honest - all of them are past their best.

Wouldn't they be more likely to play with Gundogan alongside Fernandinho with Silva Sane and De Bruyne as the 3 behind Aguero?

It seems it's £4.5m the release clause. Hull are offering him a new deal to try & keep him. Not really fussed which way this goes

I'm just going off of the fact that Guardiola has rarely played with a 4-2-3-1. I'm assuming, at least at the start, he'll go for 4-3-3. Whether he'll then start doing the weird stuff he did with Bayern will depend on how quickly the players adapt to it.

Everton to sign Ashley Williams apparently. Think it's a poor signing to be honest, he's 32 and coming off a tournament where he was more hype than substance. Think he was actually the worst of the 3 CBs to be honest.

Always good to sign a CB who's 32 and so good nobody has ever stumped up the not huge amount of money it'd take to prize him away from Swansea. Very disappointed if I was an Everton fan so far this window - no better than when Kenwright was in charge

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 16/17
Truly shocking
It was a really exciting & promising start to this window. Now, I've sensed Rafa losing the plot slightly & just targeting average players & spending for no reason. £5m down the toilet, hope he breaks his leg in his first training session. Lascelles, Mbemba, Hanley, I'd even have Dummett ahead of Clark.
