Not sure Sibley could also be accommodated unless we have a night of the long knives.
The problem with going with only 4 main bowlers is that they all need to be fully firing, in terms of both fitness and accuracy - that would worry me.
The way I feel atm I would sacrifice the elegance of Davies for the fight of Wilson, tell Roy and Sanga they're next if they don't immediately do something more and hope Sam and Zaf are available bl**dy soon!!
Following on from what I was saying the other day in the above post, Burns' concussion may allow Wilson in for the CC match at Somerset starting on Saturday (remember - all matches start on Sunday apart from those that don't!). Whilst a bit of grit from Wilson will be welcome - he's not particularly elegant but he's a scrapper and I like that -, Burns isn't the batsman I would most want to lose.

Or perhaps Sibley for Burns - in some ways more likely as it's an opener for an opener although would be tough on Wilson as he's been in every CC squad this season but never to do more than carry the drinks.

JimBob - the Radio Lancs guys weren't clear (I find Norcross irritating, almost as bad as that Lizzie creature who sounds as if she belongs on Woman's Hour) but they've given the impression that Davies was off the field for too long y'day to open the batting this morning.

Meanwhile back at the wicket, Lancs tail are still in. 43 for the last wicket so far (fed up with this nearly every game).

Church has confirmed that Davies can't open this morning. He was off the field yesterday ''unwell''. A fluent strokemaker but as much fight as a wet paperbag.

Perhaps the idea is not to take their last wicket so we don't have to bat again for now?

Totally agree. Unlike some - Davies comes to mind just as Tremlett also used to - he doesn't go missing.

I certainly am not doing cartwheels but I'm actually less grumpy with Sanga going for single figures than getting out when well set and not pushing on.
To also be fair to Sanga, he's a dedicated player. There's no suggestion from me that he's here on a glorified family shopping trip unlike a former retired Test batsman we had on the books.

I actually fear the game being all over by the end of tomorrow...positives to take from the match this far....Meaker's return... Burns performance...Negatives...well plenty of those!....The Corporal is due back at the end of the week....having had a significant birthday....shall we say... ...maybe his return will coincide with an upturn in Surrey's fortunes.
Chichester - a disappointing weather forecast from you but I doubt your brother in arms could have done any better.
Your prediction of the game being over today sadly looks like it has a very good chance of being right. 60 odd with 3 down, effectively 4 with Burns unable to bat. Still miles behind and we're going nowhere other than bottom of Div One.

If I'm wrong about Davies not having enough fight in him, now is a good time for him to show it.

Div 2 here we come
Pretty shameful effort. Lancs rabbits this morning have outscored all our 'batsmen'
Not quite sure what the answer is, can't continue with Pillans' bowling, Burke also isn't worth his place at either discipline. We need our 17yo back, but with relegation looming (again), how long before 'the brothers' look elsewhere to further their careers!

84-8(9) now - against a team that came up with us. Jimbob's right - heads must roll. This is embarrassing.

On the money there, Goochie.
Even with the injuries, very concerning. Especially the apparent lack of fight from so many.

Our number 8, forced to open the batting due to an injury is going to carry his bat
Think that sums up Surrey's horrific and baffling start to the season pretty aptly

Obviously poo from the top/middle order, but decent fight from the lower order to support Burns has at least given us a chance providing we bowl and bat well for the rest of the game

Re: SURREY VS LANCASHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Oh my word....just catching up with the news....My prediction of the game being over by the end of the day...completely wide of the mark...in my mind we'd be playing an extra 1/2 hour this evening for Lancs to try and force a win....a finish at 3 .30 or whatever time it was, wasn't on my radar....
I genuinely thought Surrey would do well this season....and finish well above the relegation zone....shows how much I know...I know injuries are playing some part in this...but also a dramatic drop in form for some players...is the gulf between Div 1 & 2 anything to do either it? Lancs seem to be coping pretty well!

Re: SURREY VS LANCASHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Assuming Burns is out, but Ansari's back, what would you guys go for on Saturday? At least with Ansari, the tail won't have to begin at 7. I'd go:
Harinath
Sibley
Sangakarra
Ansari
Roy
Wilson
Foakes (wk)
Curran
Batty
Meaker
Dunn
I'd have Ansari at four to shore up the middle order and resist the temptation to bring him back as an opener.

James - that seems about right in the current circumstances. Do feel though that Roy and Dunn should have no complaints if not picked. Neither has played anywhere near their potential with Roy having every opportunity.
