I think England played really fluid and it was nice to watch but we just didn't take enough chances and got caught out in the end.

Don't.

Anyone who's view isn't "The players played well but were let down by Roy Hodgson and his poor management" is wrong.

Probably a bit too reactive but a lot of the criticism is hindsight. If he puts on Sturridge and England concede, he'd be criticised for not shutting it down.

It wasn't hindsight though. At the time almost everyone knew we needed to take Kane off and put Vardy on to give us a more counter attacking threat, especially at 1-0. Plus Kane had an awful game by his standards.

I'd have rather had Sturridge at halftime but I agree. A lot of it though is highly reactionary. Seen people acting like going defensive to protect a 1-0 lead is something only Roy does.

No issue with going defensive at 1-0.

But issues with poor management with lack of changes when they were needed, having a 25 goal striker taking corners, and only selecting a squad with 1 winger then playing a system with wingers needed.

The World League II - Page 5 Empty Re: The World League II

Post by Azzy Mon Jun 13, 2016 12:18 pm

I thought England played well, on the whole. Several players had their best game in an England shirt - Walker, Rose, Dier, even Rooney (I thought he was excellent).

However, some were atrocious. I'd have taken Sterling off after 20mins - how can he be even worse on the ball than Theo Walcott? Yet he is. Kane was utterly crap. Lallana was useless, again. I thought Wilshere looked excellent.

But it all came down to James flucking Milner. Again. He has 61 caps, which is 62 too many. Only Defoe has more sub appearances than him, which shows we're giving him caps for bugger all reason. And he was solely, entirely, 100% at fault for the goal. I would love to have 5mins with him in a locked room, duff him up enough so he can't play for England ever again.

As much as I love Roy Hodgson, that one substitution has put the final nail in the coffin of his England career. Even if we somehow progress from the group, which I now feel is unlikely, we cannot have an England manager taking 5 strikers to a tournament, playing one isolated up top, another in midfield, then sitting on a 1-0 lead while three pacy, dynamic strikers sit on the bench with their thumbs up their arrises.

Normally I'd agree, but Russia had had zero serious chances and we should have been 5-0 up. Going with another striker and pushing Russia back would have given us a second, perhaps a third, and given the team the start it deserved.

Has anyone seen any reasoning for Kane taking corners? He doesn't even do it for Spurs.

Yeah Kane should not be taking corners. He scored the most goals inside the penalty area this season in the prem and he's taking corners. I'm utterly flabbergasted.

Sterling absolutely destroyed their RB in the first 10 minutes. Stopped trying to do it after that for some reason. He looks shot of confidence but his pace is indispensable in this squad

He played basically the same as every other English winger of the past 20 years in a tournament, run blindly with head down, produce no end product.

What we need is a David Beckham-esque type of player. Someone who has great delivery from the wings but has a footballing brain unlike these speedy wingers.

Bale is an upgrade, Kroos is not & his not an AM drop him back and play a Xmas Tree would be better tbh.

Belgium got taught a harsh lesson in how to play tournament football. Suspect Italy's lack of talent from midfield forward will get found out in the later stages but few teams have the nous Italys back 4 have.
