Wimbledon 2016 - Mens Quarterfinals
First topic message reminder :
Schedule and Live Scores.
All four QFs are intriguing.
Raonic v Querrey - Raonic played a five-setter vs Goffin, while Querrey has been good nick. An upset with Querrey coming through, perhaps?
Federer v Cilic - Federer may have reached his limit. A miracle is needed for him to go through. I keep Pancho at the back of mind, though.
Berdych v Pouille - Big stage for Pouille. Berdych has experience, but Pouille has youth. The Vesely match may help Pouille with a bit of confidence.
MotD - Murray v Tsonga. Tsonga is a dangerous Grass player. Murray's taming of Kyrgios should give him faith in his own ability to get to Final.

Cilic doesn't want to win it. Fed doesn't want too take charge....

That's a good point. Certainly could be a factor why he's so hesitant on crucial points

What a set!! We're all square!! In much the same way that the pen shootout between Italy and Germany was amazing...but not for the quality!!

It isn't great. Bit it's definitely got better as the games gone on. Still, neither taking the bull by the horns. Reliant on other players mistakes...

It's great to see the old dog hanging on in there - the quality is not great, but with each occasion of drama and battle (with occasional flourishes) such as this Federer cements in his legend and Centre Court's affection for him.
It must be said that he is currently forcing a choke from Cilic, who should already have won this.

Shameful BP conversion stats by both in these latter stages.
This will come down to just one crucial error (there should be any number to choose from .... )

On that performance, no-one will be worried about Fed - however that performance is unlikely to be repeated

Cilic has lost this. It's all set up for him to choke it. If the annoying, fawning crowd weren't going nuts at Cilic's errors and cheering for Federer like he was some local journeyman, he might have got over the line. That's one fortunate factor that will always be in Fed's favour till he retires: something the William sisters for example or Djokovic will never get from crowds.

Re: Wimbledon 2016 - Mens Quarterfinals
What a win for Fed. Absolutely amazing fight. My mortgage is safe. But Fed definitely improved as the match went on. Cilic's level stayed the same really. But it still was really a point here or there. That was it really. Cilic didn't choke for my money. He had match points. But was only 1 at a time. And always on Fed's serve.

He sounded second best for all but the final set. Its a little sad for cilic in the end.
No idea who will win wimby now. Maybe fed will just cruise it or maybe thst took s lot out of him

What an absolute legend he is, fantastic performance. I still have Raonic as the favourite, but Fed has never lost a Semi Final at Wimbledon...
His 40th Slam Semi Final, namely the equivalent of making every SF for 10 years. Extraordinary.

I think Murray will walk this tournament. Too many bottlers on tour. Just no one seems to be breaking through who has his head right.

Re: Wimbledon 2016 - Mens Quarterfinals
He wasn't second best for all but final set. And I watched it all from ball 1. Set 1 was on a tie break. Fed had the only break points in that and didn take them. Set 2 to Cilic. Set 3 to Fed. Set 4 - Fed, just. And set 5 Fed. Cilic was winning 2 sets to love but he was never ahead in terms of level of play. It was a point here or there, literally, that made the difference. I think the stats will show the level of performance as being almost the same. It could have gone either way, I grant you but I don't buy this Cilic should have won.

Re: Wimbledon 2016 - Mens Quarterfinals
Lets give Fed some credit- the guy clearly doesn't have his best fitness, slow movement, stiff-- but he fought like a warrior and pressured, pressured, pressured.. then raised his level at the right moment.
Prob too much to ask for him to be able to recover and get the title, and in the big scheme with his massive achievements, this will be forgotten, but given his problems this year- this was a legendary fight back.
I believe Fed now has the most comebacks from two sets down in history? or broke the tie for second..... underated warrior.

Raonic won't di it I think. Unless that took something out of Roger

Well well. The old guy continues to surprise.
Well done Fed.
Cilic brought some of the best we've seen from him since that much-deserved USO title. Just not quite enough today.
(top pro that he is, I don't think we'll hear Marin bemoaning lack of crowd support for the loss He was mostly the better player)

It's deflating not in any part to Roger don't get me wrong
It's just we need new guys. Seeing a 35 year old with no need for more titles squeak through with thx to some nerves compared to a 25 year old who might be the future of tennis, but maybe not now could really hurt the sport in the next couple years
Not his fault of course but deflating for the future. Just fell bad for the guy it must be heartbreaking

Great fight back from Fed but that match confirmed everything I've been saying.
Shanking, slow, stiff. He may get through Raonic but he'll be hammered by Murray - similar to the Olympic final.

Well done Roger. But we see why Cilic has struggled to gain any kind of momentum since his slam win
Fact is. The rest are all still very scared of the Top 4
Might be eating my words in a couple of hours, though
